  • NEW PING G430 Iron Review NOW 10 Yards Longer? well 7-10 yards exactly but still that's bold claim. Have they cheated and just cranked the lofts so strong that the extra distance is now totally non functional, or have they worked their engineering background magic and kept all the great qualities of G425 but now going Longer?

      I tested both JPX 923 hot metal and Ping G430’s and were as even as you can get for me. In sound, feel, and the numbers too. Ended up going with the Ping but could have easily chose the Muzuno. On the High Launch (HL) JPX, did not like how I could see the back bottom of the club on a 7 iron.

    I’m recovering from an ACL injury since July but once I’m OK I’m looking to change my second hand G10 irons for my first ever custom fitted irons. Our pro told me to wait until my knee is fixed and also wait for the G430 because the data he had received was very impressive. Dead right! Great video, first time watcher but I’ve now subscribed. Thank you.

    I didn’t find them to be as loud as you did. The other game improvement irons I tried were much clicker than these. Especially Titleist T350. The sound reminded me of the Mizuno JPX hot metal irons. Basically a mid if the road sounding iron. Not clicky loud but not forged soft quiet either.

    How do they compare to the G425? I’m curious about the differences in lofts, since a PW - 5 set in the G425 it’s more like a 45 - 5 in the G430 so that’s one more club to cover a similar range

    • @Tom-ok2rh
      @Tom-ok2rh Год назад +1

      I just purchased a set and here’s what I did…I ordered the 5-PW and added the 45&50. Since they are stronger than the 425s I consider the 45 as the PW since the PW is 41°. Still gives me about the same range as when I had the 425s with 4-GW.

    I tested these along with my G425's. What I found was that I picked up about 4-5 yards with a 7 iron but the spin and decent angle were down quite a bit. The G430 seven iron was like I choked down a little on my 6 iron. What's the point? Using identical shafts, the feel was only slightly better with the G430. My feeling was there wasn't enough gain in performance to warrant moving to the G430's. I think I would be frustrated with the lack of stopping power on approach shots. What I did test and found to be better, for me, was the Mizuno 923 HL. Got the height, spin, decent angle and distance I was looking for.

    At the higher swing speed - 7i height and descent angle, 6i spin rate (which in fairness is as a result of the 6i loft) and 5.5i carry distance, but with really tight dispersion. Difficult to not like.
    Sadly when you bring the club head speed down, the inevitable happens, spin rates drop alarmingly. A sub 4500 rpm spin rate with a 7i is not good, barely controllable. 6i would not be controllable, but given its loft it is probably the longest iron an average speed golfer should carry in the G430. But even at the slower swing speed, the club was incredibly consistent in carry.
    Overall a very good club, a worthy replacement for the G425.

  • @razerfish

    I think I'd go with the retro specs so you have proper stopping power. I wouldn't tolerate hitting shots at pins and having them roll off the green. I want the ball to hit, hop, then stop.

    • @-bld-

      The G430 7 iron would stop just as well as your 6 iron, because those might be commensurate in lofts. People often forget this.

  • @parmanduke
    @parmanduke Год назад +1

    Well a 41* pw will get you 10 more yards. 7 iron is a 6 iron etc.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Год назад

      The 7 iron is only 1.5 degrees stronger than previous versions so the claim of 7 to 10 yards would have to be something additional to the small loft adjustment.
      Ping have said that to provide sensible gapping distances between irons, they have decided to run individual iron and wedge lofts to make them usable for golfers rather than having jacked 7 iron lofts and then unrealistic loft gaps between irons to get to a 45 deg PW. I guess over time we all have had our perceptions adjusted... I can easily remember that this modern day 7 iron was a previous 5 iron 😊

  • @gregthomas2142
    @gregthomas2142 Год назад

    Thanks for the review. In general would a slower club head speed (senior golfer) benefit from an iron with more loft (better launch & higher spin)? This 7 iron is like a 5 iron of old; at the 5, 4 iron how would a ~80 mph swing (with a 7i) achieve needed height?

    • @zazhou
      @zazhou Год назад

      Most golfers of average or slow swing speed would need to find where they should transition to hybrids for more carry and greater stopping power. It was mentioned in the video that 7 iron is possibly the longest iron to be put in the bag for 80 mpg swing speed. So the decision would be possibly between 6 iron versus 6 hybrid in the bag.

  • @arthvader1
    @arthvader1 Год назад

    The 41 degree PW and addition of 45 seems odd.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Год назад +1

      It's basically to keep honest gapping within the set. Ping don't want people experiencing excessive gapping between irons. Now obviously that is a debatable thing as its mostly surrounding individual swing speeds etc but that is the thought process between the loft gapping and addition iron 👍

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Год назад

      94 mph would include all levels of golfer and their are a lot of senior players which artificially reduces average adult male swing speed. I'd really like to see the category split to take this into account to give golfers a better understanding of where the needle really is.
