      Ceilings were kept low at the time because there was no central heating or air. If they lit a fire the rooms could be closed up and the room would stay warm longer. That's why there were so many closed off rooms with doors as well.

      A 120 year old house typically would have much higher ceilings. This kitchen was remodeled in recent decades. 120 years ago there wasn't drywall or laminate counter tops. The house may be that old, but the kitchen has seen at least one remodel.

    John we are doing a semi remodel after building our home 18 yrs ago. Two young people, me in Banking, hubby a Diesel Mechanic, no internet to help us with great tips like yours, my hubby is a handy man he did everything in our home except put it under roof. The rest we did on our own it took us 15 months to move in working long nights.
    I just wanted to tell you that you have gave us great ideals to our little remodel. Thank You I subscribe to your channel!

    I’m sure the island was built to specs for the owner. I had the type like this one, that had the higher bar. I got SO tired of the different height and replaced it with one counter height top when I could afford it. The kitchen is so beautiful!
