I find it utterly incredible that Schubert composed THIS beast when he was only 13 years old. So much of a genius.
well Mozart wrote his Waisenhausmesse at age 12 ruclips.net/video/vnxH8M31F3g/видео.html
@@gouldhatedbachschromaticfa7494 good for him
@@gouldhatedbachschromaticfa7494 That's an interesting channel name, isn't it? Why'd Gould hate Bach's Chromatic Fantasy?
Check the Piano Concerto in A minor by Mendelssohn, he composed it when he was 12-13
hol up he wrote this at 13
....explaining a genius like Schubert is out of human ability. It extends far beyond our little earth. Schubert is part of eternity that makes me silent, only listening in awe.
This early work of Schubert reveals a gifted young man's ability to express sweetness and even pathos. He must have been a very sensitive child as is demonstrated in the opening few bars where a plaintive melody has a childlike innocence and yet the minor key suggests depth of feeling more adult in nature. This is indeed a refreshing foretaste of the vast array of musical settings yet to come.
13 years old! We already feel the style of his well known chamber music.
The formative recorded string quartet cycle of my youth.
At 81, I only recently began to appreciate Schubert, and only now have I discovered his string quartets; guess I spent too much time with Beethoven, Brahms, Dvorak, Mendelssohn and Mozart!
David P luckily it’s not time wasted! Personally as a cellist I lean towards Beethoven and Dvorak! ( not to mention Bach obviously)
I wasn't suggesting it was time wasted; perhaps my time with the other composers is what caused me to finally appreciate Schubert; it seems the older I become, my appreciation widens and I realize what I've missed in the past..
How about Haydn, one of the greatest.
I am also 81 and I have long neglected Mendelssohn en Schumann quartets. Since I have access tot You Tube I known what I have missed. Viva You Tube !

Thanks man
Imagine Mozart meeting Schubert in his lifetime. I wounder how their conversation would be. If there is any reincarnation of Mozart than it is Schubert.
I actually had a dream about that last night! Mozart died 6 yrs before schuberts birth
Epic concerto battles of history!
Wonderful!
A proper genius in the making. Bad luck he died so early, had he lived to at least the age of Mozart there certainly wouldn't exist such a wide debate on who the greatest composer of all time was
Nice quartet for string students. I always think about Pleyel when I hear this.
Who is that
This recording is very sharp - A=452.4. Is the record player running fast?
I don't know, I didn't edit the recording, and didn't notice that because I don't have absolute pitch. I think it could be just the players' choice.
You're probably right. I've been playing the violin along with several string quartets on RUclips and they are all sharper than A 440; this one is the sharpest I've found so far though.
Thank you for taking the trouble to post these with scores.
This is due to small changes in speed, what is typical for vinyl recordings (notice the vinyl
distortion" sound in the very beginning of audiofile). The belt controlling the velocity tend to loose with the time, hence the speed and pitch go somewhat high.
Gillian Ferguson do you have absolute pitch, and did the piece sound like e major to you?
@@SuperMumboo I thought it was boroque tuning 💀
What.. Wow..
do you know where i can find this in the correct pitch?
Noah Sheikh editionsilvertrust.com sells the score and they have audio samples in correct pitch
accoding to wich principle are repetitisons played or omitted?
Philology about the standard use of repetition signs, balance in lenght between movements, personal taste of the performers... A lot of different factors, the choice of playing or not the repetitions is always debatable and open to discussion.
What a nice fugue around the 15:37 mark.
Ce n'est pas une fugue mais un canon. Le mérite n'en est pas moins grand.
Not a fugue
@@Zimzamzoom95 the theme is literally repeated in the four voices. one after another.
@@RaymondDoerr It's a canon at the octave, not a fugue
@Will Durrant That makes a lot more sense that its a canon.

How does anyone dislike Schubert? They are madmen who defame his talent.
They are swayed by critics. They don't enjoy hearing existential dread in the form of music. They don't like melodies lol Schubert is in my top 3. ❤

Who are the performers?
Melos Quartet, the original video is in the description.
Thanks for uploading - very "immature" Schubert this, but at least two movements surely have their appeal.
"Immature"? Really? This is powerful work. Care to elaborate, because If it was immature it wouldnt sound nearly as amazing as this is.
"Immature" in a musical context merely means that it is one of a composer's earliest works- one that does not yet exhibit the unique style and musical vocabulary we have come to associate him with. It needn't take away from your enjoyment of the quartet. Schubert would likely be gratified you find it powerful and amazing.
How about a waltz?
If he made concertos hed be in the top 5 of beethoven bach mozart and haydn
Why is this almost a half step high?
As I said in another comment, I didn't edit the recording, so either they're playing with a higher tuning or the recording has been sped up (it could happen, if it's a rip from a vynil).
The recording is 1 tone above
A semittone, actually; it's something common for ripped vinyls. :)
І ніхто не помітив, що ноти і звучання не збігаються? На пів тона
The recording is a half step higher than the score.
It's in the wrong key compared to the score provided. 😠😭
The recording is just slightly higher. I don't know if it's because they're using a different tuning (improbable) or because of the rip-off from the vinyl (more probable).
1/4 tone higher approx.
My internal sense of tuning has become more off than on as I've aged, so I'm glad I'm not the only one who caught that.
