  • This is a very unique product that I finally got a chance to play, here are my thoughts. EVERY ACOUSTIC DRUMMER should take a hard look at this product. It lets you play at 20% volume, and takes just a minute to put them on all your drums. You don't have to remove your acoustic heads, and the mesh bounciness is tune-able. It's an overall great system that I can recomend to anyone.

thanks for sharing! I've been rocking an rtom+zildjian l80 low volume cymbal setup for two months and it's changed my life...
I live in an apartment in a city so I was thinking of electronic drums or getting the black holes and went for the black holes paired with the zildjian l80 low volume cymbals and I'm so glad I went for this setup. I can now practice in my apartment for hours without infuriating all my neighbors and I still have fun playing. It's also really nice to be able to play a click or music out of my laptop and play to it at a reasonable volume.
I was worried about not being able to hear full-volume samples like my old alesis edrums, but I got used to the low volume and now love it.
On weekends and daytimes when I can go full blast on the kit, it takes me less than 5 minutes to swap out cymbals and the pads and play my drums normally.
Happy I chose this setup over electronic drums for now.

definitely louder than edrums. The cymbals make sound that sounds like really soft cymbals, and the heads make sound that sound like a really soft verson of my drums. it's about the same volume as if you were playing acoustic drums and cymbals with brushes

Hey Justin....Very informative video on the RTom Black hole practice mesh pads. I've been searching and viewing many reviews and appears most are leaning towards Rtom Black Holes. Finally viewing your video on this product confirms my decision which I feel was well thought out. Your reviews have always helped tremendously in researching towards purchasing drum products and how-to record drum videos are outstanding. Thanks for these exceptionally great reviews! And BTW you can play some drums!

Recently got these over an electric kit for apartment practice, and I'm very satisfied so far. You can get further volume reduction by muting the drum head with some cloth (hand towels works well) and by putting rubber practice tips on your sticks. It's at the point where my drum kit is quieter than my TV.
Another thing I noticed using these: sometimes the rim of the RTOM pad will resonate against the rim of the drum it's on, which can create an undesirable buzzing-sort of noise every time you hit the pad. I got around this by laying down 2-3 socks around the perimeter of each rim and sandwiching them between the pad and the drum.

Can you do a video on which e drum set has the best practice features?
I know Yamaha e drums have this feature whereby the drums will only sound if it is being played in time. Would love to hear your opinion on which e drum has the best practice features.

I have rtom black hole pad on my snare drum. My way is only die cast hoop on snare stand and then i put rtom pad. It's more silence. Please check this pad with trigger rt 10. I'm wondering how is it work. Great Channel Justin. Keep work :)

i went to sweet water acouple weeks ago ( i live like 15ish minutes away) and played that same sonor kit with the black holes on it, and my drumset was the tama imperialstar to the left with silentstrokes and gen 16 and l80 (i use both acousticaly bc they are both quite) and i have the same color just an extra floor tom lol

Hey Justin , I would love to hear a complete review of the RTOM snap on mesh heads along with the RTOM snap on triggers. I'm sure there are many of us who would like to do an A2E conversation without having to take apart their whole kit when they get the itch to go back to acoustic only. I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for your time and really appreciate your channel

What do you think the best way to trigger/pickup the RTOM set up?

  • @deathcheatersguild4266
    @deathcheatersguild4266 5 лет назад +1

The RTOM Black Hole Practice System 🥁 is an excellent concept 🤘🏻 and I don't know why anyone has thought of this before. BUT the Bass Drum Mesh Head needs to be redesigned. Having it go inside the Bass Drum Hoop would cause it to function better and be more secure and the bonus would be that you wouldn't have to take your Bass Drum Pedal off the hoop, which is totally stupid 🙅🏻‍♂️. Also there is no 26" Bass Drum size 👎🏻. I would also like to see for the Snare and Floor Tom have larger Sound Patch proportional to the drums larger diameter sizes. From a Creative Director and Drummer :) ✌🏻

I’m moving from an electronic Roland kit to an acoustic set.
...I’d love your thoughts on a kit set up - am getting a Mapex Saturn V 4-piece kit (with one floor Tom) and a 14x5.5 Ludwig steel snare.
Here in Australia, RTOMs became available around June 2017, and it’ll cost me around Au$600-ish to get RTOMs for all the shells - ridiculously overpriced - so I might consider getting them from the USA instead.
The idea is to pair it all with Tama hardware and either Quiet Tone or L80 cymbals - hook it all up to microphones + a mixer and practice with headphones.
So far, the RTOM and Sabian Quiet Tone combo look promising - especially since I want the actual sound of the shells and cymbals albeit at a reduced volume - would love your thoughts, please.
    Thanks in advance!

Does it sounds good for an acoustic concert? With an acoustic guitar?

    Hey Justin how are you??
Im writting this comment cause i a have a little issue. I live in a rental apartment, so i wont make the soundproof room or a practice room for my kit, cause its a rental space, any time they could ask me to leave and would have to do it. So i found this pads and the Remo Silentstrokes and im debating which one its better for this situation.
For my own good i looke for an apartment that was in the 1st floor, so they are not angry neighbors complaining about the noise that my feet make when playing, and doesnt have the low freq also bothering them; so thats a plus for me, but as said before, i have no "home studio" or "soundproof room" so i wanted to know, without all the mics and stuff you record your videos, how do they sound to your ears, and which one its better?? Remo o RTOM??
Thanks for your time and help!!!

I heard these work great - except some had problems with the bass drum head moving around - can anybody here who owns this give honest feedback - I play a lot of double bass so wondering if I should go for the snare and toms and find a different bass drum option. Appreciate it!

I wonder if it's a single or two-ply mesh? If they're single, then I assume they have a trampoline-like bounce.

Nothing! But for 250$ (CAD) you get get a pack lf Sabian quiet tone cymbals! A hi-hat, crash and ride! They sound good too! And are cheaper than the Zildjian L80
