Thanks for this nice solo ! May I ask just one question? I've just bought a kalimba treble in G. How did you managed to tune your kalimba in C ? Did you just switch each F# by F ? Thanks !
Many thanks for your answer! I didn't noticed that some Hugh Tracey kalimbas have a C tuning, I thought that G is the one which is usualy sold. Both seem to have very close tunings, with many notes in common. I hope to see others of your videos in the future, great job!
Even the so called G Kalimba (aka "Alto Kalimba") is tuned in the key of C - but starting with the deepest tone "G" (in the middle) to the highest tone "G" (on the right side). So has is 2 octaves from G to G". When tuned in the key of C, the own difference to the Key of "G" is, that in the key of C all tones are natural: C - D - E - F - G - A - B - C - D - E - F - G - A - B - C whereas in the key of G the F ist sharp, that is F#: C - D - E - F# - G - A - B - C - D - E - F# - G - A - B - C If you prefer the key of C over the key of G, you simply have to retune the F# (F sharp) to F (F natural), that is: Make sure the F# gets tuned a semitone deeper to F (natural). That's it.
