      It depends on what you are going to do with them. If I need to convert, I use Inkscape to make it a SVG. If a JPEG or PNG, just import direct into Lightburn. SVG also imports.

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  10 месяцев назад +1

      The Ray 5 will allow you to work offline (not connected to a computer) via the micro SD card, where you can save files to cut/engrave. The Mecpow has limit switches where the Longer 10 Watt does not. However the Longer 20 watt does. Other than that, there is not much difference if looking at the 10 watt models of each.

    Quick question, I purchased this (the 5 watt model). Firstly, I am new to engraving. All I want to do is to put the contents of a text file on a piece of metal (Aluminum or sheet metal, doesnt much matter to me). I am assuming I will be able to do this, but again just want to confirm with someone that has experience with these machines. Thanks in advance

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  Год назад

      Yes, a 5 watt laser will do this fine. However, the metal needs to have a coating, such as anodized, powder coated, or painted. A diode laser will not directly engrave, or etch, aluminum or steel.

    In step 6 I installed the thumb screws then when I put little screws in the laser won’t come down enough to the spacer? Can you program it then leave it to engrave or do you need to watch it work? I have one of these engravers still in the box. On
    Y thing ai am not happy about is a built in bed plate. Does it attach to PC by Bluetooth or only wired?

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  2 года назад

      I don't understand what you mean by a built in bed plate(?) GCODE can be saved to the TF card and projects run from the touch screen. This is especially handy when making repeat projects and does no tie up a computer.
      A few words of caution: Never leave a laser (ANY brand) running unattended. While you don't need to actually watch it, be in the area, close by.
      WIFI and Bluetooth are neat technologies and have their place. However, I NEVER run a project on a laser, 3D printer, or important documents on a printer over wireless. ANY interruption in signal can result in dropped packets and a ruined project. With my lasers, I either run direct connect via USB or from a SD/TF card. This comes from the "School Of Hard Knocks"!

    • @rogersshop

      I don't need to send you the file Roger. When I load the supplied compass file (on the supplied micro SD card) into Lightburn it positions in the middle of the screen. When I run frame in Lightburn it frames the design in the centre perfectly. Make sure focus is set correctly, first. For a setting, try 3,000 mm/min @ 60% power as a start. Make SURE you are set to mm/min and not mm/sec. This makes a huge difference. I only use mm/sec on my CO2 laser.

      Check Y axis cabling, stepper motor, belts, and stepper motor belt sprocket for tightness. If Y axis stepper motor does not run with a Y axis jog, it is either the cabling or a bad stepper motor. If it runs, but axis does not move, check the other items above.
