yeah, like the go AI that beats human, that learns how to play with itself, it's a bit cumbersome to setup if you don't have access to the game's backend, which would run a lot faster without the graphical bits
@@imblackmagic1209 i've never understood why games like this (where AI is incredibly important) never utilise AI machine learning. There's got to be technical limitations, or someone would've done it already, right?
@@nejcmali6246 yea it’s a pain to do for complicated games like this. There is one in the game Starcraft 2 but it took a huge investment to get it working
An interesting thing - I started a game with 90% land and it had weird effects. 1st - the number of luxuries and strategic resources didn't increase and so there were many regions with no resource of any kind. Second, the number of territories to get expansionist stars was absurdly high. Third, due to the distance and lack of sea routes together trade was impossibly expensive. Fourth, killing off a rival Civ early is nearly impossible as there are so many positions for them to expand to. And do I don't recommend such a crazy high percentage of land - city cap and everything else in the game really hates being that far out of balance. I had hoped if the A.I. had plenty of land that they would be more competitive without absurd difficulty levels placed on the game. They did a bit better early on but the slog this game would be I wasn't quite up for continuing for long 😆
thank you for the guide. I've played a lot of civ games and still opted for the tutorials in humankind, but they are quite overwhelming sometimes and sometimes not providing enough info so i've been quite confused lol... didn't even realise that you can break out the "upgraded" unit
Independent cities are defensless for several turns. Use one scout for a city for free. Combine it with Achaemenid Persia to get +2 city limit. Use Persian district to generate influ to attach teritorries to those new cities :) Enjoy having 40%-66% more cities than anybody else at the start of classical era. Quickly earn 7 starts to get Khmers and make those cities powerhouses.
Great tip. I was struggling to keep pace with the AI land grab while they seemingly dump out units. Saw this comment and posted a scout next to a soon to be created peaceful independent. Now it seems pretty easy if you don’t have to spend the influence on city creation.

Thank you so much. Even the Auto-Explore tip gave me such an edge compared to how I usually do. I could defeat my neighbours purely with mercenaries my scouts found thanks to that
This is absolutely game changing for me because I separate my troops then move like a wave with them slightly spread out from each other so knowing this I could get a couple units quicker thanks bud
would you suggest setting up early on outpost adjacent to eachother (first city) ? .. also should it be important to make outpost in those territories with resources or should importance be put on finding a good spot of production&food ?
Stringing them together will be cheaper. So generally yes, make them connected. It’ll help with your social and religious influence spread too. Generally you should grab them all! Don’t worry if the outpost isn’t perfect, or has sub standard yields, you can always attach it to another one later so they share their resources.

Really enjoying the game but does anyone know how ranged combat works? I have had rifle units unable to hit enemies two sections away and ship support with a range of 4 unable to attack anymore than one space inland. What am I missing?
@@neilm838 Yes most likely if its not terrain its your own units blocking. If its not a weapon that can shoot over at an angle like for example bows(not crossbow) and bombards shooting with an arc to their projectiles then most likely it wont be able to be fired through your own units.
So I had a question about aircraft. Every time I make a squadron of planes the upkeep multiplies by 100. So when I have 8 lightning Jets for an upkeep of 90 each adding up to 7200. The upkeep will end up 72,000 instead and kills my money.
I've been in a single battle for about 5 turns where I can't see any enemies or move my units any further. At first I thought maybe they were just hiding and I needed to find the AI, but I've literally tried moving units to every available spot. Is this a bug? Also in a few other battles during the same war I kill more units and lose less strength, but halfway through the battle the AI calls it off and it says I was defeated lol. Defeated me by losing units and running away.
the second one you probably lost because they defended their flag. if you are the attacker and two turns pass without you controlling their flag, you are considered defeated even if they lost more units
Very cool! Enjoying the game so far, absolutely destroyed my first game. Keen to play it on a higher difficulty. 100% chance of World Congress in a future expansion. Any tips on merging cities? When does it make sense to merge them?
Brilliant! Ah generally it’s easier to do it very quickly while your pop and infrastructure is low (cheaper that way), or much later when you have hopefully accumulated a lot of gold or influence. It’s certainly beneficial to merge them. More opportunities to build more emblematic districts above all else. But also shared production, resources, etc
I've been playing since release but holy molly, I just found out Hiring "Barbarian" unit :D and wonderous effect thanks man :D also can you make a video where if you can any possible manner explain how to increase war support? there is a case I am playing with my friend and he plays very peacefully apart from taking a lot of territories. so how Can I increase war support to declare formal war? (can't make demands cuz there are none to do so :D )
Yes! But just quickly so you can beat your friend, make sure you push grievances in the diplomacy screen. Make demands! Also strengthen your religion and civics so you can push extra grievances! I’ll make a video on it, probably next week :)
The AI just attacks you when defending because you have ranged superiority, and they know that standing still while taking arrows Will take a toll on them so they rush.
I've noticed that Auto Explore is OP in Neo, but After that it breaks, and they just go back and forth between two tiles, doing nothing forever. It's Maddening.
Using units to transfer population between cities feels super-yucky to me. Why? 1) It's a level of micromanagement I don't want to get involved in. 2) The industry spent to build the unit is lost. If the developers feel that there needs to be "transfer population" mechanic, they'll put one in that's easier to use and more obvious. I hope they do so as that seems like a useful tool and is somewhat historical. Maybe if you've picked a bunch of communal or authoritarian Civics you can then click a button on the city screen to transfer population to another city. What do you think?
Yeah I think it’s more of a side benefit than a feature. I think you’re right, if they intended for forced migration to be in the game there should be a man easier way!
Valid point. I wouldn't ever create a unit just to go disband it in some other city for exactly the reason you describe. That said, after the initial "land rush", a game typically reaches a point where there isn't that much exploring to do for a while, and the starter Scouts become a little superfluous. I usually absorb most of them into the small new growing cities. On the other hand, they also don't cost any upkeep. So there's also no downside to just putting them to sleep on a coastline somewhere until many turns later when tech advancement lets them cross Ocean risk-free.
Sometimes I see my boats stuck in the shallow waters, when I'm using auto-explore. Is it because it can't explore anymore, otherwise it will be destroyed by the high seas ( or it thinks it will be destroyed) or is it a small bugg?
most boats cant leave coastal waters without being destroyed.. so they wont leave the coastline.... until you get further in research and gain immunity to being destroyed at sea.
