Watching this on National Quilt Day. Didn’t get to quilt today, but did the next best thing and caught up on all my favorite quilt and fabric designers on RUclips. I did get my 2nd vaccine shot today, as well as brought other family members to get theirs and did this with more than one trip! Earlier today the wait was over 1 hour and at the end of the day, I was the only car with no wait! Thank you for a great podcast 🪡🧵
Love the new fabric line! I can't wait to get my hands on it for my shop (and myself!). Thank you for talking about longarm quilting. I am a longarm quilter and I encourage everyone to look around for what you can afford, but remember that the fees that we charge not only include (in my case) batting and thread, but the time that it takes to quilt your top, trimming your top, maybe ironing if necessary, cost of use of the longarm machine (electricity, maintenance, etc.), return shipping, and the tlc we put into finishing your beautiful quilts. Love this podcast....thank you for these fun fireside chats!
I love your podcasts. It’s so nice to have a bit of positivity in these dark days. I’ve just sat and watched this whilst pinning my rainbow postage stamp scrappy quilt. That new fabric range is so pretty. Keep up the good work. It’s very much appreciated here in the Spring sunshine in Birmingham, England. ❤️
I’m a new quilter as I begin my retirement from working and I am “enjoying the journey”. I listen to the podcast and watch the tutorials to learn. Thanks for the effort all 3 of you put into sharing quality information that makes a difference for a beginner! Great job Sherri, Chelsi, and Billy!
That was the best question/ in the world!! Comparison IS the thief of joy! As a brand new quilter at the age of 71, I tell myself this all the time. Thank you so much for reminding everyone of this! Xoxo
A brand new quilter at 71 years young GREAT! When I asked a neighbour to join a knitting group her reply, I'm too old for that, she's 58. The group never happened as there was no take up.
Such a informative podcast!! It is hard not to compare yourself to others. My thoughts are that people that are coming to my home will never noticed if I didn’t have a scant 1/4 seam or messed up on my flying geese! I love ❤️ your new fabric line!!! I can’t wait until I can make something with it!! I love the big colorful dots, great for binding too!!
Chelsi I think it is totally amazing how much you get done. You are a homeschool Mom which is a full time job added to all the other jobs in your home. I just ordered your pattern Community as it is just darling. I love this new fabric line with the addition of purple.
I enjoy your podcast on RUclips but it frustrates me when you have things in the table that you don't hold up for the camera! I realize you are playing to a "listening" audience but there are a few of us watching. I was really frustrated a couple weeks ago when you had several books on the table which you picked up and mentioned my name but never showed the front to the camera - like we aren't there. I know you added links but that's not the same. I just ask you remember some of us are viewing and want to see what's on the table. Today it was your fabric. It's laying there but you didn't show it!!!
I quilt with a friend and she can make three quilts to my one!! But I go my own pace and love my journey. Please don’t make it a race. Enjoy your time and your journey!
I've been watching over the last few days. I'm so glad that I came back to finish and heard the last "question. Your respondence was just what I needed.
Sherri, Chelsi and Billie ---another great and interesting episode. Thanks for all of your insight. Since we quilters have SO many scraps and very small scraps, tell us what we can do with them. I'm talking about scraps less than an inch. I'm sure others would be interested in your ideas. You know,,, it's hard for quilters to throw fabric away.... Love the new fabric line.
I love you two! I look forward to your podcast (I watch on RUclips). It’s like I get to visit with some favorite friends! Congrats on the new collection, it look fantastic!
Another great podcast with lots of tips and information. I love all the positivity in all that you do. I love hearing Billy chime in with his thoughts 💭 but we would love to SEE Billy at least once in front of the camera 📷 👏🏻👏🏻😍
What a GREAT episode! I found myself relating to so much of what you shared in this one. i have been quilting for 30 years, but always pieced by hand. Last year I started Moda Blockheads 3. I was determined to learn to machine piece. OMG I found myself saying .... Why would anyone do this? It is not fun! My points didn't match and my seam allowances were awful. I took it on to LEARN, so it wasn't perfect. When I got frustrated I'd go back to another hand piecing project to center me. I'm so much better than I was when I started that project. I appreciated your description of beginner, advanced beginner, etc... I got a good machine this year and that has really helped with my seam allowances and machine piecing. I am loving machine piecing now. Had I stopped when I got frustrated last year I would have been stuck only hand piecing and doing a quilt a year. I can't wait to see what I learn this coming year. I'm taking your Gelato Remix class at Garden of Quilts. I can't wait!!! Thanks for this podcast. I love it! You two are so great together.
I feel like there aren't enough updated purples out there in collections, so I was thrilled to see this collection pop up. I have preordered a layer cake, but I'll be ordering yardage of the purples for sure.
I love this podcast! The questions and answers were so interesting. Wisdom and support from the three of you is always good. Keep it coming. Love the new fabric line Sincerely yours!
I love your podcast to bits!! You two are calm, precious, talented and so much fun to watch! I wish you would consider having your table being a long table with you both on same side lookin straight at camera. I don't know why, but I think it would be better.
Always look forward to you podcasts:-). Inspiring and have learned so much from the both of you. Love your new fabric collection as well and look forward to seeing new quilts you've made up with this collection.
Love listening to you ladies..as a new quilter I have learned much from your podcasts ...thank you for sharing all of your knowledge...and I love the quilt ladder in the background...was that purchased or did someone make that....I have volunteered my husband to make me one🤣💞💞
I think as a beginner I think learning how to sew straight, using a slotted ruler, 1/4” guide and just picking a easy pattern is best and first a baby quilt or place mat. As far as taking a quilt to be quilted, I have never find that and quilt on my own home machine. I roll up the quilts and do by section and for larger quilts I make smaller quilts and join them together and use the joining method like quilt as you go.
Thanks for your podcasts...love the question and answer segment. I’m learning so much! What is the rule for sewing a 1/4 inch seam? Is it 1/4 inch exactly or a scant 1/4 inch? Are patterns written to accommodate both 1/4 inch seam methods? When I took quilting lessons I was instructed to sew scant to account for thread width.
Hi! I always look forward to new episodes and love the conversations that you enjoy as a family! Have you ever used the "quilt as you go" method? My sewing machine has a small harp or throat. I prefer to quilt it myself, but it's difficult to maneuver a whole quilt through the throat. Do you have any tips for quilting each block individually before putting the whole quilt together? I would love to hear your answer on an upcoming episode! Thanks so much for your help. :)
In my opinion, beginning needs to be squares and rectangles. I'm definitely a beginner and the Feb BOM about did me in. I'm to stubborn to stop mid-project so I had decided when I finished Feb I was done. Then I finally finished it (3 weeks later) I decided if I can finish this i can finish anything. I did the March BOM in one day - after cutting. Hats not for the faint of heart. 🤩
Funny about talking "chicken" today, since I'm making a Chicken Quilt while listening. AKA The PTSD Quilt because I'm sure to have nightmares about it. Pattern was printed wrong, found out after cutting it, downloaded a newer/corrected version, had to order $50 more fabric to cut new pieces, the smaller panels on the large panel are printed wrong, not square, then had to rip out all the pieces (except HST's, whew) because I sewed them wrong, then scorched some pieces, then iron water spilled on about a dozen pieces more, which stained, then a thread tension accident, so had to rip out those dozen seams, too. And on and on. Oh, yeah, I'm learning a lot! 😉
My grandmother would have said “no laughing matter, no matter you laugh” 😝😀 Not that it’s anything to laugh about, it sounds like you have a good attitude! It can be so frustrating when one thing is wonky; it seems like it just keeps getting wonkyerrrrr😬🤯. I’m sure you will be happy with the finished project ❤️😀
My first quilt was a baby quilt - all hand pieced. My second quilt was a Double Wedding Ring quilt. About 8 or 9 years ago. I started a Double Wedding Ring for my son and his wife for their wedding gift, that was 5 years ago. I still cannot get that quilt to go together at all. IT IS DRIVING ME NUTS!! I have given up on it and I am going to make another quilt for them. The Double Wedding Ring, all the rows are made and just need to be put together. Every time I look at the rows and the two rows that I have together, I just want to cry. What would you recommend for this huge daunting project?
I wish there was a way to connect with a new quilter. I would love to share fabric with a new quilter. I know how much I would have loved that when I first started.
Absolutely. Over the past 30 plus years I collected fabric and didn’t have time to really sew. Now in my 60’s I’m trying to sew my mountain of collection while I’m able. None of my children sew.
I didn’t read this right, you aren’t a new quilter looking to learn how to quilt, you’re looking for new quilters to share your fabric…………sooo sorry! That is very generous of you!
I have enjoyed your podcasts.... I do have a question about a word that you use to describe.. maybe color... What do you mean when you say low volume? I have always heard; neutral, dark, light, bright, values and such.. help me out here. I should probably know this, but wondered if it is a term used in your fabric design business. I love the quilting world where everyone feels welcome and IS welcome. I appreciate all that you are doing to help the rest of us along. Keep it up!
I'm interested in purchasing the new fabric, especially the reds....where do I purchase and can I just purchase the red fabrics? I'm working on a red & white quilt. Thanks! Love the new fabric!!!
Great watch today with a lot of information you two talk about. I am a new quilter and people are alway talking about using your stash but sometimes new quilters don’t have much of a stash yet to use. Any suggestions on how one can build a stash that can be used for a quilt (i e size of piece of fabric)? Any suggestions would help. Thank you.
Would you use Christmas mini charms too if you organized all of them by color to make a quilt? I’m wondering if Christmas mixed in with other prints would look ok or not?
I hope the lady who is trying to get her sister- in- law to quilt reads this-tell her the only way to guarantee failure is by not trying. I'm self taught and don't know anyone living within a 50 mile radius of me who quilts. I once took my courage in both hands and travelled to a small guild quite along way from my home. The experience was horrible. I wasn't welcome. Decided to go again that was worse. On taking fabric from my bag a lady said put that thing away it's giving me a headache. I left. When I got home I packed up my quilting fabric went online found a charity in the UK and post it to them. I felt discouraged. Then I realised I was doing it for me. I live in a small country off of the coast of Europe with only 1 online quilt shop I couldn't afford the prices. 2 months after what happened on receiving my pay cheque went online and found a very good shop in the USA who have great sales and started quilting again. Sherri and Chelsi I'm glad you keep it real I switch off when people pretend they have PERFECT LIVES.
I started quilting 3.5 years ago, at the age of 60. None of my relatives or friends quilt, and I'm not a fan of group lessons (maybe because I was a teacher for 24 years, lol), so I read a book on quilting basics and watched lots of You Tube videos, to learn how to quilt. I made 3 highly flawed baby quilts (donated them), then foolishly made a king sized quilt (do you have any idea how long it takes to hand quilt one of those?- me neither- I lost track- but it was waaay too long- I've switched to throw sized quilts). I made lots of mistakes along the way, but through it all, You Tube quilters have been my teachers. The other day my husband sincerely commented that he could see my quilting skills getting better with every quilt. Congratulations to you for not giving up. Forget those mean quilt guild members. A good teacher/mentor would have praised your efforts and current accomplishments and supportively encouraged you to further develop your skills. Sherri and Chelsi are good teachers.
Carol, the funny thing, is even though I'm married I'm a loner. My hub was stunned when I said I was going. 18,months after this happened I was out walking the beach when a woman approached me and asked me would I like to come to the guild as they were looking for new members. You must be joking, I replied as I walked away. I think Sherri, Donna Jordan, and Kimberly of FQS has an encouraging way of teaching. It was finding a well written, pattern ,on the net, with loads of photos, that made me feel I could quilt. The pattern was by Melissa Corry and it was free.
It’s tough in the UK finding quilting fabrics. I’ve never been to a guild or group for exactly the experience you had. I think the comment about your fabric was really rude - don’t be put off of quilting. The way people use different fabrics and designs makes it fun.
Hi, I am relatively new to quilting. I'm 21, and constantly on a budget. I was wondering what to do with animal themed fabric? I have a bunch, but am not entirely sure how to make a quilt out of it. Thank you- Savannah
When my kids were young I had someone tell me that ‘Comparison sets someone up to fail.’ From that point on I made a point to never compare my kids grades or ability.

You can also tie your quilts if you don’t want to quilt it yourself. Tied quilts with puffy wool batting have incredible texture!

Love your podcast videos! Having Billy chime in is a great asset! The new collection is beautiful...looking forward to it.
I just adore Billy!! He is too funny... I am definetly getting some of your new line .. I LOVE it!! You guys are the best.. as always
Billy is so right. I just enjoy making something although I.know that I'm not doing it perfectly.
Thanks to all three of you for your positivity.
Once again ladies, thank you. I "listened" on You Tube while hand sewing binding to the back of a baby quilt.
I quilt with a friend and she can make three quilts to my one!! But I go my own pace and love my journey. Please don’t make it a race. Enjoy your time and your journey!
I'm not a fast quilter, but I have learned to en"joy" the journey!

I just love your videos and although I have enough fabric to sew for several lifetimes, I want that fabric line!
What a WONDERFUL mother-daughter relationship. You are both a pleasure to watch. P.S. I love the new fabric line.
This was one of my favorite of all your podcasts! Thank you for keeping it real for us and the encouragement you give us. LOVE the new line💕
I love you two! I look forward to your podcast (I watch on RUclips). It’s like I get to visit with some favorite friends! Congrats on the new collection, it look fantastic!
I always enjoy Mondays when I find out it’s your podcast day! Y’all are such a joy and wealth of information! Keep doing what you’re doing!
Essentials for beginner quilters are ACCURACY in; cutting, 1/4” seams, pressing and squaring up.
Enjoyed today. My quilting motto is “Me, myself and I had fun and joy today. Perfection.” Hi Billy, thanks for the truthful input.
Another great podcast with lots of tips and information. I love all the positivity in all that you do. I love hearing Billy chime in with his thoughts 💭 but we would love to SEE Billy at least once in front of the camera 📷 👏🏻👏🏻😍

You both are my favourite designers and love your fabric, block of the months and Podcasts!
Always look forward to you podcasts:-). Inspiring and have learned so much from the both of you. Love your new fabric collection as well and look forward to seeing new quilts you've made up with this collection.
Thank you, all three of you, for your comments on comparison. Great segment in a great episode!! "Let whatever you do today be enough."

Hi y’all once again absolutely love the info provided! The fabric line is beautiful👏👏👏.
❤️😀
Yes, Billy, Balboa Island near Newport Beach!
Post that chicken salad recipe Sheri and any other ones that you guys think are good for quick meals for quilters!
In my opinion, beginning needs to be squares and rectangles. I'm definitely a beginner and the Feb BOM about did me in. Love these colors! LOVE! I wish I didn’t have to wait until August, I want these now

I so enjoy your podcast, your fabric, I just can't get enough! Do you have any stripes in your line?

@Jen Cozy Fat Quarter Shop has a beginners series that has videos, it teaches you many techniques step by step, take a look I think you would enjoy it
I didn’t read this right, you aren’t a new quilter looking to learn how to quilt, you’re looking for new quilters to share your fabric…………sooo sorry!
Thank you.
I agree with Sherri - getting the 1/4 inch seam consistent is a must in quilting. Ask me how I know! LOL!
You can learn to quilt on your sewing machine
Freemotion quilting is fun
Need an Instapot!!! Can cook frozen meat in 20-30 minutes. Tender! Love mine.
Before the 1/4" seam is cutting accurately. This was a great question.
could you tell me which honey bun or honey buns you used on the quilt behind you. please and where to order it
Would you use Christmas mini charms too if you organized all of them by color to make a quilt? I’m wondering if Christmas mixed in with other prints would look ok or not?
Does the orchid color in your new collection go with the Balboa collection?
I hope the lady who is trying to get her sister- in- law to quilt reads this-tell her the only way to guarantee failure

I live in a small country off of the coast of Europe with only 1 online quilt shop I couldn't afford the prices.
2 months after what happened on receiving my pay cheque went online and found a very good shop in the
USA who have great sales and started quilting again. Sherri and Chelsi I'm glad you keep it real I switch off when people
pretend they have PERFECT LIVES.
I started quilting 3.5 years ago, at the age of 60. Carol, the funny thing, is even though I'm married I'm a loner. My hub was stunned when I said I was going.
18,months after this happened I was out walking the beach when a woman approached me and asked
me would I like to come to the guild as they were looking for new members. You must be joking,
I replied as I walked away. I think Sherri, Donna Jordan, and Kimberly of FQS has an encouraging
way of teaching.
Do you do the patterns and graphics for your fabric collections?
Hi, I am relatively new to quilting. I'm 21, and constantly on a budget. I was wondering what to do with animal themed fabric? I have a bunch, but am not entirely sure how to make a quilt out of it. Thank you- Savannah
How much fabric do you order for yourselves when your new fabric line comes out?
What is your favorite precut to work with?
I want to make the quilt hanging on the wall, "Hearts at Home 2."
Can you link the new quilter that you mentioned?
Do you have a tutorial for Hearts at Home
Where could we buy your fabrics?
