Fantastic. So many people think knives, axes or blades of some kind when they hear the word blacksmith....In my opinion, THIS type of blacksmithing is much more interesting! Out with forged in fire, In with Crafted in Coal!!
I started blacksmithing with an interest in forging knives which quickly turned into a bigger interest in artistic blacksmithing work. I do want to make a few knives / swords in the future.
Trenton Tye of Purgatory Ironworks is trying to do exactly that! He is getting something going with that format called black iron, a show more focused on traditional blacksmithing!
They're both equally important in their own way. I know a lot of blacksmiths that can't make a knife and vise versa. Farriers are amazing with a hammer and steel but most couldn't make a knife if they tried. Speaking from experience as someone who's been on forged in fire and teach blacksmithing at local schools.
I don't comment often , As blacksmithing is only my hobby. I am a retired boiler maker in Australia and I watch You Tube videos for Ideas on how to do make things . And I would like to say Watching you young man has been a good learning experience to me so thank you for the inspiration and keep up the spectacular work you do . Cheers.
Very cool, personally I like the combination of welding / riveting and smithing on the same piece. The oiling looks like the most satisfying part just about . .
Fantastic work! This shows why hand-forged items aren’t cheap. You really got the face right. It’s easy to get one eye a bit out of place. Putting the oil on hot - or burning it with a little torch (or in the forge) can give a nice long lasting black finish.
Fair enough. Your finish looks excellent. I had problem as you with drift getting stuck, and I realised that I needed to stop hitting them when the workpiece cool down a little bit. Doing it in two or three goes seemed to work a lot better for me.
Great looking dragon!! If you want to quiet your anvil without fiddeling around with magnets, I recommend to put alt least 2 layerys of bituninous sheetings between anvil and stand. it will compensate any small differences of hight. The anvil will settle down by a short time. The bituninous sheetings will damp the ringing noise pretty good. best wishes Christoph
You have a great talent for this type of forge work, I'm glad I found your channel, I do a little forge work myself and I can say that you make a very challenging art look easy, great job! I'm glad you are keeping the original sounds instead of putting music on your videos. Keep up your good work.
Fantastic work ! Probably one of the best looking dragons I have seen . I'm a farrier so I don't tend to do much other forge work .. but I want to try this ! Lovely punch work
Bravo! I recently started getting into various heads lol. Ive previously done alot of skull pendants and flat demon/goulish heads, but now that I'm at the point where I feel comfortable selling some my work, I want to incorporate these into the hook sets I do. Really love hes holding the candles. I wanna do something similar for my alter. I was thinking riveting on arms and legs and making a tail to hold the candle. 🍻
That is very cool! I appreciate you showing the couple of things that didn't go just quite right... I was thinking where his head cracked at the twist, you could have done some sort of collar with a little chain going down to the bracket... really cool project!
oh, no! an angle grinder...it would have been hand-crankec in Viking times...and welding, without a dragon.. nice sculpting on the eyed and "face" but, I was upset a bit with welding and power tools.... nice design, looks great.
Tacka så mycket Torbjörn, som vanligt du gjorde bra. I önskar komma till Sverige och träffa dig, och möjligen köpa en av dina master mästerverk. Bahram CTH V79
Looks great and is much more interesting than making knives (as somebody pointed out). Still, I have a question about the finish - you used some oil on cold finished piece. Is it needed to repeat it after some time? I thought so far that e.g. using bees wax on hot iron causes that it kind of burns and makes some protecting layer that holds in interier forever. What about your finish, how does that behave? Thank you.
The finish held up great for the time I hade it (a couple months, it got sold) The steel was probably warm / slightly hot when I applied the oil but I can't remember.
that's what i would call "beautiful blacksmithing", you gave all the beauty trough your hands and knowledge, no bullshit, no fancy tools. How did you come up with that process ? if someone asked me to make him a dragon head i'd be scratching my head for a while
@@ForgedInHolland well your take on it is nothing i've seen before, and it looks really good (it seems to take quite a while to pull out of the workshops tho. Do you mind if i try to replicate it?
simply from a visual viewpoint (that's almost syntactical redundancies!), it's a lovely piece! is it completely your own design, or inspired by an old Nordic piece? anyway, now to follow the smithinh part!
Really nice dragon, when you put the nails in the hands I'm going no no no dont weld it, a hand forged nail heat the hand and drive in the nail, shrinkage would have held it forever, just saying still very nice
Came out looking great. I really like the fullering of the horns prior to cutting
Thanks John.
Learned a lot from you.

agree ther i so much more you can do with hot metal
One is bladesmithing and one is blacksmithing.

I love your work holding jig in the vice. I have to build myself a jig just like it!

That there is a whole lot of time, work, and creativity. Looks amazing!
Are you kidding me! Your project was amazing. You have inspired me...
Thank you.
Good luck with your blacksmithing!
The craftsmanship on this is awesome! I really liked the slight tilt of the head. Have it character. Well done!
Quite the artist. That was amazing to watch.
Very nicely done, including the decision to weld the head on more securely. Thanks for the inspiration!
Glad you liked it.
My daughter would absolutely love that.
That is by far the best dragon set up I have seen yet thank you Great job.!
Thanks

Sometimes I like a the shiny finish of the metal more than a burned black oil finish.

Decent work. Best I have seen in a while.
Beautiful dragon! Thanks for sharing that

Or just use a magnet
Great work man! I loved how when you were using the grinder or saw, the RUclips captions said it was "music" playing lol. Good music to me🍻
Amazing! Great job with the beautiful dragon but also an excellent job with camera work and editing.
Thank you.
Super cool
Loved that project, really enjoyed watching the video xx
That is gorgeous. Makes me want to give it a try.

Талантливая работа, супер 🔥👍
It's Mushu! ;) Seriously good work, mate!

AWESOME build. Thanks for sharing!

Cheers m8.
👏🏼 love your setup and your techniques! And the end result!
Спасибо за видео, очень мне нравятся дракон в твоём исполнении👍
That is sooo cool i been looking into some chisels. There are only so many knives i can make 😅

Espectacular,Felicitaciones !!!
Really cool build 👍👍
IMPRESIONANTE, IMPECABLE !
Realmente una obra de arte en todo sentido. Admiro el arte de forjar.
Sslud !
This is way cool I'm saving this one for later. Awesome work, Thanks for sharing....
That is very cool! I appreciate you showing the couple of things that didn't go just quite right...

Outstanding brother 👏. Thanx for sharing 👏
Excellent work need to see more now
The only thing I would do differently is set it in my house. 🤣Wow! You are extremely talented.
Thanks.
It is currently standing on the dining table.
@@ForgedInHolland Keep up the great work.

nice sculpting on the eyed and "face"
but, I was upset a bit with welding and power tools.... nice design, looks great.
The trick to put silicone under the anvil and under the anvil holder on the floor seems to work good against ringing and bouncing.
Класс все вопросы за одно видео решены и фишка со сваркой класс большое уважение мастеру
Мне тоже👍👍👍 понравилось

Really nice.
Goed gedaan jochie❤!!!
i was going to comment on your forging with no shirt on... then i noticed your fly was open.... :) Anywhoo, good job! this helped me out a bunch!
Glad you enjoyed the video.
I forge without a shirt in the summer when it is hot outside.
I have had zero problems with burning myself so far.
that's what i would call "beautiful blacksmithing", you gave all the beauty trough your hands and knowledge, no bullshit, no fancy tools.
How did you come up with that process ? if someone asked me to make him a dragon head i'd be scratching my head for a while
Originally I learned to forge dragon heads from RUclips.
This design is a combination of a lot of things I learned along the way and is unique to me.
@@ForgedInHolland well your take on it is nothing i've seen before, and it looks really good (it seems to take quite a while to pull out of the workshops tho.

Hi very good work my friend could i ask how long was that 20x20 square bar please thanks Andy
Brilliant!
Amazing, I just started to fouling around whit the forge. Greetings from Holland to 👍
very nicely done ! great work
Nicely done!
Outstanding! You are incredibly talented. Kudos!
Très beau travail ! merci pour la vidéo !!
Looks awesome 👍
simply from a visual viewpoint (that's almost syntactical redundancies!), it's a lovely piece!
is it completely your own design, or inspired by an old Nordic piece?
anyway, now to follow the smithinh part!
That temporary base should be good for fifty years.
It would probably last manny lifetimes.
It is only not practical / stylish at all.
Incredible!
amazing!
Nice work, some back legs would help it to stand without the bracket? Thanks!
Theoretically, could you use the technique for the claws to forge in a gemstone?
Probably.
The stone might crack, not sure.
Glass might also work.
Awesome work thank you
Blessings of your hands
very nice!
Geniaal... bedankt voor de inspiratie!
Geen probleem!
you are creative man
a Masterpiece
Now you have to make a Samurai Jack against him.
Nice project!
Que trabajo mas hermoso felicidades
100 procent Hand works werry nice
Amazing! What material you use for your chisels?
For my cutting chisel I use H11 and for the rest mostly spring steel.
4/5”, never heard that one before
Do you have a cover over your work station or do you just work straight outside?
I work straight outside.
If it rains I have to wait ;)
Well done sir!
Thank you.

Fantastic
Молодец, Золотые руки!!!
Почему задние лапы у дракона не сделаны?
Так бы лучше смотрелось. Не доделал.
А работа красивая!
awesome 👌
👍👍
Молодец...... Неплохо получилось, но с крыльями было бы круче чувак
Cool
Jim from utrecht
So gothic i like
This is absolutely amazing! About how long do you think you spent on it?
Thank you, I think about 20 hours.
