I’m 65 this February and married 45 years this April. I loved every minute of this video of you and your wife building this project. It’s not often you can build lasting memories like this. This one you both will remember each time you look at the table. What a joy.
Wow! She really rocked it! My absolute favorite episode. Would love to see more duo vids like these. I learned so much from this one. Technique, approach to the tools, etc. & YOUR PATIENCE with her was awesome. Thanks!
Thank you!!
You and your wife did a great job together.
Thank you!!
Taylor did a fantastic job!!🎉🎉
Wow! She did an awesome job!! And, your patience was also awesome!! Love to see more of these! Good stuff!
Thanks for watching!!
That joke of 'ripping what is thick' rocks. Good sense of humor besides her other qualities 😊
Absolutely love the idea of you showing a complete beginner how to do stuff. Hearing you explain the details of how to do things is invaluable.
Wish I could’ve included more, video would’ve been several hours long! haha
@@JohnBuildsIt ha ha. I’m sure. It’s really nice to hear a RUclipsr explain things that never make it in to a normal build video. Or to see little details - like how you explained that your black workbench top is square and when you assembled the base for the first time it was out of square by 1/8” so you moved it and clamped it to be square with your workbench. Those little details are so helpful! When I watch videos like yours it seems like everything is perfect every time and you never have to make little adjustments like that.
your wife is funny!!! I like that . . .and I really appreciate your wife's willingness to be with you in the shop and learning this craft that will serve her for a lifetime. . . . you should get her some gloves to protect her soft hands!
Wow! Your wife is amazing! It's not always easy to learn a skill from your spouse (either direction). She simply showed NO fear and did a great job! (I've been doing some of what she did for 4 years now, and I still get a little apprehensive facing those powerful tools. (No, I did not learn from my husband. We just think completely differently, but RUclips videos like yours have been my friend.)
Really cool to have your missus in the shop. No idea how much training she had before this video, but she doesn’t appear to be completely green. I really hope to get my wife to participate one day.
She had used the table saw once before for a couple cuts, other than that it was her first time on everything haha definitely surprised me too!
This is a life goal to have my wife building projects with me. Good job y'all.
Your wife did a brilliant job making the table and bench with your help. Of course, I hope she is able to make something else next time
First of all, the table and bench is beautiful! I've been into woodworking projects for the last 7 years and I often find videos such as yours to be very helpful. Thank you for sharing this project. It has inspired me to make the very same table and bench myself. Looking forward to more of your videos.
Thank you!!
You're extremely fortunate that your wife is willing to learn and use all of the tools required for this. I learned a long time ago to get my wife involved in almost all of the projects that she wanted me to do, just to see what was involved. Not surprisingly, the project volume has come down significantly over the years. - Chris
Haha I’m sure!
That hilarious!
One of your best videos so far! Funny moments and good to see some tips along the way.
Great video! I showed my wife this, as she is a teacher as well. I told her we need to build a table together and she laughed. She said to me, you can just build it for me lol.
Haha I was surprised how excited she was to keep working on it every chance she could!
Really great looking table and bench. Great to see you both had an interest in getting the project completed. Loved the video. I hope to see more of the same in the future.
Taylor, what a great job you did. I helped my daughter and son-in-law refurbish a 1972 Airstream this past summer and you reminded me of her the way you jumped right in and weren't afraid to use the power tools and learn new skills. Now don't be surprised if you get the itch to make something else, because this is how it all starts. You'll always remember the 1st project you worked on (I still do and I'm 65 now and my 1st project was in shop class in high school when I was 15). Well done!!!
Thanks for watching!!
You both did a great job. You prepared a significant project ( not just a cutting board) and explained everything in the process and kept her safe. She just jumped right in and listened to you and followed directions. I am sure this will bring you two closer together. She can appreciate more what you do and has a sense of accomplishment for herself. She did almost all of the labor. She can get some feeling for what you do and why and see how complex things can be and the need for vorrect procedures. I think more couples should try to do something similar.
This was really good. Great job Taylor & John!
She's a quick learner! Pretty good job for her! I love so much your videos. Hugs from Mexico.
Taylor you did better on your build than most of us… ok, speaking for myself here… have done on our 10th and 11th builds. Awesome job. 👍👍
Taylor you did a fantastic job building this! It looks great! Hopefully there are more build projects in your future!
Taylor rocked it! From the shirt she was wearing "TEACH" guessing she's a teacher. She sure nailed it as a student. Sure beats my first project in jr high school!
This was impressive! I love videos like these where you take someone with zero experience and the result is something like what you see here.
Thanks for watching!!
Great looking table Tyler for the win
Ahh and the student becomes the master! Love it!
Nice set! Cool that you guys could work together. I hope you do more projects together.
Thanks for watching!!
This is a beautiful piece! I really like the contrast. Nice work, both of you.
Thank you!!
You both did a fantastic job !!!
Rip them lol - awesome! She's got good humor 😂
I'd never be able to talk my wife into this. You've got a trooper there! Must be the teaching background (being teachable)
Good point, she was great!
Wish my wife liked woodworking as much as I do
Loved the idea. Many new woodworkers have questions that experts wouldn't even think about.
And she's funny, try to be funny back, lmao.
I am the funny one 😂 she was catching me off guard there haha
John, your wife is awesome! And beautiful. I'm jealous. She is doing a great job!
Taylor did awesome on all aspects of that build and she can be proud of what she created. John you did ok I guess. LoL
😂😂
She handles those machines like a pro!
I know right!? Natural lol
Taylor you are a trooper! You did an amazing job and showed no fear of all those power tools, not sure I could have done that! John, great job walking her through the steps, kudos to both of you for having patience with one another! And Taylor I loved your sense of humor throughout the video! Beautiful table built by a beautiful couple! 🥰
Wife did great, very nice table.
My wife just wants to clean if she comes in the shop. Power tools make her nervous. Very impressive work for a first timer!
Taylor did ask if she should sweep after almost every step 😂
I’m impressed with Taylor not being intimidated with the jointer and table saw. The table turned out great. John you did a really good job of explaining “ how to “ with the tools. Y’all have a table and bench to last a while and a memory to last a lifetime.
Yea that definitely surprised me!
Well done both of you
Thanks!!
This is how it starts Taylor! You will want your own shop soon.
Also, I downloaded a calculator that is set up to do fractions. I don't do math well at all and it's helped immensely!
Nice job! Great to partner with your wife to get this done!
Great patient instruction. Show us more.
🙌🏼🙌🏼
I love this!! My wife has helped me several times in the shop. She's not really interested in woodworking at all, but we did enjoy the activity together.
Awesome man!
That was a great watch. Well done to your better half on her first table. Great job.
Thank you!!
Great video. She was brave to use the table saw.
It's great bringing your spouse out to get a feel for the amount of work and experience that goes into a project. She did a great job and the table is beautiful!
Thanks man!
And she now knows that he's not goofing around out there! All the repetitive actions to get things right. 😄
Great job Wife and John. Turned out really nice.
Great video. I have been diy wood projects for some time and still learn a couple of things. The fact that you were teaching your wife was fantastic. l hope to see more of this.
Thank you!!
This was a great watch and turned out really well! Taylor did an awesome job!
Awesome job
Great job, both of you. I’ve been woodworking for decades and taught the subject to intercity students for years making 800 beds
You did a good job instructing and your wife was very patient with you too
Fabulous project with a great variety of machine skill sets
Congratulations on a beautiful outcome
Thank you!!
A wunderful table. I like this table. And your beautiful wife. I like it when man and woman together working. ;-) I whish me she in more videos to see, please. :-)
John lol there were times Taylor had a look on her face as if it was Tax Time.
She did a really good job. I was impressed on how she handled the table saw.
Haha I noticed that too!
Excellent!
she did an amazing job. Just the fact that everything had perfect seams. Great job explaining and walking her through.
Thanks for watching!!
Always interesting with the spouse in the shop
Taylor you did an amazing job for your first time using and learning how the tools work and not being intimidated by them and John you did an amazing job explaining how to use them and do things and why and most of all being patient with your wife learning all these new things the table came out amazing. So many great memories doing that together. 🙏🏻🙏🏻👏👏
Thank you!!
Great job on the table. I especially liked the contrasting colors (natural wood finish for the top and jet black aprons and legs). Very nice. Thanks for sharing.
Great video. Your wife did super well, especially with the spraying. Well done
for someone who's never used tools she had excellent technique and no fear. I expect you will be substituting in her class one day to pay her back and she will have a good laugh at that. although she did seem like she was being punished by having to do all that it's great that she got a peek into your world.
I wouldn’t last an hour in her 2nd grade classroom 😂
Awesome build & my wife wouldn't dare step foot in my shop. You are right that clamps are a hell of an investment when you're beginning. I remember saving all my rebates from Menards to buy an Irwin Parallel clamp lol
Haha literally just used some Menards rebates on clamps!
Well, first thing I’d like to say to your wife is, you did an AWESOME job! ESPECIALLY for a newbie. And I also noticed how quick you, after being given instructions, to correct everything he told you to - a quick learner! With that said, you also had a good teacher. I consider myself a beginner to intermediate woodworker, and have been getting ready to launch into table making. You guys and this video have helped to give me all the confidence I need to go ahead and take the plunge. Thank you! Liked and SUBSCRIBED
Thank you!!
Hey John I've been watching your channel for a little while now. That was a very good idea to include your wife and I'm sure it will help many people. Idk what kind of time you too have available but you guys should consider making a series of build videos from beginner and up. Great job Taylor
I’m sure we’ll do more! 👍🏽
Thanks John, that was fun to watch love the way your wife was all in. Hope you do this again and make another great project as you always do.
I think we will!
Awesome! No way my wife and I do a project like that so calmly. Over/under of the first F bomb would be 5 minutes!!!
😂😂
LOVE those Jessem stock guides! I also used the mag locks and a 3/4” piece of plywood. Really appreciated you highlighting this tool on your other video. One of the best additions I've made in a long time.
Absolutely!!
Super cool great way to spend time together. Great job Taylor.
👍🏻fantastic video really enjoyed watching, your wife is a trooper and you are a very patient teacher. That together table came out really nice. You really do have a nice work shop and tools.
Thank you!!
That was really fun to watch, John. Taylor did a great job - you can see the level of concentration on her face. A great looking table and bench was simply the bonus. More of this would be great!
Thanks Phil!
She did great! The workbench I built from your channel turned out great! Thanks brother.
Awesome!!
Fun video.
Nice job
This was a great video.
Thank you!
Great project ❤
Well done to both you and your wife - good video!!
I personally liked the Rip joke your wife made haha
😂😂
That was a very nice video! That table and bench turned out great! Hope you and your wife will do another one! She did an excellent job! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!!
What a boss. New channel name: John used to build it.
😂😂
@@JohnBuildsIt awesome video! I bet a lot of channels are going to do this now. That was great!
She did an awesome job. First time is always scary but she handled great!! Plus she fine AF. No disrespect John😊
This turned out great! Awesome job Taylor!
Love the video. Great to see you guys work together. There is actual respectful human interaction. Imagine that in today's world of "social" media. Also it is obvious that you guys do get along but its a great example that one can give and other receive instruction-s about something without feeling pressured and bossed around. 👍👍👍 Happy New Year
Thank you! Happy new year!
Great job! Beautiful table!
I really enjoyed this video. How lucky to be able to learn to make things in such a great shop!
Yea she was spoiled in that regard! Haha
Very nice . One of the best videos you have made ! !
Thank you!!
Excellent job, you two. I appreciate the loving patience and respect you both hold for each other (the teacher for the apprentice and the apprentice for the teacher).
I wish my spouse would want to be even remotely involved or interested in doing a project together. But knowing how we are, the only background you’d hear (even over the tool noise) would be us bickering. 😂
So, kudos to you both for having such an excellent rhythm and compatible woodshop personalities. 👍
Thanks man I appreciate it!
good job
Wow, awesome job!
Kool wife😊
“Wait, these are two pieces of wood” she says just after she just glued them together herself 😂😂 she knows what she is doing haha
😂blonde moment. Truly was hard to tell though lol
@@JohnBuildsIt she did great!! Many seasoned professionals would struggle
Way to go Taylor!
Now…tell her the real price of those tools hahaha.
No seriously, my wife and I spend a lot of time building together in the shop, and while I could get twice as much done in half the time, I’ll never stop loving the time we build together. Even if I have to explain why we’re doing something so small for the 5th time. And big props to your wife….women in shops has proven to make more interesting and beautiful things!
That’s awesome man!
Fantastic Guy's but watch out John, Taylor looks & sounds like she'll be moving you right on out of HER workshop LOL 😆
awesome video!!
Thank you!
@9:55 See, get her interested in making projects that need lots of calmps, then hide half of them... "sorry dear, if we only had more clamps..." Now she knows what to get you for gifts :)
Genius!
I'll bet Taylor loved the 3 weeks bit. Are you off the couch yet?
👍🏽😂
When is she starting a channel ? I'm ready to subscribe. Very good job.
too cute. Nice that you could do a project together, but I think she is going to become and advocate of the metric system to her students now.
😂 I couldn’t believe that!
Great video! Taylor is a natural especially using some of the more intimidating machines! The tables turned out nice 👍 keep the content coming. Did you find the glue roller? Lol
No I haven’t! Haha
