Saying you “let it go” sounds better than “threw it out”. 😉💞 Great video. 👍🏻
The 3 month no use idea is not applicable in a 4 season climate or for seasonal decorations. You could use a longer timeframe (ie a year) for those
I agree. 1 year
also depends on where you live...where I live yes in warmer regions no not necessarily. Also does decoration have place in a real minimalist lifestyle?
This was so helpful! I’ve watched so many decluttering videos but I wanted to understand why it’s so hard for me to let go of things. I love the “I can always buy it again!” So simple, yet I never thought of it that way.
You must have money
Cjon, this was hilarious 😂 - Carleen
You guys are awesome!
There were some really funny moments... "Find a way!" 😆🤣
However, there were also some really incredible tips in there to help with letting go.
If I say I can buy it again~ 2 problems with that for me... 1. It will be of lesser quality & cost more than it did when I first purchased it & 2. If I already own it thinking I can always buy it again what's the point to sell, donate, or toss it? The excitement returns to me when I use, see or wear the item. Guess I'm just weird. Thanks for your video.
Loved the part with the great-aunt!😂 Seriously, this was the most motivating video I've seen in a while.👌
My favourite #6 I could bless someone else with this...
6:15 The little cutie eating the red ketchup so close to the white couch was making me quite anxious!
What you said is 💯 percent true. Guilt and sentimental items are the most hardest things to declutter. Watching this video motivates me to declutter again. Thanks.
i think the main reason is PEOPLE THINK THEY MAY NEED THEM SOON
Sometimes when we get rid of things it blesses others 😊
This is great! Hearing from a guy is refreshing.
"find a way" 😆😆😆😆😆 great information and some good laughs!
This guy puts it how it is thank you subbed!
Hahahaha very good video. Fun and useful!
Thank you! This video was super helpful. I had it on repeat as I was decluttering a super hard room.
I feel like there is something abnormal with me because the urge or need or desire to declutter is greater than the sentiment behind an item. Can anyone else relate❓love your channel. I have forwarded to others. Thank you
That’s how I am. No item feels sentimental at all. -Carleen
This is just what I needed to hear to start my journey....Thank you.
I totally thought the baseball bat story was going to have a different ending. "I kept that bat in the trunk of my car... the car that I decluttered... I didn't look at this bat for years... until one day, in the Wal-Mart parking lot, some guy backs into me, but doesn't apologize... so I go to my trunk... I get the bat..."
Thank you this was some of the thoughts I was looking for. Struggling over here and need to purge! Its so hard. You got tips for getting kids on board? Toys??
Very helpful. Thank you.
You’re awesome. You have helped me so much to declutter.
Awww man I need to see this video 😂😂🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿🦾🦾🤲🏿
My daughters have told me that there is nothing in my house they will keep if I pass away! It makes me sad but I remember clearing my parents and grandparents houses and to be honest the only things I kept were photographs and the odd reminders of their lives.
I could not live in a room without art on the walls.
He is so f if he has guest that needs extra blanket or towel for earthquake emergency.
He is so f if he has guest that needs extra blanket or towel for earthquake emergency.
No way, I feel worry that I am letting something go that I will need and worry about having anxiety about this possible time I knew I needed it and let it go. I mean how many times have I lost something and wanted it back! Who cares about guilt...bye Felicia to that guilt. That's easy.
keep them coming guys i love your channel so helpful and yeah minimalism is awesome ahhhhhh
We are unpacking after a cross country move. I’m wondering if my old journals are kind of like the baseball bat? I rarely go back and look at them. I am going to use all of these strategies as we unpack.
I know I might not be motivating but I was thinking you might save these journals for your kids or grandkids someday. I would have loved having something like this handed down to me! My kids, on the other hand don't seem to share this sentiment.
This video was very inspiring, all the points you brought up made a lot of sense. I know down the line I'll have to watch it again. p.s. Even I had a hard time letting go of the bat. Can't believe you did it.
Awesome video! Funny and inspiring. Gave me the nudge I needed to let a lot of stuff go. Thank you!
Loved this video, You are the best, hugs Jannike from Sweden ❤️🇸🇪
Watching videos like this helps me feel less guilty about getting rid of gifts, especially from those who know I don’t like gifts. For my wedding I stressed the fact that no gifts were wanted and of course an aunt gave me a big engraved box with a bible passed down from my grandmothers wedding. My grandmothers marriage ended in divorce so this really had no meaning to me at all. I gave it to my mother as it held more meaning to her. As for the box it was big and not something that I would display in my home so I gave it to a friend. I still feel resentment toward the aunt that gave it to me knowing how I feel about holding on to things and being so minimal … it’s hard with family who do not understand minimalism
STOP
If I could always buy it again, I’d be able to let it go- but I can’t even find this quality of item available if I did have 86% more to spend on a lower quality replacement due to inflation. This is so dumb.
It's really for your brain to accept getting rid of stuff you honestly do not need anymore. That's how I dealt with giving away all the children's books I gave away (kept many because I'm not a minimalist 😂).
This was a great video. Always full of nuggets. Keep up the great work.
You can hear echo in this cold empty house.
They will have no friends either. They have no extra for guests. No extra blankets or towels. No extra for earthquake emergency.
I feel for minimalists that get a lot of gifts or presents, such as if they are a school teacher. A friend gave me a nice travel crossbody purse that I don't really like. I can't donate it because she might ask about it, and I don't want to lie or tell her that I donated it. Normally, if there's a big life event, I ask people NOT to get me any presents, and that includes live plants. If they want to take me to lunch, that's fine, but I don't want any items that I have to store someplace and then worry about decluttering.
I’m the same. I tell people I only want consumables such as food or drink, or flowers. No potted plant to cause me ongoing work and stress. 😅
Easy for me: Out with the OLD in with the NEW; I love new things; such a refresher :)
Mine is what I know I spent on an item, those are the hardest to get rid of for me
Love your channel....and this video! 🌺🌺🌺
sentimental stuff is the most difficult for me. I went a route that I think many folks do. 1 I got rid of trash first. I never was like a TV reality show level Hoarder, but definitely the average American level hoarder. May be even a little worse than average, but definitely bad enough that I did absolutely have some trash mixed in with my stuff at the darkest point in my life. Second, I got rid of everything that I knew I would never use, I did not like having and was just in the way. This gave me enough breathing room to start questioning that which was left. I have over the last several years very slowly reduced my possessions kind of like going on a very slow diet. Just like diet and exercise, I eventually started kind of sculpting my life. But I still have that stubborn belly fat - Excessive sentimental junk. I almost see it exactly like that. I see being minimal like being physically fit. Right now, it is like I am kind of in shape, but would like to be more like an athlete, and for that I think I will need to really work on reducing the quantity of my sentimental stuff.
The thing I learned is to not buy something "for future use"..only buy stuff you have an IMMEDIATE need for. Refund it if you can in the event you find it was not really needed.
Great and entertaining video, thank you!
100 percent true. Thank you
Love this video, it was very helpful!
I felt this haha. So true, our brains are definitely good at getting stuck in survival mode. Great video - I look forward to more - instant sub from me :D
Find a way
What about if you can’t afford to buy another one?
He will have no friends. Can't have guests over. He has no extra blankets or towels. He has none for them for earthquake emergency. Minimum is not that great.🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
I wish I had 😢
No lamps on the bedside tables?
Lol grandma breaking in 😂
Your bedroom isn't black anymore! Would love an updated home tour since you're changing it up again.
Yup we painted it all white…. That was the most time consuming project ever 😂😂
@@TheArmsteadFamily I bet! Many coats!
LOL!!!!! Love your videos so helpful and entertaining
Amazing video. ❤
The thing is now I am needing stuff I hoarded. Because I'm short of money so now I can use stuff up.
He is totally f if he has guests. No extra none thing. No extra blankets or towels. He is totally f. No friends can visit them. They will also have no friends.
Bon pour être honnête, je ne comprends pas vos paroles à 100 % mais votre intention oui😂❤ belle famille😊
I have hundreds of cds dvds I need to get rid
Keypoint.... If you didn't use it for a while you don't need it.
An air compressor is a bad decision?
I’m ngl I can’t live w out my portable air compressor, I have to refill my tires like all the time. It’s also hella useful to keep in my car for the cases of flat tires and yes there’s been quite a few where it has saved my ass lol!
Minimum is not good. Think about it. Human need stuff ok. It makes us happy ok. He is totally f if he has guests visiting them. They have no extra blankets or towels. No friends to help out for earthquake emergency.
Hello from Ukraine🤗Like your videos 💛💙
Haven't used in three months you throw it away? Have you heard of seasons 😂it would be plain stupid to buy new coat and boots every year
alright you got me - I´m selling my ps2
😂
X1.75
Wrong. I have had things that I hadn't used in a couple of years and started using them again (things worth 100's of dollars). Although, in all fairness, not all advice is going to resonate the same with everyone. The rest of what he said has been said previously by others many, many times in books articles, videos, and podcasts.
IMHO He seems like a sincere and genuine enough guy, but nothing new here, folks.
Elementary
Not for earthquake emergency. U need ton of stuff for earthquake emergency ok. He has no extra for earthquake emergency guests. No blankets or towels. Minimum is not that great. Think about it people. Use u f brain. He will not have any friends over soon. He has no extra dish or bowl to put they food in. This minimum s hit is only half good.
Yep. I find clothing I havnt worn in years. Then I'll wear it constantly for a season. It is hard to know what is useful to keep and what has lost its purpose.
I love gifts but most of the gifts are something l want or need. WHY YOU SAY because they asked me what is the item l needed or wanted for a gift [like favourite food that l love to eat, money that l put away for a larger purchase item etc.] WE SHOULD BE TRUTHFUL and honest…if everyone took the time to find out what your family member or friend wanted or need WE would not support all the land fields, value villages, and stores by purchasing things [STUFF] that is not wanted or needed [ wasteful shopping ] not to mention the time wasted or wrapping it up this paper is also wasteful 😢
Ugh. What a bleak home. Poor kids.
No guests. Cause no extra plates or bowls. He can't help anyone for earthquake emergency. He has no extra ob any thing. He has no extra blankets or towels. Minimum is only half good. Use u f brain people. People brainwash by this f s hit minimum. People use tools during cave man age. People will always needs stuff ok. Stop being childish everyone. Be responsible and get u stuff u need for earthquake emergency.
True. Kid will always be messy. It is ok. It makes them smarter. Colorful homes make everyone happy. Look. He will have no friends.
That echo is annoying
A car that u dont use anymore? 😮 dang ! Why not declutter the car? 😅
Nice video tho thanks!
I actually did… 2 videos before this one!
