I Got Rid of 90% of My Stuff

- I just decluttered 90% of my stuff. I am leaving my apartment after 4.5 years and will be living out of a single suitcase for a while. So I had to clear out all corners of the apartment, go through bathroom cabinets, kitchen shelves, and stuff I stored under the bed. Declutter everything. Go full extreme minimalism.
In his book The Untethered Soul, Michael Singer writes: “We’re really not trying to be free of our stuff; we’re trying to justify keeping it.” I realized how true that is when I had to minimize and declutter all my possessions.
in this video I want to share what it was like, how it felt, and some of the lessons I learned in the process.

I commend the lack of attachment. I have possessions in my life that are, in the Stoic sense, preferred indifferents. But I was glad when I could inhabit Thoreau’s wisdom:
“It is desirable that a man live in all respects so compactly and preparedly that, if an enemy take the town, he can, like the old philosopher, walk out the gate empty-handed without anxiety.”.
Holding things lightly and stepping lightly in the world is a real gift.
With every good wish for what comes next for you, Peter.
I am in process of getting rid of stuff that is not being used anymore. Still have about 15 items to sell, and that will be it. Now they are waiting for their day somewhere in wardrobes, out of my sight, and i feel relieved and lighted.
I wish you a Merry Christmas, Peter, and a happy New year without clutter but with clear mind and space!:)
As someone with too much stuff, there are too many things that I own because I couldn’t find the item I needed to find in my stuff in the first place. You can guess why I am watching this video!
Slow travel sounds amazing. What a wonderful way to explore.
Parting with guitars is always a bittersweet moment for me as well.
Peter, best wishes as you move into this new part of your life. I’m so happy that you’ll continue producing videos for us to view and contemplate.
I have been living with just and back pack and a carry on bag since September 2021. After immigrating to Mexico alone in my early 60’s. Traveled around the USA staying in rooms with friends, family and timeshares while collecting documents for moving to Panama. To get their retirement Visa with its generous benefits. Now trading services for a shared house on a small island in the PNW while supporting the Presidential candidate RFK Jr. After the election depending on whether he wins. Seeing if I stay or move on. Love this lifestyle. I don’t own any mode of transportation other than my feet and I like that way. Thanks for spreading this lifestyle. It help having been an only child and loving my own company and never getting bored.
Have found and am enjoying your channel - hope you are having a lovely time wherever you are!
Best wishes on this new chapter of your life, my friend! Getting rid of things is hard, but the feeling of peace afterwards is worth it.
90 percent of rarely read books to the public library. Same for recordings rarely played. Certain electronic items given to appropriate clubs for use or resale to benefit those clubs. Clothing no longer worn but in decent shape to the SA. I could go on. Definitely liberating. All donated, not sold. If you are a senior, you should really consider thinning out your possessions.
Looking forward to your future videos Peter! All the best!
The best of luck Peter! I'm sure you will be successful and feel equally fulfilled in this new phase of your life. I'm really excited for you. Safe travels...
All the very best for your new adventure Peter. It will be interesting to see where you rock up next!
What a great message, Peter. I would be lost if my landlord said I had to vacate, and you are turning this into a positive springboard to new adventures. Can’t wait to see what’s next in your journey. Thank you
I think a lot of us would be lost, everyone I speak to who rents have said that it would be difficult to find somewhere now with availability and prices.
Thank you for the inspiration and I wish you all the best in whats next!!
You have such good vibes! I wish you the Best on your new personal journey 🌹🌹🌹

I wish you a great journey!!!
Thanks Peter ! I enjoyed your video!
I take photographs and store them electronically. I put them in albums and, occasionally, go through them and add notes. But some i delete. Then i dont need the items to spark memories.
Good luck and thanks for sharing!
Love, love, love your fabulous positivity 🇦🇺🎄❤️
Looking forward to your next journey!

Hello Peter… I miss your inspiring videos. Hope you post an update soon🌞
Looks like the church in Elburg on that painting. Loved your video!
I wish you a great new adventurous time! Looking forward to seeing what comes next 🤗 And if you don’t mind me asking, where are you originally from? Warm greetings from Nora (from the Netherlands)
Last video I asked if you ever wanted to travel. I guess I could sense a change coming!
Good luck with your next stage in life👍.
Seniors here in the UK are often selling their stuff to pay their electricity bills. I give directly to people I know because charity donations are diminished before they reach any potential recipient, and that includes the SA who are already in the property market. My books have been sorted and donated, but not the library because they cannot be trusted as custodians of our history. The items I most value will be sorted by a young local couple who earn a good living when houses are put on the market. Any residual monies will pay for our funerals. Wills all written, everything sorted.
Where did the dog go?
would definitely be interesting to incorporate some travel vlogs
Nothing is certain in life. Enjoy all the teaching give you in this uncertainty. Be that rolling stone.
You are very nice and courageous
Feeling that way about starting a social media career. I know what you're talking about has been talked about by many people on youtube, but I think the more people talk about it, the better. Feeling like i'm too old (i'm 32) and having a lot of conflicting thoughts about what i want to do/talk about. On one hand, I love fashion and costuming. But I also know how detrimental they are to the enviroment. And I notice the fashion channels that generate the most views feature under 25 year olds. Plus, i feel like the idea i want to put forth (that you don't have to be wealthy to live a more sustainable life or be a white, middle class woman) are things that people either dontvwant to hear or are notvready for.
i really miss living this simply.
