It takes place during the Spanish Golden age :) I think its mid 1500! loved your review.I believe she collaborated with historians to make it as accurate as possible, she also did personal research bc the story is inspired by her family history.I felt the same about the middle and found alternating between the audiobook and on my kindle and that made it easier!

Yess!!! Which I really appreciated her for. Sounds like we had very similar thoughts. I love that!

I'm currently reading this one at the moment, and while the specific year isn't mentioned, I do believe they mention Phillip II is the King of Spain - so that would place the events here in the latter half of the 16th Century, more specifically following 1588, as they made a veiled reference to the destruction of the Spanish Armada against England's "Whore Queen", which would have been Protestant Elizabeth I, as the previous Queen, Mary I (deceased 1558), was actually the first wife of Phillip II ... Yes, I am a MAJOR history nerd.. which is why I have been so excited for this book, and to hear your thoughts on it because I also couldn't get into 6 of Crows, and did not like 9th House. But History, that's my jam!!!

I bet you are loving this if history is your jam. Make sure you read the note at the end, it's short but she does talk more about her inspiration and you're right on the dot with it. Very cool to hear some of these things thanks for giving me added context. I hope you enjoy the book all the way through, that ending is going to split people lol

Well after LOVING Ninth House, I will definitely be picking this up after I get through Hell Bent 👍🏽
Addie LaRue "boring" in the middle?! {{Clutch the Pearls}} Not a boring section in that masterpiece 😉

I would love to see what you think of this. Especially how you like or don’t like the historical aspects!

Really? For me it was the ending that I didn't like. It seem too simple, too fast... I was waiting all the time for a final plot twist and I was surprised that was it. I thought oh all that drama just to cut it and wrap it up here really quickly. A pity cause I really liked the first half of the book.

This wasn’t on my TBR (the cover is stunning but gives me thriller vibes and my tolerance for anything scary is the first entry into the Fold at the beginning of Shadow & Bone 😅) but your review has me intrigued! I enjoyed Addie LaRue so this may be something to read when that similar mood hits

haha I get that you want to be careful with scary things. I would say this is an intense book at parts but not "horrific," that's probably not helpful though lol I'm happy to answer any questions about it if that would help you! I do think fans of Addie LaRue will enjoy this.

Shadow and bone series were all 5 stars for me, so I did pick this book up, even though it doesn't sound like something I'd really care for.. couldn't get into six of Crows either

I hope you end up enjoying this one! I would say it feels like an adult Shadow and Bone at times.

I could never get into her books. I just don’t vibe with her writing style sadly. I tried reading The Familiar and I DNF at 20%.

Oh good, I did not like The Ninth House either! The cover was fabulous, as is this cover, but I didn't jive with the story. This one sounds promising, so I might check it out.

Yeah I was not a fan of Ninth House as well as much as I wanted to be. This does feel like Leigh Bardugo but also feels like a completely different story if that makes sense.
