I've been spending 90% of my time in this game building my settlement, it's so much fun. Bethesda should definitely add more contents and improve this mode, maybe even make a spin-off / mini game based on this mode, it has huge potentials.
+Thang Nguyen i agree. i hope we get a DLC for the settlers to make them more interactive or something. would be nice to attach a text note to them or at least be able to name them. i also get lost in minecraft dealing with villagers all day. they also need a random settler generator so we get different looking ones, some fat ones maybe.
+walmartian I'm hoping they provide something that means you can name things like containers, I've made an armory building in my settlement and have different containers for weapons, armour, mods, aid etc and really want to name them!
+G 1989 You should be able to do so with the GECK once Beth releases it. I did exactly that in both FO3 and NV, creating named containers for my various types of weapons, ammo, armor, ect... It'll be a bit different since FO4 has a build mode, but it still should be doable.
to go above 20 settlers, put on a few pieces of clothing that give extra Charisma, find the bobblehead, use xcel chem and some drinks and you can get up to 38 settlers(that's the most i got).when all effects are active, just go to a settlement and command the settlers there to all ''move'' to your prefered settlement and they will stay there even if the chems wear off and you remove the clothing. BTW, no need for mods to have unlimited space in your settlement, when you have reached the max, drop a bunch of junk on the ground and scrap it all, the game will wrongly think you are taking stuff out and free some building space. Rinse and repeat as much as you want.
Mutfruit is also an ideal way to farm caps in the game. It's very light so you can carry gargantuan quantities of it without forgoing fast travel, and hop from merchant to merchant all across the map just taking all of their caps. :)
+Elizabeth Wear plus there is a mission in a place (prof. Brown is his name) and you sell mutfruits to him (they grow right outside the door of their own settlement too...)
Elizabeth Wear It's graygarden, south-west of lexington proper vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/fallout/images/4/48/FO4_map_Graygarden.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20151112211642
Elizabeth Wear Yeah that is annoying "have you heard about the robots who have their own farm?" another one goes by straight after... "you know their are robots that have taken over farm nearby" ARRRRRRRRGH That's why I had to find it.
+Dat Saintsfan had no idea about those things. I was using vertibirds to transfer 3000 lbs in total from all other settlements to The Castle. Thanks :)
Make sure you all build scavenger stations in all your workshops and assign a settler to them. That will get you some supplies and materials over time which helps much.
+koolerpure tgm Just got a lot more useful compared to old games...not that it wasn't useful. Especially if you got quicksave stuck in insta death. Quickly open console, ---> tgm move a bit, turn it off.
Bob John Yeah but It's so damn boring and meticulous, I literally went to the same dayum places when I ran outtta spots to explore. If you wanna build sweet ass settlement's, playing fair is not recomended, other wise, 20 minutes into building: "Oh sht! Ran outta gears! Gotta go to Robco!" *Loots all of Robco, but Robco ends up only having copper and ceramic*
I currently have 26 Settlers in the Castle, and they are not leaving despite me not wearing the charisma boosting clothes or taking drugs, another way to get unlimited size in any version of the game for settlements is to drop items in your settlement, such as weapons, and then store them in the workbench whilst in settlement mode, rinse and repeat, also you can drop junk items, and scrap them in settlement mode that also will decrease the complexity meter :)
That's a nice trick! I can't get the purifying water trick to work though. I have enough power and all the pumps are powered up. I have way more water than settlers - but I don't receive any purified water. Do you know what I'm missing?
+SimonKalevra Are you checking the "Aid" section in your workshop? If you have water purifiers up and running at a settlement, you should be able to collect it once every 1 or 2 days by selecting "Transfer" at that settlements workshop and switching to "Aid" in the workshops inventory, scrolling down, and transferring the purified water to your characters inventory. I was under the impression, when I first completed my purifiers in Sanctuary, that I would find the purified water in my inventory. But later I realized I had to go and get it from Sanctuary's workshop. You will also collect your caps from the workshop as well, as long as you have shops up and running in that settlement.
yeah I did that. I get some now, but I'm not sure if there is a cap or not. I'm not getting all the excess water - but what I get is more than enough now. Thanks anyway :)
SimonKalevra Well I set up about 20 large purifiers in Sanctuary and get about 400+ purified water at a time, so I'm not sure if there is a cap ha. It's also stupid because nobody has enough money to buy it all so I have to lug it around for a day or two waiting for their caps to refill lol. But yeah you can make a ton of cash with just a 100 purified water anyways so I guess it doesn't matter. No problem, man.
They only need to be connected to one long continuous line, you don't have to make a big complex spiderweb. Any settlement connected to the network will share resources with all the others that are also connected. So you don't have to send someone from the Castle to Sanctuary, you can just send them to the next nearest settlement, and make a chain of supply lines back to Sanctuary.
You can perfectly align the concrete walls if you use the stairs which you see at 5:02 on the right side. Just build the stairs to the first layer of wall and then build the second layer of wall to the stair above or beyond the first layer. With this method you can align the second layer exactly the same way as the first layer or offset it by half (depends where you build the stair at the first layer).
i know this vid is a lil bit older but just so you guys know, if you want to expand settlement size then wait until you're at max settlement size, dump a bunch of guns on the ground, pick them all up individually and the bar should go back down. tested 8/6/16 still works c:
The "YOURE SPECIAL" book can be used to add +1 charisma (or any other special stat). This can help with increasing population. Just thought I'd add that
+ReviewDogeUSA what are you, 6 and a half? when you build a water purifier does it say you need unlimited items? if your horse gets any higher you'll breech the atmosphere.
It says on the wiki, on this particular topic, "Excess food and water will be used to supply all the settlements in the supply network. How a "green" shortage affects happiness in a settlement is not covered here." So, does this mean if I have one or two farms producing 500+ food, and I have supply lines set up, I will not have to worry about making food in other settlements? What exactly does the second sentence mean?
The water purification buisness works. I started with 2 and now have 8 in Sanctuary and now 4 in Far Harbor that provides all the money i need. The cycle on my PS4 seems based more on doing something than on time. I can fast travel to Sanctuary and have a full supply of water and then if i mod a weapon i might have another full supply. Doing one of the little side missions like defend a settlement or a fetch quest for the brotherhood will usually fill my water supply again. However i only get about 30 per purifier and not 40. Also wear clothing, hats , and glasses that up charisma for higher sale prices. $3 more per gallon makes a big difference when selling large quantities.
FYI, you guys on consoles can do this WITHOUT mods very easily at Sanctuary, I wouldn't use The Castle, it's impractical since we ARE limited by space. Line the whole river with them, easy 400-500 water bottles. High charisma and bartering, lots of caps, like 5000-6000 caps every 48+ hours. :)
that's so fucked up. it wasn't just France there was a total of 3 countries hit by this scum idiocy! what about all there family's? and china's earthquakes on the exact same day!
You can have 10 charisma, so that's 20. 21 if you find the charisma bobblehead. You can get unlimited sizing without needing the game on PC. If you drop junk/armor/weapons in your base, go into the base editor, and then scrap those items it decreases how much room you've used up on your base.
You can increase populations above your normal maximum by sending them to your settlement from other settlements, and they seem to stay. Saves a lot of trouble trying to mess with buffing charisma. It's also a lot easier to stockpile settlers like this, since you can have various settlements with active beacons recruiting them.
+xHUNTERKILLAx The point is that it could be legit. All the mods he has are just texture replacements, you could do everything he talks about on a console as well.
HAHA Cait's looking hot in that Grognak outfit! The only problem with the water idea is that npc's are so limited on caps it takes a lot of trouble to sell a lot of stuff.
i have 30 settlers at nordhagen beach, not sure how. i think you can wear non charisma gear for a couple days without loosing a settler as long as you switch back to charisma gear...? i also keep a pocketful of grape mentats i pop during romantic moments and such, this might have boosted my pop somehow to 30, it went down once to 29 but when i went to the settlement it was back at 30
a while back i just waited for settlers to spawn at redrocket and then i would assign them as a provisioner to sanctuary. then i would go to sanctuary and wait for the provisioner and then assign them somewhere in the settlement . even after they were unasined they just stuck around the settlement. only issue was it was a bit glitchy but effecive and i had over 90 settlers in sanctuary on ps4.
I can't believe i didn't think about selling the water lol! Also that's great that you just need to connect to 1 settlement, I kept having to wait in each settlement to find the provisioner and change her route until I saw this video thanks man!
easy way to make money (with mods). get the nano armor mod or whatever its called. craft multiple of the nano swords and jetpack and sell for about 800 to 1000 a piece. pretty easy to craft but you need like 4 in armorer and 3 in something else.
I had no clue about the raiders, my settlements never got raided which was annoying because I felt like al the defence was useless, but will definitely bump up water and food to see what happens, thanks!
If I have multiple supply lines, do I split all of my items throughout each place that I have a supply line. OR if I have 100 pieces of wood, will I have 100 pieces of wood at each settlement that I have a supply line? I haven't figured this out which is why I haven't created a ton of supply lines
I've been getting a ton of money just by harvesting my food then selling it as well. I get well over a hundred mutfruit and corn, etc and sell it all the time. The purifier is a great idea though, I'm going to try that next!
If you find the average of your food and water supplies, and then multiply it by 2, you have good defense. For example, you have 5 food and 7 water, you will need 12 defense.
Well, I have a defense of 141 at the castle. 4 missile turrets at front, then laser turret and 3 spotlights. Then at the back I have a shotgun turret protecting them along the stairwell. At the back door, I have 2 heavy lasers and then protecting them, 2 heavy machine gun turrets. So, do us think I can lose in a raider fight
My question is: can u make settlements devoted to transporting excess food, through "SL", to other settlements so that i dont have to waste resources/manpower farming there? If i wasnt clear above; i dont want to farm at the castle, so i have Abernathy Farm and Sanctuary producing 34 food each. with the settler number at 9/10 respectively, they should produce around 20 each, that's 40 being transported to the castle. Is this how it works?
The bit that you’re explaining at 1:55 doesn’t work for me. Had a line from SDI to SH and from SDI to RRTS and tried building defences at SH but didn’t have enough Nuke Material. Had to return to RRTS to retrieve them but they’re all in the same network, just not directly linked. Why?
This will prove usefull! it's hard to keeps settlement growing on looting alone unless you just stick to one. I'll have to give some of these tips a try
I was listening intently to this till 1:28 where you head shot that settler with the sniper rifle and my attention span totally fell apart lmao Thanks for the awesome information :D
You can actually have unlimited size for your base if your on console, there's a easy glitch that you can do, Just search up "unlimited building space on console" and it should come up
I have a question I have a ton of junk stored in a desk at sanctuary Hills if I set up a supply line from sanctuary Hills to the castle will I get to use those supplies in my build or are those even considered part of my resources
ok i have a question for anyone who can answer. when setting up shops do npc come to shop and you can see it or does it work invisibly? what i mean is does it just act like someone bought somthing and stores money in workshop or do people really come to visit the shop?
Most helpful video I've seen so far for building settlements! I've only just started getting really into this side of the game so only have a couple of supply lines set up but will definitely be starting a water farm when I play later!!!
Wait so lets say you have all the settlements. To access all the items in the settlements do you have to link every settlement to each other individually and have almost everyone in your settlements as a supply line person since theres like 20 or something settlements? Or can you just make a single supply line route from settlement to settlement or circle to link all the settlements??
hi, a question on settlement. In the pipboy under data then settlement, sometimes i see an exclamation mark in a triangle sign. i can solve most of the problem except happiness. wad the sign is next to the happinesss, wad does it mean n how do u increase it? Thanks
So i added in the local leader perks via console commands and definitely have it but I cannot use the supply lines button it actually doesn't show up at all so I haven't been able to make any.
i would like a video of a mod once it comes out that lets you clear ugly leavs and junk you cant move or mods with new stuff to build like gun racks once they become available
you repaired those walls exactly as i did :D I tried also 1 high tower with landing platform on top for vertibirds but they still land down on surface.
If you max and have 20 + Any followers that you may leave behind? You can increase the number if you wait long enough by building robots if you have that d. L. C see now if you do a modepending on the location and the surroundings. You could probably max it out around 30 to 40 But by then you're kind of pushing it because your game is going to slow down depending on the console you use. But without mods i've maxed out all my settlements At 20 So that's about all you can get without robots and I wouldn't add robots right away because your settlement can only have 20 settlers from the start so you want to get. As many human settlers are so possible. After that robots you build. I find that I typically just build a robot. For the import export, they take stuff from point AT appoint me. Nt, they don't count as a settler. When you do that the number of settlers you have drop by one. They leave the area. So you're gonna have a max of 20 settlers plus 1. Trade Make in the total number twenty one can Anyone say blackjack, but I've gotten the mod where you can create settlers and other things like people who buy and sell stuff but it does count against your settlement with the exception of certain ones I I'd say Voltaire is probably the location where you can get the most Bang for your buck. If you wait long enough if you build your charisma hide off. Also, it doesn't only count for your Christmas. It also counts for a number of locations at 1 version. Foremost, you found too. The number of settlements you found and you're reputation. The more your reputation is, the more you do for another settlement needs your help, the more settlers you get. And unlike 70 six, the Are almost in love. But there is a max cap level. A max cap hours you can play and a MAX level of You can have in The Game. Also, the building limit is set for a very good reason. I've crashed my game so many times On spectacle island alone, trying to break that barrier. Even the mod the game does not like it when you turn off the limitations.😅 Fun game though I wish there was a mob. We could turn off boundaries. It just depends on what system you're on
If I have settlements A and B and I discover a third C settlement that's closer to both A and B than A and B are to each other, is it possible to cancel trade route A-B to rather create route A-C-B?
Hey, I've been using the water purifying technique to earn a lot of caps, but since I've been placing supply lines I see that I've been getting a lot less water, before I was making around 42 per 30 irl minutes, but now, I'm getting around 12! Halp
Do you have around 700 water for a settlement and have you been powering the purifiers. If yes and your still not getting shit. Check if the generators are damaged. You can get around 450 purified water per surplus at 700 water.
You can get more settlers by doing quests for the Mechanist. She sends you out to destroy rogue robots, and sometimes when you are there, there will be 3 settlers around. Be careful not to kill them. Sometimes instead of settlers, there will be BoS, Synths or Minutemen instead, however. You can just keep sending settlers to whatever settlements you want. Also, if you have a surplus of beds and have your Recruitment Beacon on, you will still attract the odd settler. Some of my settlements now have 40+ settlers.
When you're done, there's a settlement that needs your help.
Sorry Preston, but now is not the time to help settlements.
Let me mark it on your map.

+Dr_PepperPHD they might not even come to ps4
+matty Op Why would you say that
+Bayley Merritt they have just confirmed xbox it just might not even come to ps4
o ok didnt know thought it was your opinion at first thank you.
You can increase populations above your normal maximum by sending them to your settlement from other settlements, and they seem to stay. Saves a lot of trouble trying to mess with buffing charisma. It's also a lot easier to stockpile settlers like this, since you can have various settlements with active beacons recruiting them.
I've had 28 settlers. My question is however, HOW THE FUCK DO YOU HAVE GREEN GRASS!?!?! Is that end game or a mod?
+James Deal It's a mod that just makes grass green, not a very cool one lol.
+James Deal flora mod, theres also one for trees, at the moment they are limited, once the geck comes out, im sure some beautiful scenery will be made
+James Deal 38 suckerrrr
RoniusMaxed That was before mods son. I've got 88 now. Sucker
James Deal I didn't need mods suckerrrr
I'm glad you said that about settlers because I have 16 settlers and I can't get anymore and 16 is just a weird cap number, but this definitely helps
this guy mods everything this base isnt legitimate would of bin epic if he did this all proper but its not
+xHUNTERKILLAx The point is that it could be legit. All the mods he has are just texture replacements, you could do everything he talks about on a console as well.
I can make an exact copy of his base on console, I just did the dogmeat glitch on shipments and have 10000+ wood and steel from doing it.
at sanctuary I have about 30 industrial water purifiers and get about 1300 every day
this game looks hacked and modded to shit.
+MakeShiftHero like 3 mods are visible in this video...3...and they arent even ones that change gameplay aside from the settlement building man..
PacMyleZz I know and it's already visually breaking the fallout atmosphere.
from another perspective the flora just makes the lore more realistic.
HAHA Cait's looking hot in that Grognak outfit! The only problem with the water idea is that npc's are so limited on caps it takes a lot of trouble to sell a lot of stuff.
For consoles it's the bash/power attack button
Ps4 R1
Xbone RB
I recommend spectical island its just of the coast from the castle it has a very large build area.
i have 30 settlers at nordhagen beach, not sure how. i think you can wear non charisma gear for a couple days without loosing a settler as long as you switch back to charisma gear...?
i also keep a pocketful of grape mentats i pop during romantic moments and such, this might have boosted my pop somehow to 30, it went down once to 29 but when i went to the settlement it was back at 30
a while back i just waited for settlers to spawn at redrocket and then i would assign them as a provisioner to sanctuary.
then i would go to sanctuary and wait for the provisioner and then assign them somewhere in the settlement .
even after they were unasined they just stuck around the settlement.
only issue was it was a bit glitchy but effecive and i had over 90 settlers in sanctuary on ps4.
what was the settlement on the island he was on about
You can sell the water to the young boy in diamond city, too! And you can sell him as much as you want. He's next to the wall you have to paint.
Lol ikr what a waste of power.. My def is like 100+ while resources is around 25 something haha
If I have multiple supply lines, do I split all of my items throughout each place that I have a supply line. OR if I have 100 pieces of wood, will I have 100 pieces of wood at each settlement that I have a supply line? I haven't figured this out which is why I haven't created a ton of supply lines
I love how you repaired the castle walls at the enterance.
I'd love a Top 5 Settlements of the week! Could use some of what I see as ideas cus mine are pretty terrible at the moment lol.
But the average multiplied by 2 is literally just water + food.
Legit man thanks. I've been working to get local leader so bad and then once I got it i had no idea how to use it lol
I max out at 15 settlers in sanctuary but i think those extra can come from getting them sent from other places
I don't know if it was affected by clothing or bobbleheads but I have had 21 people in sanctuary hills
R1 button for PS4. If you bought the Vault tech you get a settler management console. I still need to dabble into its use
Why?
Do you need to connect the water pumps to an electricity generator for them to produce purified water?
You can't sell all your waters at one vendor though, since they only have about 100-200 caps to begin with
thanks for the water tip bro! i had no idea it generated water, that explains why i had so many lol
This will prove usefull! it's hard to keeps settlement growing on looting alone unless you just stick to one. I'll have to give some of these tips a try
"You done fucked up now" -Settler @ 1:43
Wow, I didn't know that about the water purifiers making water for you.
Everything is so bright and vivid! What mod are you using to cause that? Do you have a list of installed mods?
Is there a video of you building this base. I would move to watch it!
ok i have a question for anyone who can answer. when setting up shops do npc come to shop and you can see it or does it work invisibly? what i mean is does it just act like someone bought somthing and stores money in workshop or do people really come to visit the shop?
Most helpful video I've seen so far for building settlements! I've only just started getting really into this side of the game so only have a couple of supply lines set up but will definitely be starting a water farm when I play later!!!
Wait so lets say you have all the settlements. To access all the items in the settlements do you have to link every settlement to each other individually and have almost everyone in your settlements as a supply line person since theres like 20 or something settlements? Or can you just make a single supply line route from settlement to settlement or circle to link all the settlements??
Thank you for explaining that perk! I thought I would have lug all my junk to each settlement. This saves me a bunch of time. Thanks again!
regarding the water you mention you can just sell it, does it appear in your inventory or do you have to examine the water purifier to pick it up??
Can you set up a supply line between settlements in the commonwealth and ones on the Island in the Far Harbor DLC?
Just what I needed to know about how to link resources between my settlements, many thanks sir!
hmm my settlements don't chain link. I can't access sanctuary goods from say drive in even tho both are linked to the truck stop
My question is about the supply lines. Do the settlers still count as a member of the origin of the line or as a settler of the destiny ?
origin
ok so dose supply line alow you to use items like beds that were built in one location like sanctuary in the castle?
hi, a question on settlement. In the pipboy under data then settlement, sometimes i see an exclamation mark in a triangle sign. i can solve most of the problem except happiness. wad the sign is next to the happinesss, wad does it mean n how do u increase it?
Thanks
Omg been waiting on how to get those castle walls to Sanctuary, that clearly explain things, thanks!
the settlement stuff just gets me more hyped for fallout 5
So i added in the local leader perks via console commands and definitely have it but I cannot use the supply lines button it actually doesn't show up at all so I haven't been able to make any.
Nice one Saints. Helped a lot. Too bad I'm on console coz my laptop ran away into a corner and cried when I checked out the PC reqs.
i would like a video of a mod once it comes out that lets you clear ugly leavs and junk you cant move or mods with new stuff to build like gun racks once they become available
that purified water trick is nice, thanks
I'm gonna make a no spoiler settlement building series that I build things suggested by people in the comments!
Please do a tutorial on how you built your base. Please!! It's awesome and I want to build it.
0:43 Whats that big white wolf think ?
How did you get the grass so green at the castle ?? I'd love that!!!
I love how you nonchalantly attack your settlers as you're giving your game tips lol.
you repaired those walls exactly as i did :D I tried also 1 high tower with landing platform on top for vertibirds but they still land down on surface.
Trade
Make in the total number twenty one can Anyone say blackjack, but I've gotten the mod where you can create settlers and other things like people who buy and sell stuff but it does count against your settlement with the exception of certain ones I I'd say Voltaire is probably the location where you can get the most Bang for your buck.
Damn this so helpful, gotta increase that charisma more. I love building settlements.
