She used a cannula and only half a syringe of filler for a natural result. She injected right into the folds as opposed to filling the cheek area for an overall lift because I'm young enough that my cheeks have enough volume and any more would look strange. I gotta say I'm happy I did it. Even though nobody has even noticed a difference, I feel much better about how mine look. It’s very easy to tell where your facial artery is on your face pertaining to the nasolabial fold. Since the artery lies superficially, simply place your finger r gently above the area there and you will feel a pulsating beat from blood flow. Where ever you feel the beat the strongest is where your facial artery lies. Mine is medial to the nasolabial fold, so I can inject directly into my fold since my artery is lying alone the mouth.

    I have nasal labial folds that I inherited from my beautiful mum who also had the natural cheekbone structure I lack. At the age of 64 should I dive in and have one more go at being vain, I'd have actual surgery; drooping upper eyelids and a small chin implant and the rest just good skin care -- totally anecdotal, but I commented because we're all so subjective about what actually will enhance our looks. This video was really helpful for this reason. And sometimes a professional will objectively demystify our minor obsessions and pun intended, keep them in focus. Many thanks.

    I know ultrasound is used for injections of hips or to guide IV's into arteries... could a similar device be used to guide filler in the face? As a means to avoid arteries of the face.

    • @viccosmeticinstitute
      @viccosmeticinstitute  5 лет назад +19

      This is a top question. We have actually looked into using an ultrasound machine to detect facial arteries before injecting. However, the use of the machine requires some experience and training. Also it was extremely difficult to co-ordinate injecting and ultrasound. I don't know anyone who uses ultrasound to guide the needles and avoid arteries. It would be an ideal thing to do, but in the real world, it is just to difficult to co-ordinate.

    Dr. Chan is indeed very honest about the risks that fillers might cause. Buy I think it is very important to communicate these risks in terms of statistics. I have read, but of course this information could be partial or wrong, that these disastrous complications caused by filler amount to a total of 0,3 % throughout the world and that they are mostly cause by fat injections. Also, it would be important to know who practiced these injections: were they very experienced professionals or maybe aesteticians who had some experience with friends and family? My dermatologists told he has been doing fillers for 30 years, without using micro cannulas, and he never had a single complication of this kind.
    So it is very true that the risk exists and, if someone doesn't really need a treatment in the nasolabial area, doctors should definitely put on the table the possible negative consequences of using fillers in that area.
    However, is the statistics of 0,3% cases is accurate that would be less than the risk of being in a place crush.
    In general, I think all medical procedures should be explained in these terms.
    Of course, these kind of procedures are not life saving, thus I understand risking an eye for having a temporary result on the folds is utterly crazy, however for some people wrinkles, or deep wrinkles, in that area might be perceived as serious deformity on their face, which causes serious depression.
    Rhinoplasty is probably the most requested type of surgery and I believe the risks associated with that procedure are much higher that getting a dermal filler, because it involves anesthesia. And yet, I believe no surgeon will refuse to operate on a seriously crooked nose or even a nose that alters the person's overall appearance.
    Dr. Chan himself says that this kind of problems never occured to him ever and his experience is surely of high volume of patients and many years as a practitioner.
    I would very much appreciate if Dr. Chan could say something about " numbers" , as statistics played such a major role in our decisions: we go out of the house, drive the car, travel on planes because if statistics. Thank you.

    Over 10 years ago, a nurse hit my artery when injecting the nasolabial folds. She made a real mess of it but fortunately the filler didn't get into the artery. The needle irritated it and has seemed to bring the artery to the surface so I see a pulse under the skin in 2 places which is much more prominent when it is hot. Dr Chan, is there anything that can be done about this or anyway it can look less noticeable? Thank you, L

      I'm sorry, I can't say I have ever heard of this before . might be worth getting an ultrasound to see if there is a problem with your artery?

    Excellent info in your videos, thank you. Totally agree. I once had the naso lines filled at the strong suggestion of my dr, an eye surgeon. Lines were not deep and didn't bother me, but there was left over restylane from doing the under-eye tear troughs and wanted to use it up.
    So the dr filled the naso area; it had an odd pushing-down effect on my mouth that was not good at all. Beforehand, I had a normal looking mouth area; slight uplift at the corners, short upper lip, a natural pout you coud say. After the naso injections, my mouth went horizontal/straight eg., a letterbox mouth. Ugh! I've seen this look on reality TV celebs. Not a good look and even worse, it lasted for a year!

    another great video
    aside from not realising how potentially dangerous it can be, mine are part of my face furniture 🤣
    part of my natural facial landscape, as you mentioned
    i get botox for my tramlines on my forehead, another natural feature of my face that i have had since i was very young, from constantly raising my eyebrows - botox has really improved my appearance (incidentally i never suffered from the classic 11s from knitting my brows together. i don’t and never have had that issue
    i have had practitioners suggest filler for my nasoblasial folds, but i never really felt the need
    you can usually tell if someone has had it done, very flat faced. it’s like some injectors don’t appreciate that some people's faces are made that way

    I had bellafill in Nasolabial Folds two years ago and nothing bad happened, after watching this vid I was concerned that would it be an issue for the future? I would only use hydraulic filler from now on

    Is there still a risk after months that the filler is already in ?
    So let’s say I had this kind of filler twice and the last time was in February is there months later still a risk that the filler goes in to an artery that leads to the eyes or else?

    • @viccosmeticinstitute
      @viccosmeticinstitute  5 лет назад +5

      no, it is only at the time of injection. Once it is in, it won't float into the artery after some time.

    Thank u Dr!! It is much better to know all the benefits and risks of a procedure. Also ur videos are such a great help for patients and fellow drs. Very educational thank u!
    Is it possible when doing fillers ti aspire a bit first with the syringe in order to see if blood comes out? Would it be an indication of hitting an artery? I pass all ur videos to a friend who is a dr.
    Cheers!!

    • @viccosmeticinstitute
      @viccosmeticinstitute  5 лет назад +1

      Yes you can try aspirating. But there are two main issues with this that can lead to a false negative response. These are moving the needle after a negative aspiration and going into a blood vessel, and the fact that most fillers are too thick to allow aspiration.

      But, you would aspire BEFORE injecting the fillers, wouldn't you? Otherwise what's the point of aspiring? Thanks.

    I completely understand that facial artery is danger zone however as long as one doesn't inject close to the bone, it should work out?

    • @kathrinbergmann9539
      @kathrinbergmann9539 5 лет назад

      With linear technique?

    • @viccosmeticinstitute
      @viccosmeticinstitute  5 лет назад +4

      The artery doesn't run on the bone, it is in the subcutaneous (fat layer) plane. There are many ways to avoid the facial artery, and each principle should be adhered to, including; using a cannula, going perpendicular to the artery, going at depths where the artery doesn't reside, injecting very slowly, moving whilst injecting.

    • @viccosmeticinstitute

      As a previous user of threadlifts, I have found them not to be very effective as well as any slight effect that you do get is not very long lasting. But if they did work, yes they would reduce nasolabial folds
