That race was one of the most exciting swimming races I've seen live. Never seen 4 at the wall like that before. Phenomenal stuff.

One of the best races in swimming I've ever seen! I remember watching it and being amazed. I know Freney did amazing but did you see Watkins!? Keep in mind GBR were second to last when she dived in. All that ground she made up. Just incredible. So much respect for them all.

I don't like watching swimming competitions. This is hands down the most exciting race I have ever seen in my life (I'm 64). I was jumping up and down like an effing maniaxlc the last half a length, honestly didn't know what to do with myself. Cup of tea did not cover it. Absolutely effing brilliant!

My favourite Olympic or Paralympic moment since Michael Johnson won the 200/400 double. Stunning performance from Freney, unbelievably powerful. So exciting!

Every time I watch this race it brings tears to by eyes. Such a phenomenal relay four international teams to the wall at once but claimed in true Freney style with an incredible finish.

Yep! The first 4 were within a meter of each other so 1 wrong move and the gold would be out of reach!

I remember I was new to club swimming and it was my first club meet and the paralympian in this video from USA who swam breastroke was there and we already met before. I was so glad I got an opportunity to talk with her throughout the meet talking about my swims even though it was my first meet new to the sport

Best race I've ever seen, fantastic stuff. Felt a bit for the russian girls, but what excitement.

the 8th gold for this lady: jacqui freney.
but i mean, of all 4 girls in the last leg: russia, australia, usa & gb, both guseva (rus) & freney (aus) r S7, whereas weggemann (us) is S8 & watkins (uk) S9. imagine how fast freney was, bearing in mind she trailed guseva by 10-12 m.
amazing, really a jaw-dropping performance of this aussie phelps of a jacqueline freney.
S9 watkins was the last of the 4 to dive in, but it was a blanket finish as the commentator said.
    congratulations to all.

If this is the sort of thing we get at the paralympics then can't all sports have a handicap system? Not just the greatest paralympic race of all time, but the greatest RACE of all time!

There are more classified sports than you might think, actually. Remember that most combat sports (boxing, wrestling, etc.), weightlifting, and rowing all have weight classifications, since otherwise the big athletes would have an unfair advantage.

Hi, Paralympic Games youtube channel! It is possible to change the 480p quality of all the swimming and wheelchair basketball live coverages and videos into a 720p quality at least? I'm sorry, but I think it's a shame having videos with a low image quality for a huge event like the Paralympic Games.
Thank you for being comprehensive. Best regards.

Hi Paula. Thanks for your feedback. The actual livestream of this event was streamed in high/broadcast quality, it's just the short clips of the individual races from London 2012 where the resolution was lowered. We realise the higher quality is better and so we now always produce video content in either 720 or 1080!

      +Mehmet Ege Sacak
To ensure competition is fair and equal, all Paralympic sports have a system in place which ensures that winning is determined by skill, fitness, power, endurance, tactical ability and mental focus, the same factors that account for success in sport for able bodied athletes.
This process is called classification and its purpose is to minimise the impact of impairment on the activity (sport discipline).
A lower number sport class indicates a more severe activity limitation than a higher number.
Relay teams are based on a point score. The sport class of an individual swimmer
is worth the actual number value i.e. sport class S6 is worth six points, sport
class SB12 is worth 12 points, etc.
The total number of points in a team cannot exceed 34 points.
      Hope that helps!
