As an 80s kid this was my favorite movie. It's the movie that got me into Bruce Lee and martial arts. Today it's also one of my daughter's and my nephews/ nieces favorite movie. To this day I still get chills when Leroy's students make the save at the studio!
I had the biggest crush on Vanity after this movie was released. About a year later, I was flying from Los Angeles to Philly and Vanity came out of first class to use the bathroom. My jaw hit the floor. I asked the stewardess if she could get me an autograph. She came back to me and said, "Vanity would like to see you." She took me up to first class and Vanity had me sit next to her. I wound up sitting next to her for the rest of the flight and I walked off the plane with her. My buddy was picking me up and when he saw the two of us, his jaw hit the floor. Then she gave me a kiss goodbye. Needless to say, I will never forget that day and every detail of it.
The glow used to be on all of my training music tapes.... If I remember correctly sifu Carl Albright let the film team use his mo gwoon for last dragon...
Great Podcast Sifu Alex as always. Thank you for bringing Memories from my teenage years.... The Last Dragon is one of my favourite Martial Arts Movies of all time! I was 12 years old when i saw it in Greek Cinemas and exactly as you say once you see it you CAN NOT FORGET IT!!! I could talk for hours on the Hype, the Music, the Atmosphere, the Cast.... the Marital Arts and the Bruce Lee homage and the list keeps going.... You said it all and congrats for keeping alive the Movie Gems of our Generation! Last some info about the Ernie Reyes Jr "Sidekicks" tv show. The adult actor who starred with Ernie is Gil Gerard who played the Black Rogers on the sci-fi tv show on late seventies! Closing I'm going to agree with another RUclips comment , that you really need to Review "Big Trouble in Little China." If anyone can do it perfectly is you! Greetings from Greece!
You guys rock, thanks for all the content you give us, and especially covering this movie! One of my all time favorites! It should be in the collection of all martial artists!
The Last Dragon was before my time, but I remember it sitting in Blockbuster and though I never saw it until years later, the cover always intrigued me. I fell in love with it once I saw it. In my early martial arts training days, someone I trained with reminded me so much of Bruce Leeroy. Any time I hear about The Last Dragon & Bruce Leeroy I think of him. Great episode!!!
Happy new year Sifu Alex! Thanks for this year of great content. Looking forward seeing more in the future. if I may suggest 1 topic for a future episode, it would be a tribute to your late Sifu, GM Kernspecht, where you could share some stories about his martial art journey and life. Blessings 🙏
Thanks for the episode Alex, last Dragon fan, loved the bruce lee Glow clip, loved watching Ernie Rayes Jnr performance, during that era,No retreat No surrender,Was a good movie to,Being a Bruce Lee fan.
The last time I saw The Last Dragon, I was a kid (I’m not that old now; 27), and I think my Mom or Grandma showed it to us…I should definitely go rewatch it…
This movie is a CERTIFIED HOOD CLASSIC! I grew up in the Bronx in the 80's (When it was really rough) and studied Goju Ryu and this alongside the Cannon Ninja flicks were absolute BANGERS. Any chance you guys do more episodes like this? More specifically American Ninja (Which i saw in the theater at 7 years old! 😂😂😂) to talk about how AWESOME the late great Steve James was?

Yeah, I can't pass up a video with someone talking about the Last Dragon. I saw it first run in the Granby Mall Theater in Norfolk, VA. I think it cost like 3 bucks go get in if you showed up before 5 PM. They showed the same two movies continuously until midnight or so. I can't remember if it was just me and a friend or if 3 or 4 of us went to see it. Sat through another movie to watch it a second time. A couple of friend and I would go there quite often to watch kung fu, karate, or general martial arts films. Saw plenty of Shaw brothers there, a couple of Chiba films, a couple of the Missing in Action Chuck Norris movies, etc. I remember maybe seeing a review of the Last Dragon in Kung Fu Movie magazine before going to see it (or maybe it was Action Movie magazine at that point - it changed titles before it went under - I was allowed to move my remaining subscription time to Inside Kung Fu or Inside Karate ... you can probably figure out which one I picked). Yes. An epic film. And back then ... in that theater for sure... there was plenty of yelling at the screen and general hijinks. Some normals, mostly drunks and homeless getting out of the heat and your varied non-Asian people wearing kung fu gear. It was the 1980's. Just down the mall was Chinatown Imports specializing in jewelry, purses, kung fu stuff, and ... of course .. electronics repairs. The guy there wouldn't sell me a spear until I bought an "Eagle Claw" hand stretcher until I built up the muscle between my thumb and forefinger. His was like the size of a shooter marble. Yeah and epic movie. Still great today. I have on DVD. I have a tee-shirt.
It’s hilarious you mentioned showing this movie to students. At my school I do video essays for the kids to keep it fun. The last dragon was one of them I was so sad that most of the kids didn’t get it. And they ragged on the cgi Smh I was just thinking Jesus the kids these days.
Actually Sifu , Leroy is a Junior, his father calls him that. Sho' Nuff played by Julius Curry got some basis training form Timex real life teacher Roy Van Cliffs. Van Cliffs had to a fight choreographer of The Last Dragon 🐉
Meanwhile a Merry Ho Ho Ho from Europe. I remember and enjoyed the Last Dragon and can't remember the last time I saw it. I can't remember it in detail like Enter The Dragon though. I do remember when watching the VHS, the final fight whereby Bruce Leroy began to glow prominently and Shonuff' s glow started fading I said to a friend that nuff's motor is beginning to fail. Concerning Han having his voice replaced by Keye Luke in E.T.D. that's interesting news for me. If you have more of these facts concerning E.T.D. or with other martial arts movies, maybe you could do a podcast on this!!?? I was surprised that Mikey didn't know this movie and you mentioned watching it with others. Hopefully that has been rectified in the mean time
I haven't seen Never Too Young To Die yet. I googled it, Gene Simmons kinda looked like Tim Curry in the Rocky Horror Picture Show....one of my favorites

Kinda a new follower but loving your videos! So I made this little Bruce Lee tribute video when I was in University a million years ago - please have a look: ruclips.net/video/6DwSzmNti7g/видео.html. I studied film studies in Uni also did my dissertation on Bruce Lee (& star theory). I thought I was a BL super fan....then I came across your channel :)

Also, after Ron Van Clief fought Royce Gracie in the UFC, then later on Taimak was a referee for the UFC for a few fights.

I'm realy happy to have this movie on DVD
Mikey Dean is the resident Limey of the KFG. Nice Dinty Moore swag ya got there Dre.
Great job on the review. Just a side note Keye Luke was also the voice of the old man in ETD.
Thank you! I think I mentioned that fact so many times in other videos I didn’t bother this time!

Whoah I haven't seen this movie since like 1987... Damnit, now I have to go check if they have it on Netflix Japan... see what you started?
Gene Simmons is the scariest thing I’ve ever seen in that movie
Ernie Reyes sr also choreographed some scenes !!!!!
You should interview Taimak. Barry Gordy stiffed him on doing a sequel.
That’s what HE says. Some of us know another story.
I want to know more about what's in that fish tank than whatever was in the suitcase from Pulp Fiction.
is on Netflix i believe
Maybe there's a glow at the end of the final level.
An' maybe it's just paint
An' maybe it ain't.
Hahaha deep cut!
PLEASE do a Bloodsport episode!
working on it!
