It’s a tribute to the miners I think, there was lots killed. my dad,s friend was buried alive when the roof came in on them my dad ran one way and his friend went other. They had nearly dug him out when more muck fell.
The sculpture was specially commissioned as part of the Sustrans National Cycle Route, which runs through the Park
