  • The DRAK 25 is a powerful weapon in the right hands. However, its heat mechanics and slow projectile velocity means it takes getting used to.

    I'm a big fan of the drak, especially for armor shredding. Not only does rapid armor shredding help your whole team do more damage to the target, I just love watching things get torn to pieces like that. Haven't got any overclocks for it yet but I still like it. That says something.

    An interesting interaction with the Shield Battery Booster overclock is the use of Manual Heat Dump. When you overheat with SBB, after the overheat is finished, your shields will instantly start to recharge. This can be used to your advantage with MHD to recharge your shield on demand and get the bonus from full shields back faster. The overheat is faster than a regular shield recharge even with the armor upgrade that decreases recharge delay, so it will be faster to recharge your shields manually with MHD. This will also allow the use of the armor upgrade that increases shield recharge speed to make the manual shield recharge quicker. Hot Feet can make it easier to not take damage when your shields are down with the speed bonus. I think this use of SBB is more risky but more interactive and less frustrating when you take damage as you can just manually get your shields back.

    Another great DRAK-25 build that's just simple and effective at wave clearing would be Impact Deflection with B,A,B,B,B from the top of the upgrades.
    Great tool to help clear swarms by aiming at the ground and hitting bugs twice with deflection and area damage. You can also pair it up with Zhukov Embedded Detonators to take out bigger targets.

    One of the few times where asking for the Phased Plasma Rifle in the 40 watt range will get you a raised eyebrow from the Quartermaster and,
    "Old school are we lad? Here, try something more modern."

    I use the overclock Thermal Exhaust Feedback together with the mod Hot Feet which means I will be overheated longer but it also means that the speed boost is longer. That's how you turn two "downsides" into upsides. 😁

    For the Plasma Carbine I really dig the Rewiring OverClock that refills ammo during the overheat process.
    For me I use this load out for the Drak 25 Plasma Carbine:
    Tier 1: Stronger Particle Acculturation
    Tier 2: Larger Battery
    Tier 3: Custom Coil Alignment
    Tier 4: Plasma Splash
    Tier 5: Thermal Feedback Loop
    My Thoughts for each tier I picked-
    Tier 1: Only good one for the build, seems like High-Volume Plasma Feed doesn’t effect the amount of ammo regen and Improved Thermals is not needed.
    Tier 2: Larger Battery for longevity but Increased Caliber Rounds isn’t too bad.
    Tier 3: Increased accuracy so it’s a bit easier to shoot. Hot feet is good too if reduce shot spread isn’t need for your build.
    Tier 4: In my experience shooting armored bugs like Guards, Praetorians Oppressors are hard due to there armor and weak spots so Splash damage is for me a good mod for all type of enemies, but the Overcharge PCF and the Destructive Resonance Amp are good if you are aggressive and hit weak spots.
    Tier 5: Increased rate of fire to make it overheat quicker while shooting more. Manual Heat Dump can be good for the build but it’s hard to manage it.
    Overall I know this load out won’t melt bigger enemies but is good for trash and non armor ones. While having a bonus to last long with the ammo regen during overheat. But I won’t lie spend around 1/3 or 1/4 of the mission in the overheat animation isn’t for everybody so take to account about that.
    “Rewiring Mod will refill 31.44 shots given a full overheat of 45 shots, 69.86% of ammunition used. This means a full 45-shot overheat will only consume 13.56 shots.
    Using Manual Heating Dump to overheat early mod will refill around 47-70% of ammunition used. A minimum of 18 shots are needed to reach 50% heat to manually overheat, and consume ~9.5 shots (only refilling 47.2% of the 18 shots used” -DRG Wiki Fandom as of 16/1/22
    The quote above me, I’m not sure if it’s stock and only the Rewiring Mod or a Build with the Rewiring Mod to make it overheat faster.

      @@Davtwan in my experience, you just have to play it very differently… no more short bursts, instead you just lay in and fire until overheat… which is now shortened, and you get a ton of ammo back

    • @robertkalinic335

      If i had that overclock i would definitely try to use it but when i think about if it is better than alternative, there are few situations where i definitely need 3d ammo printer instead of damage and usually when that happens it is mostly just bad luck with nitra.
      I play mostly haz 5 and if i cant kill waves fast enough, they would just start to slowly snowball on me.
      I would rather have used up ammo and called more ammo pods than hundreds of unused rounds while being chased by a horde unable to complete mission. Drak is already sufficient with how much ammo it needs as it is, atleast for mine with aggressive venting.

    Just unlocked this thing, and bloody hell, this thing is a crap ton of fun. It helps with a problem scout generally has, groups mess him up. This thing is the solution to that, to an extent. Not being able to fill swarmers in one shot is beaten out by the fact that you have a pick axe that one shots them instantly anyways.

    Are you seriously recommending shield booster overclock in a guide? What if someone actually follows it without understanding just how punishing it is,among bugs you must avoid friendly fire and hostile terrain. This overclock is BAD for an average player. Thats a dislike from me.

    • @JimJamTheAdmin
      @JimJamTheAdmin 2 года назад +1

      I agree, it's adding a level of micro on top of the micro Scout already does, not for the average player at the end of the day. It is really easy to get caught out without a shield and I don't even run it many games because the risk isn't worth the reward when you have the Nhukovs for serious damage in that class.

    • @colesitosky9033
      @colesitosky9033 2 года назад +2

      i think it builds good habits to use the overclock it teaches you to not overheat your weapon and to manage the damage you take cause if you take out the little damage you take here and there for a bonus it teaches you to play safer and its not like he didnt mention the drawbacks and dangers of the overclock its others fault if they dont listen and its not like greenbeards are going to have this overclock on this weapon to begin with considering you have to have a promoted scout or other dwarf so your half cocked accusation gets a dislike from me

    • @JimJamTheAdmin
      @JimJamTheAdmin 2 года назад +1

      @@colesitosky9033 except you don't need to be taught to not overheat when you can build around using overheat, mag-dumping, then switching weapons. It's only useful if you're super concerned with micro-managing massive burst fire, and the fights you'll get in will not always allow you to even capitalize on feathering it as a burst-fire weapon at high heat. Plus, it's borderline useless on at least two biomes where taking environmental chip damage isn't an assessment of your skill, but a fact of navigation for the vast majority of players. It is almost exclusively for the highest tier of play and even then, other overclocks and weapons do it way better and with less micro.
      So, yes, he adds disclaimers, but he does not emphasize or understand why this is a bad recommendation for any scout, really. One or two promotions doesn't mean you're skilled or not a green beard, that's only like ten hours of playtime, if that. It's a bad recommendation, in my opinion, no matter how you frame it.

      @@colesitosky9033 Too bad not every dwarf looks for other guides on overclocks and anyone can promote a dwarf and get over 10 overclocks in several weeks,shield being one of them. There are greenbeards with overclocks,there are players with silver promotion(s) and yet they still do not know a lot of mechanics and info about damage taken or dealt. Moreover you smell like a leaflover and a woman,thus any arguement you make is invalid.
