      Many thanks for watching. Yes a housing is essential for containing the beam and smoke extraction. I have ducted fan extraction on mine.

    That piece you made with the laser turned out gray and I would love to see something like that in the resin that shape was really nice and I still remember the first laser video I've watched in yours and the very first video I watched of yours was the death star that you were working on broke my heart when that thing went to pieces. Finally finished my large pyramid mold with a pine cone inside the original idea of it was going to be just how many different colored layers from all the smaller projects and just left over resin into that mold so got different colors and I got two videos on that project just wish I could have recorded everything on it but I hope you enjoy that as much as I enjoy watching your channel you really are one of my top favorite RUclipsrs

      Many many thanks. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. I still have the Death Star bowl, it is one of my Wife’s favourite pieces.

      @@JimsonMakes when I first seen the thumbnail for the video I thought it had something to do with the oranges and resin and then I looked at the title I was like oh okay and then I can really start to notice the features of the Death Star and then I was like this is so cool and then it shattered and I was like oh no but yeah it's one of my top favorites .

    I have the 5w Longer Ray 5 and I can’t find any tutorials to program it to centre designs also how to cut through wood to make filigree patterns. Also vinyl records cut to make clocks.Please Jim can you show us HOW TO. Not what it can do.

      It is really a case of learning the software rather than the laser, they all work in a similar way and there are some great tutorials on RUclips showing how to frame objects using LightBurn etc. I will hopefully do a basic framing video soon, I just don’t seem to have any spare time at present. If you do a search for diode laser settings there are some great tables showing power and speed for the various powers of laser. With a 5w laser you are better doing 3 or 4 passes when cutting through plywood etc. and air assist helps

      I have since found out that the LaserGRBL program that came with the engraver is missing s lot of it’s coding. I’m now trying to find a compatible free program as I can’t afford Lightburn😕

      @@dawnmason9558 try downloading the latest version of LaserGRBL from their own website. I only have a Mac so LightBurn is really the only option for me.

    Bought one of these a couple weeks ago. The 10w laser module quit working 5 minutes into first print with the longer logo file included. 2 weeks trying to get help from longer . The 5w works ok, but I would like to have a functional 10w laser I paid for.

    • @JimsonMakes

      Mine only came with the 10w laser, the only problem I have found is that the flame detector is too sensitive and causes the laser to cut out. I solved this by placing tape over the sensor. Hopefully they will sort it out quickly for you.

      Hi Jim, not knowing anything about lasers I’d like to ask a question. Being a woodturner like yourself, I’d like to engrave my logo to the bottom of my pieces. The question, how do you engrave on pieces with varying heights, from platters to bowls and from boxes to vases?

    • @JimsonMakes
      @JimsonMakes  Год назад

      @@wayneatacornwoodturning2206 Hi Wayne, you can’t really do it on a machine like this with a fixed focus. You can engrave on level surfaces and refocus for each level but you may need to remove the laser shield to stop it fouling on the workpiece

    How would you compare the ray5 10w to the Xtool D1 pro 10w?

    • @JimsonMakes
      @JimsonMakes  Год назад

      I have only used the 20W XTool, so could not say for certain but the frame and runners are certainly better on the XTool. The Ray5 has a very nice touch screen which is a big advantage if you wish to use it as a stand alone laser. I think it is easier to fit air assist to the XTool.
