@@jbairdexp it wasn’t so much the photograph of the dog more the other photographs around the lens. I see a lot of RUclips channels talk about camera bodies and then little or poor quality images to back up what they are saying. My family have had springers and cockers most of our lives so always good memories with these dogs.
Absolutely beautiful images which show the versatility of this focal length (35mm FF equivalent), which is my favorite. I’m one of those landscape photographers who prefer prime lenses 😊 This one will be going in my camera bag for sure! Thank you for this video.
Depends. It's definitely wide enough, but the lens does have any type of stabilisation nor do any of the DX bodies (as far as I'm aware), so how steady to footage will be is dependant on how steady you can keep the camera.
@@medianopol Yeah I get that. It's less of an issue for me as I shoot video mostly from a tripod. The lack of VR in the DX bodies is a bit of an omission from Nikon IMHO.
I don't know if buy this one or Nikkor 28 f2.8 because is more portable. I want it for Street photo (low light) and vlog too. What do you think maybe is better option for me?
I'm not much of a street photographer but I would imagine that the f/2.8 aperture will be more than suitable, plus it's a smaller lens. The f/1.4 on Viltrox lens is very useful for video though but it comes with penalty of the lens being larger. It also gives a very nice look to your videos with the shallow depth of field. Unfortunately, there isn't a simple answer. You need to decide on a small, compact, f/2.8 lens, or a larger, heavier f/1.4 lens.
Excellent timing...over the last week I have been looking at fast primes, 28mm to be similar to a nifty 50...apparently 42mm is closest to our natural vision and not 50! The 1.4 would swing it for me, the Nikkor 1.4s are out of reach. By the way, your Smallrig grip looks bigger than mine, fits really well onto the Z fc tho doesn't it, superb quality.
Hey Paul, these lenses are a good choice if you don't need or can afford the Nikkor equivalents. The size of the grip is probably just the camera angle it was shot from.... you're right though, great item for the Z fc :-)
How does your 24/1.8 perform when mounted on an APS-C body like the Z fc? Couldn't you just use that lens and save the money on the 23/1.4? It should yield very similar results, right?
They perform the pretty well exactly the same. I discuss the option of only buying the 24mm f/1.8 for use on both crop and full frame bodies in this video around 16:10 :-)
@@jbairdexp Ah right, must have skipped this part, my bad! I need to buy a Viltrox lens for my Z50 right now aswell and wondering whether to go for the 23/1.4 and then maybe sell in the future or pay a little more and go straight for the FF one and then if I ever switch to a full frame camera (once they release one with a flippy screen) I will already have one lens at hand.
No worries, we've all done it. It's a tough choice to be honest. The 24 is ever so slightly bigger and heavier, but if you are thinking of going full frame it might make sense. However the 23 will still work on full frame (just in DX mode). 😁
@@jbairdexp Yes, I know it will but you do lose quite a bit of resolution in DX mode. Like you said, it's a tough call, I don't mind the size too much, just a matter of whether the extra cost of the 24 is worth it in the long run. 🤔
Nice vid mate! enjoyed that!! portraits ay!! haha good job! i think they are amazing value and struggle to see why more don't grab them.. why they cany sort lens hood out tho! wtf.. Also, am I right in thinking you put a full-frame lens on a crop and didn't have a crop factor on it tho??
Cheers Buddy, I hope people are enjoying your 85mm video as well. We seem to share similar views on Viltrox lenses. :-) So the 24mm full frame lens gives almost the same field of view when put on a crop camera because of the crop factor. So both are around 35mm in full frame terms when on a crop body. HEnce the reason if you have both crop and full frame, getting the 24mm full frame lens to use on both might be the better option if you don't mind the increase in weight and size. Tell you what though mate, you'll need to get me out with my Z fc and 23mm for a bit of street photography soon. :-)
Thanks for this review. Actually I bought Z50 and looking for prime lens for this camera. Could I ask you did your purchase this lens directly from their website ? Im wonder if I have to pay something for delivering to UK. Thank you.
Hi, I got mine direct. You will need to pay for shipping, and like any import you'll need to check if you need to pay for import duties. You can get it from Amazon UK though, but it's a little more expensive (but you avoid international shipping and duties.)
Dieses Teil macht den Nahmen " Schnäppchen " alle Ehre . Sie sollten bei den Chinesen mal in die Lehre gehen. Auch das 56er und das 13ner Viltrox sind das Geld mehr wie wert.
Julian, I own the Z50 and was looking to purchase a fast prime lens. This lens seems to fit the bill. My only concern it doesn't have the VR capability. Did you find any issues with no VR. Also did you do any low light video's? Any issue with AF in low light?
Hi, thanks for watching. No issues for me on not having any VR, but everyone's requirements are slightly different, so what works for the types of shot I take might not work for you. No problems with the AF in low light though....well, it's not any worse than any other lens I've used on the Z fc. :-)
Yes, lens will work just fine on full frame Nikon Z cameras. The camera will switch into DX (crop mode) though. If you have both full frame and crop sensor cameras, you might be better of with the full frame 24mm version of this lens though - ruclips.net/video/uPH3HLea_CI/видео.html
Probably great for Street photography. Though I have Nikon DSLRs the only mirrorless cameras I have are the Lumix GX7 and GX9 (I'm a Magpie 😂) However the Lumix 15mm f1.7 (30mm on Full frame) is brilliant for street but you got some lovely shots there Julian 👍
I bought the Z fc because of its capabilities, not it's styling. See my review - ruclips.net/video/PuoWRkGFAvI/видео.html Hope you found the rest of this video useful.

Hi Julian, another informative and balanced review. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it Steve, thanks for watching! :-)
A good review about this lens. Very interresting. Thanks
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! :-)
Thanks. A very appealing lens that's more appealing after this. Thank you.

Another informative video Julian.
Like the other video a good lens for the price.
Great images as usual.
All the best mate.
Cheers Tim, thanks for watching both videos. Always nice to read a comment from yourself, :-)

I really like this lens! Quality build and quality optics. It does great for photographing documents as well.
Thanks for watching! :-)
Nice springer, you should have used these images in your review of the camera body.
Thanks. Pet photography isn't my strong point so I tend to not include it in my reviews but I will include a few shots of Monty in my Z8 review. :-)

Because the flippy out screen on the Z 50 goes flips down which I consider fairly useless for my needs. :-)
