Basically the "middle child syndrome" - I can't speak for boy groups but since I stan CSJH The Grace I notice there's a gap between SES, FinKL, BoA, other gen 1 because they were the first so they're well documented. Then the dark ages where there were no girl groups for real, then CSJH, then quickly SNSD. After SES and FinKL disbanded, people may mention BoA's successes in SK/JP but then skip to Into the New World or Gee for SNSD. Early 2000s kpop is so good.
Mama by EXO played a big part in me getting into kpop and for this I'm grateful. SM isn't perfect, but they show through their music that they know what they do
