    Corrections, clarifications, and updates:
    Cryo minelets can trigger based on proximity:
    01:21 I realized I didn’t explain that cryo minelets are also triggered by bugs coming into their proximity, not just after the 4 second timer. Bullets hitting terrain turn into a minelet in 0.1 seconds, then after 0.8 seconds they are “armed,” meaning that after this point, if a bug gets close enough to them, they go off and apply cold. If they aren’t triggered by a bug, then they will go off on their own after 4 seconds. Obviously, this has strategic implications.
    Cryo grenade and cryo minelets synergy:
    • One other reason that cryo grenades and cryo minelets synergize well is that cryo minelets can’t freeze flying enemies (except in the rare case where they are close to a wall like at 19:16 in the video), but not only can cryo grenades freeze flying enemies, a single grenade can insta-kill any flying enemy in the game except for goo bombers which take two grenades to freeze. So by having both cryo grenades and cryo minelets, you have ways to freeze all types of enemies. Furthermore, by having cryo minelets, you're able to save your cryo grenades for flying enemies or situations when you're overwhelmed, rather than using up your grenades on enemies like praetorians which you can now freeze with cryo minelets instead.
    Boomerang and cryo minelets synergy:
    • You can throw the voltaic stun sweeper at a crowd when you're getting overwhelmed, then blast your zhukovs into the crowd. The stun will hold them in place so that it's really easy to freeze them with cryo minelets, so you can just wait until they freeze and kill them afterwards rather than shooting a ton of bullets up front, so this is an ammo efficient form of crowd control. You can also use conductive bullets for more damage.
    Temperature shock:
    • The “temperature shock” status effect that you get when a frozen enemy gets lit on fire or vice versa is nice for small enemies like grunts because the 200 damage kills most of them, but it is detrimental for larger enemies like praetorians because you’d be better off just keeping them frozen so you can continue to take advantage of the triple damage bonus (i.e., they have way more than 200 health). Overall, intentionally trying to mix and match fire and cryo on a team doesn't seem to be beneficial.
    • As a side note, one cool way to use temperature shock is to use the environment as the heat source. My favorite way to do this with cryo minelets is to kite grunts across a heat vent in glacial strata and lay down my cryo minelets over the vent. This way, grunts will freeze over the vent, then the vent will warm them back up and they'll die from the temperature shock without you having to actually take them out. It's surprisingly effective and kind of balances out the disadvantage to cryo minelets in glacial strata.
    Hopping before grappling:
    • In the video, I briefly mentioned that I typically hop before using my grappling hook. I had made a minute-long section where I explained that more, but I deleted it because it was too much of a digression and just too boring. Still, it is a kind of helpful concept when playing as the scout, so I’ll explain my thinking here on the off chance that anyone’s wondering. I believe it used to be the case that your dwarf would stand still as your grappling hook shot out - even if you were previously walking or running - so that was a big reason to jump before you grapple, but this doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Still, there are a number of other reasons why this can be helpful. For one, it often takes you a moment to find a target within range to grapple to, and you don’t want to be spending that time being vulnerable on the ground while you’re looking around. Plus, if you’re in the air, then you’ll also be a little above the glyphids’ heads so you’ll be less likely to get hit before you escape. For this same reason, it can be helpful to jump off a cliff or over a gap before grappling so that enemies can’t reach you, like I was doing after around 22:50 in the video where I jumped over the drop pod hole a couple times before grappling. In both of these scenarios, I find "high velocity ejection system" to be superior to "overcharged winch" in tier 3 of the grappling hook loadout, because "overcharged winch" takes so long to connect that you'll often land back on the ground by the time it engages. The other benefit of hopping first is that you’ll be a little higher up when you grapple, so you can grapple more parallel to the ground without dragging yourself through enemies, and therefore you don’t have to grapple at as steep of an angle upwards. When you’re kiting, grappling at a steep angle to a spot high up on a wall is potentially problematic because it can result in you to take fall damage from falling farther and also because it’ll take more time for you to get back to the ground to start running again, so bugs will have more time to catch up with you. Nonetheless, you shouldn’t delay grappling in order to hop, so if you just need to escape right away like if there’s an exploder next to you, then just grapple away immediately rather than jumping first or carefully aiming your grappling hook.
    Cryo minelets against oppressors:
    • There is a way to use cryo minelets to freeze and kill oppressors (ruclips.net/video/XaFyHR66eYg/видео.html), but it requires using specific weapon mods for the zhukovs and uses a lot of ammo.
    Brood nexuses' breakable weakpoints:
    • Even when brood nexuses are frozen, you can still shoot them in the eyes and break them for additional damage. That’s because these are “breakable weakpoints” rather than typical weakpoints like praetorians have, which no longer count as weakpoints when praetorians are frozen. According to the wiki, each eye breaks after taking 200 damage (that damage also does damage to the nexus as a whole, though I’m not sure if it gets the 3x frozen damage bonus). When an eye breaks, it does an additional 300 damage to the brood nexus. Given this, it makes sense to shoot brood nexuses in their eyes even when they’re frozen. You can still grapple on top to take the last part of their health, though, because there’s one eye that is visible from on top which you can shoot.
    Cryo minelets vs. swarmer eggs:
    • Cryo minelets are great for the swarmer eggs in Dense Biozone and Fungus Bogs. If you shoot your zhukovs directly at an egg, they bust open the egg releasing a couple of swarmers and also lay down some cryo minelets. The swarmers take a second before they start moving, and this means that the cryo minelets almost always go off in time to kill the swarmers. So when you find a large cluster of these swarmer eggs in a cavern where you'll likely be doing some fighting, a good strategy is to crack them all open preemptively with cryo minelets to take them out before you accidentally release those swarmers during a fight.
    Industrial sabotage missions:
    • Freezing is ineffective against the robots, and they're mostly airborne anyway, so I change my overclock to embedded detonators for these missions. Similarly, I also change my grenades to IFGs. For the Zhukov loadout, then, I change tier 4 from blowthrough rounds to increased ammo since embedded detonators lose so much ammo and now we don't need to lay down minelets. I also change tier 5 from get in get out to conductive bullets because this pairs with the IFGs, but more importantly because we'll almost always be reloading before emptying our entire magazine, so get in get out won't get procced very often. I keep quickfire ejector in tier 2, though, because we'll be reloading very often. As for the primary, DRAK with electricity is nice to pair with conductive bullets, but the majority of your damage from the Zhukovs will be coming from embedded detonators so this doesn't matter so much. I usually stick with the GK2 with AI stability engine for my primary because the weakpoint damage and accuracy at long range are really really effective against the caretaker, allowing you to safely snipe it from far away (you could even take "hollow point bullets" in tier 4 on the GK2 to really max out weakpoint damage for those missions). This is also a good loadout against dreadnoughts.
    Don't shoot the ground:
    • I find that with blowthrough rounds you basically never need to try to shoot the ground in front of bugs to freeze them and that doing so is a waste of ammo. As mentioned in the video, you can shoot the bugs in the front of the pack at a downward angle and create cryo minelets that way. These might end up behind the bugs, but I want to emphasize that this isn't an issue if you kite bugs back and forth by grappling over them because the bugs will turn around and walk over your cryo minelets. Sometimes I even find that it's best to pretend you don't have cryo minelets at all and just use the zhukovs like a normal gun; that way, if you manage to freeze some bugs it's a bonus, but if not then you're still using your zhukovs efficiently just as a gun. This also makes the overclock more fun because you don't have to play a specific way to micromanage it as much as you do with some other overclocks.
    Conductive bullets:
    • Scouts now have more options for proc'ing the electricity status effect, like with the DRAK and the boomerang, so conductive bullets are useful now than before. Playing around with it, though, I still prefer get in get out.
    IFGs and cryo minelets:
    • IFGs can be very helpful when doing the back and forth or circular kiting I described, because it makes it even easier to keep bugs over your cryo minelets so they get frozen rather than walking out of the range of the cryo minelets' effect.

      Lots of good info, 24:47 I don't know if the Ice Storm mod was out when this video was made, but I think Frost Driller + Frost Scout would be the best combination if your driller is rockin' Ice Storm. The driller would have less freezing power with that mod but the Scout would have him covered so he can do high damage more consistently, and that way you would have two unique classes covering more areas instead of two drillers to maximize Ice Storm effectiveness.

    • @MusNothus
      @MusNothus Год назад

      @@Tetsugen_ That's a good idea. I suppose anytime you have two players both using cryo weapons and at least one of them is a driller, it would make sense for one driller to use ice storm.

    I hope everyone enjoys the video! If you haven’t tried out cryo minelets before, I highly recommend giving them a shot, and this video will show you how to get the most out of them. Cryo minelets fit in well with the kiting playstyle of the scout class, they greatly improve the scout’s crowd control abilities, and they allow you to control the behavior of bugs in a really powerful way with the frozen status effect. Yet unlike some other unique overclocks, you don’t have to change your playstyle so much that you’re focusing all your attention on using this overclock. Please let me know if you have any questions or other strategies you’d like to share as well!

    I just love that your minelet guide features blowthrough rounds. It seems like just about every previous build vid for cryo or electro minelets I've seen just ignores it or brushes it off as unimportant, and they only shoot the ground. All ya gotta do is tick the blowthrough round mod and you can both shoot at bugs _and_ the ground! 🤯
    Plus, even if you're not using it with peak efficiency at all times and just shooting at bugs once in a while (blowing through to a far wall that no bugs are near), minelets on the dark walls of Hoxxes still look heccin' cool.

    • @MusNothus
      @MusNothus 3 года назад +10

      Thanks! Yeah when I was thinking about making this video, I was surprised to find that a significant proportion of the few other cryo minelets guides out there weren't using blow through rounds in their build, since to me blow through rounds seem like the single most important weapon mod to use with this overclock, so I figured it would be worthwhile to demonstrate the difference it makes. And I totally agree, the visual effect for cryo minelets looks super cool.

    • @MusNothus
      @MusNothus 3 года назад +8

      It will be really interesting to see how the plasma rifle fits in with existing scout builds. I bet using that heat overclock along with cryo minelets will be great for small enemies like grunts because the temperature shock will be enough to kill them, but bad for larger enemies like praetorians because they have more health and you'd be better off keeping them frozen to keep using the 3x damage bonus.

    I don't know why I keep watching in depth guides for overclocks I don't even actually have, but it's still quite interesting to see how different overclocks can drastically change gameplay choices with the same weapon. I just started playing DRG again for the first time since season 1 so it's been crazy to see how much stuff got added since I left. I still have 7 new weapons left to unlock let alone overclocks

    • @MusNothus
      @MusNothus Год назад +1

      Yeah it's crazy how much has been added, how customizable the loadouts are in DRG, and how drastically different overclocks and loadouts can change your play style. I like cryo minelets because you can still use your zhukovs like normal and could even pretend like you don't have cryo minelets at all, so it doesn't have to change your play style, but it also opens up so many more options for how to play. I think some of the people who don't like cryo minelets might be focusing their play style too much on micromanaging their cryo minelets and trying to use them to freeze everything, which is one of the reasons why I actually prefer taking GK2 with AI Stability Engine along with cryo minelets even though technically Bullets of Mercy would be more synergistic. With AI Stability Engine and cryo minelets I have the flexibility/versatility to either freeze a praetorian with my zhukovs and then kill it or to kill it outright with weakpoint hits from my GK2, depending on what is easiest in that particular situation. That's sort of a totally unrelated rant, but I saw some criticism of cryo minelets recently along those lines, so it was on my mind.

Huge props to Drilling in the Name of for getting his timing just right with burst firing the cryo cannon so he didn't freeze me too quickly, and then rock and stoning just a moment before he was frozen by my cryo minelets. I was going for sort of a Boris from Goldeneye "I am invincible" moment at the end there (ruclips.net/video/fXW02XmBGQw/видео.html) and Drilling in the Name of nailed the timing for that.

Drak : 1, 2, 3, 1/3, 2, Overtuned Particle Accelerator, possibly swapping the OC out for Thermal Exhaust Feedback as I don't own it and couldn't test it; Zhukov 2, 2, 1, any, 2, Gas Recycling. It's just a lot of fun and seems to work very well against dreadnoughts. It's a lot of fun as you are basically permanently in a sped up state and is just a lot of dakka. Great video, keep up the good work.

    • @MusNothus
      @MusNothus 2 года назад

      Thanks! And that loadout does sound fun. I'll have to try it out. I'm guessing with the DRAK built that way you can just unload a ton of DPS at short range (because of the higher spread) until you overheat and then get out of danger with the speed boost? That zhukov loadout sounds fun, too. I could never get over the decreased movement speed with gas recycling, but man that extra direct damage really tears through bugs. I guess with the movement speed bonuses you've added into the loadout that would also allow you to do a ton of DPS with the zhukovs and then escape with the movement speed bonus while reloading. I'll definitely try those out.

    500 hours in the game and I am still learning things. Great Vid! Do you think the M1000 would work with the cryo-minelets? Or does the build necessitate the rapid fire from Deepcore GK2, or potentially the DRAK-25?

    • @MusNothus
      @MusNothus 3 года назад +1

      Thanks! The M1000 does work well with cryo minelets (some people seem to even prefer it over the GK2 for this). I don't use the M1000 much so I am far from an expert on that, but from what I've heard the consensus seems to be that the best M1000 build to use with cryo minelets is to use the hipster overclock and blow-through rounds, which if I'm doing my math right should meet the breakpoint to kill a frozen basic grunt in one non-focused shot. I just unlocked the DRAK-25 and I'm really excited to see how it pairs with stuff. The "thermal exhaust feedback" overclock could be a cool pairing with cryo minelets because you could use the fire damage to heat shock frozen grunts, though having to get the gun over 50% heat in order to inflict fire damage sounds like it might be tedious and impractical.

      @MusNothus 2 года назад

      Thanks! This channel has definitely got some U35 content in the works coming soon...
      I'm going to need to do a lot more playing around with the DRAK, but so far I'm really liking it with cryo minelets. The DRAK may very well end up replacing AI stability engine GK2 as my preferred primary weapon. Right now the build I'm using is 32112 with the impact deflection overclock, though I'm having a hard time choosing between overcharged PCF (chance to electrocute) and plasma splash (converting some damage to AOE). For cryo minelets, at least, I think overcharged PCF is probably best because AOE damage doesn't get the 3x frozen damage bonus and also the game ignores armor on frozen enemies so armor breaking is a little less important. I've been enjoying freezing a group of grunts with cryo minelets, then walking into the middle of the group and shooting the DRAK because then the bouncy projectiles tend to hit other grunts since you're surrounded by them. I thought I would use thermal exhaust feedback (applies heat damage) to temperature shock frozen grunts as a way to create synergy between cryo minelets and the DRAK, but since you only start applying heat damage when you're above 50% on the overheat meter, it feels like I've usually already killed the enemies before I ever get to apply heat. I also thought I'd like using the rewiring mod with the manual heat dump to get back ammo, but so far that's also seemed more tedious than its worth since you have to basically overheat every time you shoot in order to overcome the lower total ammo you get, plus I rarely seem to run out of ammo with the DRAK anyway. The theme of several of the DRAK overclocks for me is that it seems like you have to pay too close of attention to using them a specific way to make them worthwhile, unlike things like cryo minelets or impact deflection where you can still just use the weapon like you would without them if you want. So for now at least, I'm really liking the bouncy projectiles from the impact deflection overclock. I can't tell if they're actually that effective, but they're just so fun. The way the bouncy projectiles look and the way the gun sounds are both just so satisfying.

  • @dddmemaybe
    @dddmemaybe 2 года назад

    My biggest problem with the cryo mine-lets is that they do everything so well I accidentally have no ammo left. Weirdly might be good with aggressive venting drak just so you can brainlessly use just one for all your ammo and not care since they are both so self-sufficient with speed-boost/repeating-cc/low reload time.

    • @MusNothus
      @MusNothus 2 года назад

      Haha yeah you can really blow through a ton of ammo quickly with the zhukovs. That's why I load them out to have as much ammo as possible, and I try to switch to my primary to finish off frozen bugs, but even still you do go through a lot of ammo.

    I'd reckon it'll be easier time to clump the swarm together with Pheromone Canisters, less time kiting and more time and ease to freeze large groups and less ammo with Cryo Minelets, or just outright kill them all with +3 Penetrating Super Blowthrough Rounds from the M1000. • @MusNothus

      You don't get the weakpoint bonus from AI stability engine if the enemy is frozen, but since you get a triple damage bonus from them being frozen, it doesn't matter too much. Bullets of mercy would still let you do more damage to frozen enemies, but I mainly think AI stability engine is useful against the enemies that cryo minelets can't help you with, like mactera and robots.

  • @anonim-8572
    @anonim-8572 3 месяца назад

    While I appreciate technical showcase of the overclock, I can't really see the point of cryo minelets in finale against big swarm
    Most shots hit glyphids in front of the swarm that are soon flown over and are on back of the swarm, and instead of being killed are allowed to unfreeze and fight again, but the distance they are from when frozen makes their inactivity in combat irrelevant
    It's grappling hook and direct damage that do almost all the job when the room is full (and most dangerous), and freezing comes into play only after it's diminished so much it's just mopping up stragglers

    • @MusNothus
      @MusNothus 3 месяца назад

      One thing I think people overlook is the crowd control that you get from cryo minelets. Even if many of the bugs are freezing and unfreezing without me shooting them, that does still freeze them in place and make it much easier for me to avoid taking damage and focus on doing things like taking out acid spitters while the ground melee enemies are frozen, especially if you're in smaller rooms where it's not as easy to kite and herd all the bugs into manageable groups. When you're playing with a team, this also helps out your non-scout teammates who can't just grapple out of danger like you can. But also there are still quite a few bugs that I'm shooting while they're frozen, and even if that's not the majority of the bugs, it's a triple damage boost so it's still a big deal.
      Lastly, the overclock has really minimal downsides - I don't care about the smaller clip size at all and the -1 damage reduction is immediately outweighed when you start hitting any frozen bugs - so it feels like a pure bonus. You could even just use the zhukovs like normal and completely ignore having cryo minelets, and it'd still be an effective weapon that would by chance freeze a few bugs (especially in big swarms where you're pretty much guaranteed to freeze some bugs.. Both embedded detonators and gas recycling give you big bonuses, but they also have really big downsides that pigeonhole you into playing a specific way, unlike cryo minelets which I think is a lot more versatile, and also just fits my playstyle better.
      But yeah, all that being said, it's all really a personal preference thing, so I can totally understand how some people might not find cryo minelets to work for them.

    Is cryo mine + plasma carbine good for heat shock damage bonus?

    • @MusNothus
      @MusNothus 2 года назад

      Yeah that is a good combo, either with aggressive venting or thermal exhaust feedback. Update 36 also turned aggressive venting into a clean overclock, so it's even better now. The main caveat is that since temperature shock only does 200 damage, it's mainly useful against glyphid grunts/slashers/guards, whereas for larger enemies like praetorians you'd be better off keeping them frozen for the 3x damage bonus. The main consideration with these overclocks, though, is just whether it fits with your playstyle. If you check out the most recent video on this channel (ruclips.net/video/VSLOezUn5f8/видео.html) you can see AxisKronos using aggressive venting to temp shock grunts a few times.

    I learned something today too. It is usefull in your problem ridled life? No. Is it fun and will you survive when you mine with your friends "For Rock And Stone!!!"? Hell Yeah!!!

      Haha, that's the spirit! Definitely no real life relevance, but it sure is fun.

    or just get the gas rerouting and only shoot bursts from melee +2 meters range and skip 90% of the techniques here with a faster clear.

      I'll have to give that OC another try. When I've tried it in the past, I really didn't like the movement speed reduction because that's the opposite of how I want to play as scout, and I didn't find it enjoyable to stand up close to bugs and shoot them point blank while playing the class that's supposed to be moving around.

    Bro cryo minlets are nasty. Just put blow through rounds, vampire and berserker and have fun.

      Oh yeah totally, that's a great combo.

    I'll use criominelets only in non solo missions, bcs for me shotgun more fun and more ammo efficient

      That's fair, I should honestly try out the shotgun more

    Step 1: pick Cryo mines
    Step 2: switch the Zhukovs out for the better shotgun

      Haha, to each their own! I like rocketing around the caves with special powder, but I've never gotten to a point where I feel comfortable with the boomstick in combat. I'm very open to suggestions, though; do you have a boomstick build you'd recommend I try?

    Could take out most with some sluge

      @MusNothus 2 года назад

      Haha yeah very true. I actually really like using cryo minelets alongside a sludge driller now, you can freeze the bugs in the sludge so they take corrosive damage even longer.

      Haha, I'm glad the video was so enticing that you had to watch! Or maybe it was more like a car wreck you couldn't look away from... I've been trying to broaden my horizons and use special powder more, and it is super fun, but I think cryo minelets will always feel like home to me.

      @@MusNothus "Or maybe it was more like a car wreck you couldn't look away from" quite the contrary. Your voice made the voice interesting, for some reason.

    well scouts can't make Bunkie's so drillers are better

    • @MusNothus

      Hahaha, very true. I mean, I guess a scout could *eventually* make a bunkie, but it'd take a long long time.

      Haha I know, it's bad. I normally clean my glasses several times a day and hate when they're dirty so I have no idea how they ended up like that.
