    LONGER RAY5 is the first engraving machine with a built-in touch screen that easily enables offline use by loading your project onto a micro SD card and then working from the built in touchscreen. This frees up your computer as it does not have to be tethered to the laser while it is working.
    Shown in this video are some of the little mods I have done on the Longer Ray 5 Laser Engraver to better suit what I will be using it for, including a baseboard with a grid, 3D printed mounting feet that allows easy removal, and a custom X axis cable "elevator".

    Had a friend print the feet and the risers. I then downloaded your spoil board grid. Both are excellent and I just wanted to drop a note saying thanks for providing these things! Funny how much better my rotary runs now that it is secured and perfectly aligned….

    I know you don’t plan on using the ray5 for rotary but if I wanted to do so, what’s a simple way to raise the frame to accommodate it? Just uniformly sized blocking?

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  Год назад

      Quart paint cans actually work pretty good. I'm in the process of designing some risers, similar to what I designed for the Ortur LM3 and Jicoda L1 lasers. Just not perfected yet. There will be a video on these soon.

  • @farcow
    @farcow 7 месяцев назад +1

    Where did you get your laser safety glasses? I havent found a good solution for over the glasses, also maybe I missed it... but you must have limit switches to find center?

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  7 месяцев назад +1

      These are what I use: amzn.to/4aVRXgz Perfect for over glasses. To work from Absolute Coordinates, the laser needs to have limit switches in order to identify Home and have a starting reference point. Otherwise, it has no reference to go to center.

    Where can a person find those mounting feet and program to make the spoil board grids ? My wife and I are just starting and also what settings would work best on the 5w longer to etch white tile

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  Год назад +1

      Grid: www.thingiverse.com/thing:4917083 Not exactly for this laser, but it works perfectly. Mounting feet and/or risers: moonshinecrafts.com/product-category/laser-mounts-accessories/ To etch painted, white ceramic tile, you really need to run a burn test as every laser differs a little bit.

    Hi Roger! Love your videos. Where can I find the graph for the spoil board? Also what’s the recommendable settings for cutting plexiglass with the longer ray 5w… or am I going to struggle?

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  Год назад +1

      Link to grid is in the video description. Do NOT cut Plexiglass unless it is specified as acrylic! Regular Acrylic (in colors) is Ok, but some Plexiglass will generate chlorine gas which is not only harmful to humans, but will corrode everything metal on the laser if it is not pure Acrylic.

    • @cwills75
      @cwills75 Год назад +2

      @@rogersshop I have some cast acrylic on order I would like to cut (it's specified as laser cutter compatible from MakerStock). With the 5.5W laser, do you have any recommended speeds or number of passes? The acrylic is paper backed on each side, do I leave that on, or take it off and then put something dark underneath? Thanks!

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  Год назад +2

      @@cwills75 If the acrylic is clear, this is near-impossible with a diode laser, even with a black background, as you will have more melting than a clean cut. When cutting acrylic, I usually use my CO2 laser, and always if clear. You will need to remove the paper from both sides. As a starting point (With a black under piece, like painted aluminum or steel), try 100 mm/min at 90% power and 4 passes for 2mm thick. This is what I use on black acrylic on a 5 watt laser. If the acrylic is clear, or a light color, don't expect a smooth cut as it will melt on the edges.

    Hi Roger, I see you also have a XTool D1. I am in the market for my first laser. I will be using it for all of the things you use it for. Which one do you prefer the best? The XTool or the Longer Ray 5?

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  2 года назад

      This depends on your ended use. The xTool is higher powered, which is handy for cutting. The Longer Ray is less powered, but has a finer, more accurate beam for engraving. I use the xTool for any cutting jobs. I use my others for engraving on wood, ceramic tiles, and coated glass. The Xtool is used for engraving on stainless steel and glass. I use my Ortur for rotary engraving.

    you can help me choose which one I have to buy laser engraver that engraves and is more precise, I don't care about the cut but the engraving between which to choose ATOMSTACK S10 PRO 50W or Atomstack X7 Pro 50W or laser SCULPFUN S10 thanks

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  2 года назад

      I have no experience using the Sculpfun brand, so have no basis to make a comparison. Atomstack, Longer, Ortur, and xTool are all on the same level as far as precision. The Twotrees unit I have, not so much. It has a lot of issues due to poor quality control. The Sainsmart unit I have is very precise, but has a very small work area.
