The distinguishing factor between Taemin and Kai lies in their roles as performers and dancers within their respective teams. As centers, they are responsible for meticulously refining their presence and honing their dance skills, which necessitates spending additional time in the dance studio compared to other members. (also their solo projects are performance-based.) However, what sets them apart is their dedication to not only dance but also their vocal growth. This dual focus requires them to put in twice the effort, making their workload considerably more demanding. Thus, it can be said that they consistently demonstrate a higher level of dedication and hard work.
Taemin has never been a idle/lazy person, not even in shinee. If you see interviews with Taemin when he was very, very young and when he just debuted as a soloist, you could actually see his desire to be better at this and that, in his words. Even in an interview, Moonkyu said that when he met Taemin, he was scared at first, because of how hard-working he was. He never really rested (according to his own words), he is the most perfectionist SM artist there ever was. That is why no one in that company or in Kpop in general has had a vocal and artistic glow up that makes you say !!!WOOW! Taemin so far has been the most atypical case in terms of exponential growth in everything and became the goat of kpop.
it's impressive the level that taemin achieved, it's amazing his discipline and his ambition as an artist. in sm he is the only case of exponential growth. there has been no other after him. of course everybody gets better w time, but taemin always surprises a lot of people when they discover him for the first time and see how his story started.. and how the same man who is killing those highnotes, runs and being the most dramatic vocalist on "Guilty" was once called "tone deaf" taemin will always be the best example of talent and hard work.
taemin is an impressive thing not only as a vocalist but artistically. Guilty floored me a month ago and I still can't get over it. it's a brilliant and artistic song. kai has the potential to improve more
I think wheein is a case of how your mentality healthy affects your voice, she is a great singer who had struggled with her mental health during a period in mamamoo, we could see her losing and gaining weight quickly as well, there’s studies about our mental health and the impact in the singing voice
agreed! and she was physically ill for a long time as well. the amount of stress on her body and mind had to catch up eventually. but she really keeps getting better and better!
Taemin is the best example of 'Weakness is a choice, not an excuse.' Also I would add Seungmin from Skz too. He improved a lot in the years n continues to do so.
100%! When a company chooses to debut a super young teen whose skills aren't there yet, I blame the company (honestly this is kind of the case for Taemin, he wasn't even done with puberty yet at debut so how can they expect him to have a strong voice). However, there are so many wealthy idols that debuted 5-10 years ago who can hire whoever they want as a vocal coach. It's kind of your fault at that point if you choose to stay unskilled. Personally, I'd be pretty embarrassed to be paid that much to be a professional singer that can hardly sing.
yes, obviously its up to him who he puts in his videos but i think skz's vocal line has improved very well especially after getting their own vocal coaches. I feel like the biggest was probably Lee Know, the fact that he could barely sing on the survival show due to lack of training and now look at him
This! Because yes I understand that companies really drop the ball on vocal training but when an artist reaches a certain level of success they have the resources to better themselves. It's part of the reason I can never take blinks who defend the girls to the death seriously, like yeah YG sucks but all that time and money and they can't take a few vocal classes? It's a choice and it's one that sheds light on what artists really value, at least in my opinion.
@@rachelmaddowswife8713yep. Lee knows improvement has been amazing. Him and the vocal line have been taking classes with a coach from SM which made a lot of sense when I found out.
I still think that absolutely no one improved to Taemin's level. his debut as a soloist was earned by hard work, according taemin words; the staff watched him stay up late at night watching him practice singing. When Taemin tried so hard, he became frustrated and felt that he had reached his limit. SM entertaiment gave him the opportunity to record a demo, that demo led to his long awaited opportunity to be the 1st sm soloist of an active group to debut. After his successful debut, taemin gave way to his peers such as baek, kai, taeyong etc.. taeyeon. Taemin paved the way for solo artists in the kpop industry. taemin's story is very worthy of admiration, hopefully one day they will make a documentary about him, because the king of the industry deserves it.
It's amazing how the 14 year old taemin started out with no lines, and was bullied for it, told he couldn't sing and should just dance... and he became not only the main bone of his group in singing, dancing and performance but of the whole kpop. His ethics, faith, determination but above all discipline from day 1 was always to be admired, he never rested properly, he could only do it when he enlisted, so much so that stopping in that period was very difficult for him. he was always a workaholic. the abrupt vocal growth he had did not happen overnight, it cost him years of tears, sweat and blood (those nosebleeds). he worked harder than anyone... and he reaped glory in the years to come. That's why many idols not only admire what a top dancer/performer he is, but his hard work and determination that brought him to the status he is considered today by critics. "King of kpop" with all his letters and no wonder. proud to be fan of the legend himself.
He didn't really have a rest during his enlistment, unfortunately. Even there he was bullied and had to change to another place to finish. He gets picked on terribly wherever he goes.
Taemin has chameleon-like vocals. He is a master, he can sound like an angel and have the softest and most caramelized vocals. He can sound aggressive, he can sound sultry and above all he can sound visceral, dramatic and intense, almost leaving you on the verge of tears.. Taemin not only improved vocally, but his ability to convey emotions is the best in my opinion. the best soloist ever.
what makes taemin’s story more interesting is that he was literally denied of vocal training, they told him his voice was not made for singing and stick to dancing. he learned from his members and worked his ASS off, there’s no excuse to not improve. he will always make me proud
He wasn't denied of vocal training, he said that he was told not to practice too much in a period when his voice was changing and obviously it was dangerous but he still practiced as much as he could.
I'm so happy for whee in. 2019-2021 where hard years for her she struggled a lot with mental health and anxiety while still being active most of the time. That really affected her voice. I'm happy she is better and her voice healthier.
Not to mention she was sick sooo much physically aswell. She had sinusitis for like several months back in 2019, while they were performing at their 4s/4c concerts, were doing festivals every week, filming for queendom AND she released Goodbye. Not even half a year later she got sick with the influensa virus after basically just coming back from a half hiatus (since she was still performing on queendom), and then going straight into releasing Hip, doing promotions for that and then all the award shows. It was a busy time with basically no time to chill out and actually let her voice heal after a lot of physical and mental strain.
@@adara4635 and then she also released her solo album Redd. And at that time, Park Woo Sang say it recently in their video interview with wheein that it was the hardest time (releasing redd album) because they feel like an indie artist, even park woo sang got sick as well but has no time to break. But I'm glad both of them now not under rbw anymore, but they still working together.
Ever since I became a moomoo, I've seen people saying that she(Wheein) regressed badly, but ever since the beginning of their tour I could tell that she had gotten a lot better.
People hear that once and jump on the statement without even having the knowledge to back it up. She did regress, but that was back in 2020 and sice she has even stated herself so many times that her singing technique is very different now than it's been in the past (even if we can't hear it)
I don't follow them much, what happened to her? Did she damage her voice after being forced to shout a lot of high notes on tour or something? Snsd Taeyeon went through a period like that where she needed to rest and the others took over the highest ad libs.
@@rachelmaddowswife8713She regressed because she changed her technique to be more stylistic. She was a lot more airy, and relied on falsetto. She felt like her voice didn’t stand out as much as Solar and Hwasa and changed her style because of it thus weakening her voice
I'm so glad you started with Taemin because he really is a role model for anyone who wants to sing well or anyone who wants to actually improve their singing. He went through so much criticism, bullying, a huge lack of support, a huge lack of faith in him, and all at such a young age. Taemin was a CHILD and while he had his members support him, he was still a child facing criticism and mockery AND while going through puberty. I honestly don't know how he managed to pull through all of that, but I'm so glad his members were so supportive and protective of him. Taemin is Taemin because of all of his effort, spending hours training and taking lessons, asking Jonghyun and Onew to help him whenever he could, watching videos to learn and improve. So much work that led him to getting lots of nosebleeds. On top of that, he's STILL improving. This is what it takes to be a respected artist - people don't even have to like his music but they all respect him as an artist because of his hard work and dedication. The music industry, and the kpop industry in particular, is NOT a nice one and it's not a fair one. You see artists that can't sing that well becoming more popular and well-known, and the artists that sing incredibly well don't always go beyond Asia. That doesn't just happen in kpop - it happens everywhere. But you know what? That's life. Artists will be artists because music is their passion and their love, even if they don't ever go global. If you are not prepared to face that, you won't make it in the industry. Taemin is one of the best examples of this. He is who is he is because he believed in himself and believed that he had the potential to improve and be an artist. He has remained humble, yet always greedy for growth. He doesn't care what other people think about his dream, because that is HIS dream. I'm not a musician, but I really look up to Taemin's commitment and dedication. It always inspires me to keep wanting to learn and grow, and to keep following my dreams regardless of what the world tells me. I might fail, but at least I failed trying. And what Taemin has taught me is that even if I do fail, if it's still my dream and as long as I am committed, I should continue getting up every time I fall and keep trying. Ultimately, he taught me that while others may have more power over your career and/or dream, you, too, have power over it. Every part of the journey is worth it, and you can learn and grow through it to become a better version of yourself.
In addition to Taemin’s vocal transformation, he is the standard and complete package. He has solidified himself as a Superstar and King of Kpop based on his amazing vocals and dance, visuals, charisma, creativity, work ethics, humbleness, his absolutely unique style that is difficult to duplicate, and mesmerizing stage presence. He has a crazy vocal range- he can sound melodic/angelic and he can belt. Music critics have said that Taemin is unrivaled in the industry- there is no one like Taemin in Korea or anywhere else at the moment. So incredibly honored and proud to be his fan.
Is it normal that I started crying while you were talking about Taemin? I've been fan of him since 2014 and couldn't feel prouder about his vocal improvement over the years. I honestly love how he puts so much emotion into his singing; you can feel every emotion through his voice. I think I need an hour-long video of you talking about Taemin's talent.
Kai and Taemin are good examples of the fact that while SM tends to pick up people who are good already (like Baekhyun or Wendy), they still give their artists good training too or let them find their own coaches. SM being vocal powerhouse is not only about them picking already good vocalists as some people tend to claim.
I think it's more up to the artist if they want to improve. SM only provide the tools/teachers. Taemin and kai were initially contracted mostly to dance, and sm would probably let them continue like that but they themself strived to improve vocally. Idk bout taemin but kai definitely mentioned getting vocal lessons from outside sm
@@laukdaun114then what, other artists who didn't show much improvement didn't want to improve? I honestly don't think SM would allow them to remain like this, they seem to like their idols, even those who are mainly dancers or rappers, to be able to sing properly at least at some capacity and Taemin was considered very weak, for example, and then out of the blue he was covering Jong's parts.
@@depressed_firefly well yeah. Or they didn't have the time or resources to do so. People have different priorities, and there are a lot of career paths an idol could take aside from stage performances. Acting, modeling, variety shows, becoming influencers, music producers etc. It's a job like any other, why would you expect someone to become proficient in everything? SM as a big company does have the resources that they can use, and during trainee era they probably assign the kids to different classes but after their career is launched it's mostly up to the artists to make time inbetween their already busy schedules to improve in the areas they want
Leeseo improved so much in such a short period of time n she's now waaaay more comfortable performing their songs + she also worked really hard on her stage presence. It's actually impressive that's she's such a hard worker
@@yuukonen The "Ee" sound in korean is romanized as Lee just like Rs are turned into Ls sometimes and "Im" is turned into Lim. Also one of the reasons why some romanize "Joon" as "Jun". It's weird tho because it's inconsistent.
I remembered a long time ago, in Exo's Showtime (this was Rookie era. Growl era), Kai said that he wanted to improve his singing skill. He wanted to sing like Kyunsoo. At that time, everyone laughed. I mean, its kyungsoo and Kai was a "rapper". Now he proved himself. Though he isnt in Kyungsoo's level, he improved a lot. This could be said that if an Idol wants to improve his singing skill, they would constantly seek vocal lesson. They wont stop their vocal lesson even if they are already on top of their career. Heck, even someone like Baekhyun still takes vocal class till this day and pay it from his own pocket. Bro sings All I Got. If that didnt show his improvement in his singing skill...
And Kai actually covered a lot of DO's lines in live concerts while DO was serving in the military. I wish the creator of this video watched Gravity live or Call Me Baby where Kai covered DO's lines. It shows more vocal improvement
Don't forget that taemin debuted at 14 so his voice was still changing. He was not able to be teach vocal lessons until hello era if i remember right. To be honest taemin became a very solid vocalist when he comeback with press it album but now he is a main vocalist material.
Taemin used his solo concerts to improve his vocal. He sang his side tracks and ballad during concerts. I can't wait for his new concerts...so many songs from Ngda Act 1, Act 2, Advice and Guilty he not perform yet
im so happy for wheein. She is one of my favorite vocalists of all time, and seeing all the clips of her voice in such a great state recently gives me so much joy!! she is at the top of her game 🔥🔥
You will never see another vocal improvement in SM or in kpop in general at the level or with the quality of Taemin, a top vocal belt, who built year after year, vocal tone, technique, versatility and his register grew more and more. There are many videos and interviews about his ambition and vocal growth process, from a very young age, as well as his frustrations in the process. This shows that he is, in my opinion, the most passionate and hard working artist I have seen so far, because although his role was the main dancer and he gave his all as a performer, he never neglected or left aside the vocal part. After him no one has been seen until today who has improved exponentially like taemin, and not only the vocal aspects mentioned but singing live while killing the choreography, he can handle going up and down in his register and kill high notes while dancing and not just any choreography, The choreography by The Lee taemin. Many vocal coaches recognize that even from agencies other than SM like YG. I think taemin is the only main dancer who is also an excellent live singer, (he has already proved it and I don't just mean those music programs) I couldn't even mention another one . That says a lot about the kind of artist taemin has always been since day n°1, when he set foot in the company dreaming of being a singer. The most legendary of all time.
Taemin's story is truly remarkable. He has a unique and beautiful voice color. This week I was listening to "Blue" and "Night Away". his voice is like honey... especially in "night away" and those runs. by the way my favorite songs on the album.
I appreciate it a lot when idols work on improving their skills after their debut, even if you become excellent at an area, it would be very good to continue improving at that. Finally someone else who noticed Leeseo's improvement, I remember her voice used to be shaky and unstable when Ive first debuted, but it seems like she has worked on that.
That's right. I feel like, these idols seem to actually like what they working on because even after more than five years debuting, they still train/work hard to improve and not stopping just because they already good in that area.
Kai's biggest improvement is mainly on his tone than technique. I think his stylistic choices restrict his growth, but I do think his vocals is more agile now(correct me if I'm wrong tho) His live singing is definitely a lot more consistent now.
We would only know that he can sing if he would stand on a stage and would sing a song live from start to finish without dancing. Surely there is a reason that we never heard him live with only acoustic instruments or acapella an easy song singing (let alone a difficult ballad). Unfortunately, we never actually heard him sing live. We can only see that he can sing 1-1 line after who know how many tries in an uncut recording. This is not proof of his ability to sing.
@saimirmucolli954There are many videos how to differentiate between singing live and lipsync He never sings live as a soloist. only in exo where he sings for less than 10 sec
@saimirmucolli954The creator of this video is a professional and he couldnt find videos of him as a soloist singing live 😂 there is only compilations in exo where he sings few lines 💀
@@M_ri_m I didn't say he didn't improve. he did it slightly like he is more relaxed but he has no content singing live as a soloist only his copilations in exo where he sings less than 10 . for some reason the creator didnt put more videos like the others idols mentioned here
I was so happy to see wheein in her new comeback. She sang so properly and I felt the same her vibrato got even better probably the best for me. She really showed what one can achieve with hard work.
That's why Taemin will always be the standard in the whole kpop. It's curious that no one has improved to such a level. Taemin was destined to be the prodigy of the industry. 👑
Lol. To be fair though, he used clips from 2010, if you can still find it they were on YHY Sketchbook in 2009 and Jonghyun was sick so Taemin did his best to cover for him... Even that was already an improvent, as back in 2008 SM would have never let him try on TV.
This is the reason why Taemin has remained my ult bias for 14 years. I first got into SHINee in 2010, so he was still at the beginnig of his improvement process. I was able to experience his growth throughout the years and I have nothing but respect for him. I remember all the criticism he received when he was announced as the first soloist in SHINee. Many people doubted him and didn't think that he would be able to even sing his own songs. But look at where he is now. You may not like his voice or the way he sings, but you can't deny all of the effort that he put into getting better.
OMG SAMEEEE. Even the year! Ngl, even I doubted at the time because I thought Jonghyun should've been the first but now I'm glad Taemin was the first one because that first solo career in an active group was a reward for all the hard work and dedication he put in and was a path for so many other artists who were better than him vocally + others to do the same. Now, it's totally normal to see a member of a group debut solo and no one thinking they are leaving.
Taemin will forever make me proud as a Shawol and person. I can only hope more idols follow a similar path to his, you can improve after debut too if you want. Same with Kai, tbh, I think he will come back even stronger in time (he is honestly the reason why I give sub-vocalists a chance, but well, it's EXO, everyone in EXO can sing imo)
Technically Joy is a sub-vocalist too. In sm most of the lead vocalists could be mains, and many sub-vocalists sound great as long as the song is the right style and range for them. Even their weakest singers (think Irene, Minho, Yoona) tend to improve enough to sing a simple OST or something eventually.
@@rachelmaddowswife8713 sorry But you're wrong. Minho can sing, and not simple things like you mention. he debuted last year as a soloist Singing a lot of songs. Both in Korean and Japanese. I feel like Taemin has improved even more since Jonghyun's passing. Before he could sit in his comfort zone, but since he's taken up quite a few of Jonghyun's big moment high notes. (I miss Jonghyun every day)
improvement doesnt happen like that, most idols dont ever improve, taemins improvement hit its peak in late 2012, and around 2015 he slightly got worse/regressed but not by much, he just developed some bad habits (possibly stopped receiving regular coaching) like he began to have some jaw tension and getting throaty. he never recovered from the regression but he is still not any worse than he was in 2015, just never got to the 2012-2014 level he used to be on

Kai and Taemin, despite their popularity, still take the time to take vocal lessons regularly and seriously. And I agree, Kai's vocals might never be his strength, but as he always promises to his fans, he will show the best version of himself, and an improved version is what we're getting with each new comeback.
Not to turn this into a mamamoo video (although id LOVE an updated mamamoo ranking) but i feel like solar has also improved- ever since mati hara she doesnt seem to strain as hard and overall has better technique. The wonders of theatre training i suppose
I believe I remember him discussing her improvement after mata hari in a previous video earlier this year but I'd also agree with you that the learning the theatre techniques she did for mata hari definitely helped her improve loads!
casual kpop fans hear about taemin being a good dancer, but they need to hear more about him being a good singer too! he’s one of my favorite singers because i find him to be very expressive and he has dramatic ass songs. lots of his songs aren’t dance songs. if you want to hear more of his vocal centric songs i recommend songs like rise, soldier, i think it’s love, until today, monologue, etc (he has a lot).
Taemin was both blessed and cursed to debut with such strong vocalists in his group at first. His perseverance and probably his members' influence helped pushed him to become better.
When I saw the title of this video, Taemin was the first person who came to mind right away. I have been a SHINee fan for a very very long time and it's been amazing to see how much he's grown vocally.
The small comment about Jimin having a powerful voice like Taemin if he trained more is definitely true. This thing with Hybe not having teachers really bit them in the butt these past few years. They were lucky that RM and Suga were already underground rappers and could train Jhope, otherwise they'd be struggling with him too
Thanks for taemin's appreciation. He went through a lot to be where he is now, he is one of my favorite vocalists, I love his ballads a lot, his voice really stands out❤ On the other hand, I think kai has the potential to continue improving. I hope that now in his free time he continues practicing his singing and comes back stronger.
Let’s pretend to be surprised that these are all SME and RBW artists lol In all seriousness, Moonbyul talking about how she forgot to sing is so important. She’s already a highly revered vocalist from arguably the best female vocal group in KPop (but we all know NMIXX would rise up to be some tough competition if given the proper coaching). So, to recognize that there’s always room for improvement is critical! Too many stans see taking vocal lessons as a sign of weakness. But no. Even some of the greatest vocalists of all time are still taking lessons because they can either A. Improve or B. Solidify their technique to become more consistent. You’re never too good at anything to stop learning or become better. Anyways, great video! I think it’s been one of my favorites from yours in a while! Keep it up! ❤️
Just saying, if vocalists of Eunkwang and Changsub level are still taking vocal lesson, what's the justification of others of stopped taking lesson. Eunkwang is getting even more amazing, and that saying something, considering he was already one of the best even before.
Agreed! If you're in the industry for a while and you got some good money from your career, if your talent is declining or not improving, it's because you don't want to. That is one of the moments when idols shouldn't be given a pat in the head because they have enough money for vocal classes.@@kamuigrey4597

I'm loving all this Taemin praise.🥺 He truly deserves it for being such a hard working talented individual that proves how one can improve on anything you set your mind to if you commit to it. This is just one of the reasons that makes him the Idol of Idols!👑
Truly Kai has improved a lot, from a rapper with a few lines into a vocalist/sub vocalist especially shining in his solo albums, it's hard to shine vocally in a strong vocal group like EXO but Kai managed to prove himself strongly ❤❤
I think for Jimin it is more the need of a good teacher than hard work. Hype don't see to like good vocals. Taemin has his member to help him on top of the teacher. If i understand right jimin only practice alone.
@@sayurioffenborn4960 If he needs a teacher, he doesn't need to be given one by his company. He can pay one himself. But, i agree that Taemin has his group members to help him, and also, he has SM, unlike Jimin, who doesn't have anyone to help him improve.

I am really happy that she is getting better. I did notice she got better for the Mic On World Tour. As a moomoo, it was really rough seeing Wheein deal with so many mental health issues, especially when it was at a time where they were the most busy around their peak in 2018-2019. Although it was the period the group had the most recognition, and I was really happy for them, they were severely overworked. Part of me is sad that they are past their seven year mark as a group and more than likely have already reached their peak, but I am happy they have more time to rest now, especially Wheein.
Say whatever you want about SM but one thing that sets them apart is they continuously provide vocal training to idols even after their debut. Wendy, Taeyeon, Luna are few examples who drastically improved their skills after debut.
i love that you have older artists and a newer one included in this video! It just shows you can always improve no matter where you are in your career. i loved this video!
Yes, Taemin really worked very hard, he didn't sleep or only did it for a few hours because he preferred to practice. If he got tired of singing he would start dancing. If he got tired of dancing, he would start singing again. taemin is a clear example of how hard work can make you perfect 🥺 Watching the videos of him in his beginnings made me tear up🤧
Taemin is insanely passionate about his artisty and being a singer, cuz I saw a vid that says he has a good technique but that's he sometimes uses a technique that isnt common or he just does(don't know how to explain it well, I'll send the vid if u want) and it's because he would practice and teach HIMSELF how to sing better, yes he got help but since he practice alone most of the time he would learn without a professional which made it unconventional, same goes for Jjong he learned and improved by practing alone in a dark room, and would constantly change the way he sang(he already had good technique and an amazing voice but he would still change it throughout shinees music)
Wheein said herself in 2020-2021 was in a bad mental condition. It really showed both on her energy and her vocal technique, since she does little lipsync (because all four Mamamoo are very bad at it and it is very clear). Now that she's in a better state, and she's came back at her "usual self" you really can tell the improvement was due to an all-round work on her mental health along with dance and vocals techniques. She come back stronger and I really love it.
It’s crazy to hear Taemin’s early vocals and think of just how many idols there are currently who have some of the same issues and same potential, but may never be given the support to improve because it isn’t a priority for their company.
I remember Moonbyul said in a show that she originally started as a vocalist but the company made her a rapper to balance out the group or something because she was not as good a vocalist as the other 3 members and that's why she stopped singing :( She's such a great rapper and I'm so happy she gets to grow and become a great vocalist too
Taemin is a clear example that anyone can improve if you really put your mind to it, of course it requires a lot of time and sacrifice. Taemin talked about this in an interview. Hours without sleep and him being a teenager. I really admire him for his determination👏
Interesting enough Kai has one of my favorite voices in exo. I do think his voice could be so much better, I feel like he has a hard time with high notes but when he sings with a lower or his natural tone it sounds so good, he has an interesting caramel type of voice (if that makes sense) that mixes well with the main vocalists of exo
Yeah especially in cream soda he had to sing in falseto (chorus part) which obviously not on his range. He definetly improve little by little for the past year and i love that but i'm really questioning who make him do that part. It can hurt his throat badly (you can see him holding his neck) and i would like if they give him more part than just 2 lines on every song instead of pushing him to do highnote you know
This is an issue in all of Kpop I think… they tend to force male singer to sing tenor even when they’re not. And also they favor high notes too much. I think Kai’s voice would show more improvement if they let him sing more in a lower range. When he does, he sounds much better and more stable, even in studio versions.
@@dwiamelia9471 I don’t think he should have been given that part in cream soda. Cream soda overall is a just a crazy song 😅 I think though sometimes when he was touching his neck in that video, it was to see where is larynx was at. He was obviously making a lot of effort though.
Would like to add Ten from NCT /WayV too, debuted as rapper, main dancer, now soloist, and main vocalist of his group. from 8 sec line to debut to main vocal to High note, ad-lib etc. He was always known as one of best dancer, trained various dance styles pre debut , but concentrated on vocals training very late during hiatus (after debut) for healing after knee surgery where he was scared what could he do if he couldn’t dance, so around age 20 -21 he actually practised vocals deligently. Now among the best dancer and amazing vocalist, stable live vocals too even with tough choreography. Yes SM really has some great vocal coaches for sure.
If there's a part 2 I think Doyoung is for sure a huge shout. Biggest improvement since Taemin imo, went from Jaehyun arguably being the better vocalist to being on the same tier with taeil during the resonance era.
Doyoung really is the hardworking type. Although he was already a very talented vocalist he continued and still is improving his vocals, especially after his musical. A part of me thinks it's because he's hard on himself. Doyoung recently said he was under pressure and that he thought he wouldn't be loved anymore if he made even a single mistake in singing. He's definitely his own biggest critic but I hope he knows how amazing he's doing.
@@mellisalake7490Damn I didn't know he was so hard on himself, hope he realizes how great he is already is and improving comes with mistake and misteps
Taeil was on his worst during resonance era, doyoung surpassed him but Taeil regained his strength at sticker era But Doyoung was never at the same level as jae,sf he was always above him
@@hvcb270Technique wise no, him and Jae were arguably on the same tier but I’d give the edge to Jaehyun since his mixed was better at the time and that’s where they operate the most. Doyoung just had more lines due to his voice fitting NCT’s music more.due to having the higher pitched voice, it could go either way(at the time) neither him or Jae were “levels” above the other. Now it’s not really a discussion cause Doyoung’s technique has improved massively, not quite as good as Taeil but they are on the same tier

I wish you make a ranking video of lead vocalists, or vocalists. Most videos about vocal mentions main vocalists only, while there’re vocalists I believe need to be considered and talked about (Chanyeol, Suho and Kai “Exo”, San “Ateez”, Moonbyul “Mamamoo”, ..)
With Jimin, I am starting to get angry. If he got more help? If he wants help, he could get it. SM refused to accommodate Baekhyun, so he PAID for continued vocal lessons himself. Jimin should demand the proper treatment, if he really wants it that is.
@@hederlisa yeah, you can tell he’s so uncomfortable when singing and he’s the literal lead vocalist in the group trading off parts with Jungkook. It’s gotten to the point where even Jin is a more capable vocalist even with his glaring issues.
@@hederlisa he’s been pushing a lot more with his solo material, but he was never an “excellent” vocalist to being with. He was suitable for his groups music at the beginning but as they went more into the pop route his issues have become very apparent even if he has improved quite a bit since debut. He’s in a similar boat technically to Rosé right now I’d say, capable vocalists with some large limitations.
Lovely video! I also think Seungmin and I.N. from Stray Kids would be good additions. Also Luna from f(x). I also think including Western vocalists would be great to. Such as Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Madonna etc. Also I had an idea of a video for you: Songs that would be better with stronger vocalists, because in K-Pop specifically I've noticed that some songs are written beautifully but the vocal performance drags the overall quality down.
Idk if she's in this list since I haven't started it yet but Irene (RV) has definitely improved. I'm so proud of per rn. This last album they just released has her all over it, even doing adlibs and the improvement is soooo noticeable in their killing voice performance
I had no idea that was her who sang "come here, babe" in the second verse of Underwater. I thought that was Joy until I saw a line distribution vid. I was so impressed.
I’m honestly so impressed with Moonbyul not only is she the most credit kpop female rapper, but also her vocals have only kept improving through the years. She’s also so stable singing live and her range is incredible
this is why idols are also partially to blame with their lack of skills vocal voaches aside taemin strived and pursued to become one of the best vovalist rn, even though he could have just be the best dancer and call it a day he practiced and practiced to be able to reach this level
Being a good dancer can't get them anywhere. Taemin knew this. If they can't improve their vocal they can't stand on his own...they can't even handle a small fanmeeting...let alone a big stage like solo concert
I posted a comment under one of your other videos talking about how both Kai and Taemin have improved a lot, so it's nice to see you defend Kai a little in this video because someone commented with this totally sarcastic "KAI?!?!" as if I'd said something insane. Kai is still working on it and may never be a *great* vocalist, but he shows that he cares and wants to keep getting better, and he sings well enough now to make him a viable solo performer who really does sing live (with the back up track in place). Honestly even Baekyhun struggles a tiny bit with that crazy falsetto in Cream Soda (watch their Killing Voice -- Baek breaks a tiny bit, no hate at all, that song is HARD) so it''s natural Kai would have some trouble with it!
I think, I just fought last night under your comment, the way Taemin and Shinee stan degraded Kai there is disgusting, they really do use brain to think you mentioned their improvement individually, you didn’t compare both of them. Also I don’t think Baekhyun struggled in cream soda, Baekhyun's approach was totally different than Suho, Kyungsoo. Even in the original recording his part felt different, because it was sung differently. I think he didn’t sing it with falsetto but the head voice. Like if you compare it to his Bambi album, it has much higher falsettos than cream soda which he sang live in livestreams with ease.
Exactly, and I saw your comment and I agreed with it a lot. I don't know where the hate with Kai is coming from anyways, I hope he continues to improve more in his vocalist and acting because I really want him to do more movies playing the lead roles; he already got the look. Also learn more English because I want him in international movies too. I don't think I am asking for too much am I? 😂😂 Anyways, I just love him and want him to succeed in everything.
@@SadiaIslamShoukiAnother one that directly accuses Taemin's fans.
Like Kyungsoo said, Kai is generally a lazy person, but not when it comes to his work. He always works the longest and the hardest.
Taemin so far has been the most atypical case in terms of exponential growth in everything and became the goat of kpop.
it's impressive the level that taemin achieved, it's amazing his discipline and his ambition as an artist. in sm he is the only case of exponential growth. there has been no other after him. of course everybody gets better w time, but taemin always surprises a lot of people when they discover him for the first time and see how his story started.. and how the same man who is killing those highnotes, runs and being the most dramatic vocalist on
"Guilty" was once called "tone deaf" taemin will always be the best example of talent and hard work.
taemin is an impressive thing not only as a vocalist but artistically. Guilty floored me a month ago and I still can't get over it. it's a brilliant and artistic song. kai has the potential to improve more
@@baek_sowell said. Taemin worked very hard to reach his current state. 🥺
I've always loved Moonbyul's tone so much, so having the opportunity to hear more of her singing lately is so nice
Moonbyul could be a lead vocalist or even feel like main vocalist in other groups. Mamamoo in general are just vocally talented
Taemin is the best example of 'Weakness is a choice, not an excuse.'
Also I would add Seungmin from Skz too.
Omg reading what you wrote made me tear of pride ❤❤
@@baek_so he didn’t Taeyeon and GD made way for kpop soloists. Taemin has sm favouring him to be debuted as a solo earlier than his group members
@adara4635 yeah, she really had it rough there. and somehow still sang very well while sick! she just keeps getting better.
@rachelmaddowswife8713 I meant since the beginning of their Mycon tour, her singing and voice had gotten far much better.
@@Butterflyemoji You and the video said she regressed, I'm asking why that happened. Glad she's getting better.
This❤❤❤
Taemin has the best vocal glow up i have ever seen in not only kpop but in general

Moon Jong Up ?
Taemin's story is truly remarkable. He has a unique and beautiful voice color. This week I was listening to "Blue" and "Night Away". his voice is like honey... especially in "night away" and those runs. by the way my favorite songs on the album.
I saw Taemin live on stage at the end of last year and couldn't believe how good he sounded. Truly an impressive performer thought and through
I appreciate it a lot when idols work on improving their skills after their debut, even if you become excellent at an area, it would be very good to continue improving at that.
@@absolutelynotellen Yes.
This!!
Kai's biggest improvement is mainly on his tone than technique. I think his stylistic choices restrict his growth, but I do think his vocals is more agile now(correct me if I'm wrong tho)
His live singing is definitely a lot more consistent now.
@saimirmucolli954There are many videos how to differentiate between singing live and lipsync
He never sings live as a soloist.
only in exo where he sings for less than 10 sec
@saimirmucolli954The creator of this video is a professional and he couldnt find videos of him as a soloist singing live 😂

Then the “they’re dancers not singers” excuse is bs
Thank you
They're idols
Should at least be decent even as dancer
Yes.
At least, they still need to be able to carry a tune.
Kai is the type of guy who never wants to stop he is just so hard working even after a decade career he calls himself a rookie
Taemin’s ‘weak’ vocals sound way better than some 4th gen idols out there 😭
Lol. To be fair though, he used clips from 2010, if you can still find it they were on YHY Sketchbook in 2009 and Jonghyun was sick so Taemin did his best to cover for him... Even that was already an improvent, as back in 2008 SM would have never let him try on TV.
@@Pos1t1veThinkinghe definitely was better than some 4th gen idols even in 2008 and he did sang live
We can say that about some of 3th gen idols too, like Jisoo or Momo.
not only 4th gen but 3rd gen and some 2nd gen. there's a lot of dozen vocalists
Was gen4 really that bad? I don't follow gen4 unless it's SM and YG and they're fine
And Lily NMIXX really nice
Thanks for recognising Suho vocals too
This is the reason why Taemin has remained my ult bias for 14 years.
@@rachelmaddowswife8713 Yeah but thats an SM thing, everyone there can sing. It's hard not to be proud of them tbh.

@@ChloeBx I hope Hwasa improves as well, her new label keeps giving her sing-talk songs and I feel it’s underutilizing her voice’s true potential and range.
SM artists glow up is so interesting not just in vocals but in dancing performances and other aspects too you can tell they have a guidance and have amazing potential too.. Best idols in the industry
Taemin is not called the Ace of SM for no reason. His story and growth is quite admirable.
I feel like Taemin has improved even more since Jonghyun's passing. Before he could sit in his comfort zone, but since he's taken up quite a few of Jonghyun's big moment high notes. (I miss Jonghyun every day)
improvement doesnt happen like that, most idols dont ever improve, taemins improvement hit its peak in late 2012, and around 2015 he slightly got worse/regressed but not by much, he just developed some bad habits (possibly stopped receiving regular coaching) like he began to have some jaw tension and getting throaty. he never recovered from the regression but he is still not any worse than he was in 2015, just never got to the 2012-2014 level he used to be on
@@triplej8666 what are you talking abt? the taemin of 2012 could not have sung guilty with the skill of 2023. let alone be considered an excellent live singer. definitely his peak has not been 2012, i would rather say that his peak is every year that passes, because he is getting fucking better and better, his voice matured and he is always trying new styles of singing. Since 2015 he has not gotten worse or better, he slightly improved his upper register but still now he supports G4/G#4 with consistency still. I'm not talking about as an artist, but vocal technique wise he regressed and has never been as good as he was in 2012-2014@@danie_lle
I'm talking about technique, not as an artist. The runs and highnotes? He's always been able to execute basic runs, He used to be able to support Bb4/B4 you know right? Like way higher than G4/G#4 he has now. Have you ever watched all of his immortal songs performances, which are his best vocal performances technique wise. Nowadays he strains A4, he used to be able to resonate Bb4's like it was nothing. The lee mujin has nothing impressive compared to 2012-2014, it just has lots of 5th octave in the into the new world cover, and its all strained since its 5th octave.

Taemin is my favourite vocalist of all time which is why i know so much abt his performances across 15 years. Im just trying to be objective and provide correct unbiased analysis. Taemin was a top 10 kpop vocalist in 2012-2014. Now he is a top 15 instead. That's all. Hes still the most improved idol ever and the best sub vocalist in kpop.
Taemin has never been a bad singer, it's just that he was at his puberty stage when he debuted and his singing voice was not fully developed yet.
I respect taemin.. he deserved the titke of idols of idol. Proud my man ❤❤❤
The small comment about Jimin having a powerful voice like Taemin if he trained more is definitely true. This thing with Hybe not having teachers really bit them in the butt these past few years. They were lucky that RM and Suga were already underground rappers and could train Jhope, otherwise they'd be struggling with him too
Thanks for taemin's appreciation. He went through a lot to be where he is now, he is one of my favorite vocalists, I love his ballads a lot, his voice really stands out❤
On the other hand, I think kai has the potential to continue improving. I hope that now in his free time he continues practicing his singing and comes back stronger.
Taemin´s voice pierce my soul. Hi was, is and will be my ult. No wreckers.

Let’s pretend to be surprised that these are all SME and RBW artists lol
In all seriousness, Moonbyul talking about how she forgot to sing is so important.
Keep it up! ❤️
Thank you so much for these kind words!☺️
Just saying, if vocalists of Eunkwang and Changsub level are still taking vocal lesson, what's the justification of others of stopped taking lesson.
Eunkwang is getting even more amazing, and that saying something, considering he was already one of the best even before.
Agreed! If you're in the industry for a while and you got some good money from your career, if your talent is declining or not improving, it's because you don't want to. That is one of the moments when idols shouldn't be given a pat in the head because they have enough money for vocal classes.@@kamuigrey4597
Mamamoo members being the top tier singers in kpop industry and yet they are still working hard improving the vocal skills, they are called as Vocal Queens for a reason

I agree that Jimin could sound so much better if he would work more on his vocal technique.
He struggles even in the easiest part of his songs.

@clementine1214 The damage is real

Kai good Job for getting better and better even with the existence of such powerful voices in your group ❤
that run for taemin's introductions.. these idols arent the only people making improvements, we see you!!
Jongin and Taemin improvement besties!! ❤❤
I have never seen someone improve so much like taemin did and somehow he’s still getting better? It’s really crazy
Let's not forget that Taemin was 14 when he debuted... for god's sake, he was going through puberty

i love that you have older artists and a newer one included in this video! It just shows you can always improve no matter where you are in your career. i loved this video!
Yes, Taemin really worked very hard, he didn't sleep or only did it for a few hours because he preferred to practice.
If he got tired of singing he would start dancing. If he got tired of dancing, he would start singing again. taemin is a clear example of how hard work can make you perfect 🥺
Watching the videos of him in his beginnings made me tear up🤧
Taemin is insanely passionate about his artisty and being a singer, cuz I saw a vid that says he has a good technique but that's he sometimes uses a technique that isnt common or he just does(don't know how to explain it well, I'll send the vid if u want) and it's because he would practice and teach HIMSELF how to sing better, yes he got help but since he practice alone most of the time he would learn without a professional which made it unconventional, same goes for Jjong he learned and improved by practing alone in a dark room, and would constantly change the way he sang(he already had good technique and an amazing voice but he would still change it throughout shinees music)
KAI improved and thank you for noticing it and it has a beautiful tone
i love kai's voice so much. glad he took time to improve and let it shine even more
We love some glow up
Taemin is iconic for his vocal improvement!
Please do a part 2!
I’m so proud of Wheein for comeback so strongly after her struggles with her singing style and confidence. She’s my ult and my favorite vocalist.
You should make a full taemin video next. There are many great videos on his growth process. He is a hardworking artist since day 0. ❤️🔥
I can't be prouder, gonna cry .. TAEMIN T_T

It’s crazy to hear Taemin’s early vocals and think of just how many idols there are currently who have some of the same issues and same potential, but may never be given the support to improve because it isn’t a priority for their company.
Taemin has greatly improved so much.He has strong vocal yet so smooth at the same time. I love his breathy sexy voice ❤😉
I remember Moonbyul said in a show that she originally started as a vocalist but the company made her a rapper to balance out the group or something because she was not as good a vocalist as the other 3 members and that's why she stopped singing :(
She's such a great rapper and I'm so happy she gets to grow and become a great vocalist too
Taemin is a clear example that anyone can improve if you really put your mind to it, of course it requires a lot of time and sacrifice. Taemin talked about this in an interview. Hours without sleep and him being a teenager.
I really admire him for his determination👏
Love Taemin's vocal improve and also Kai's, even if it's not too impresive, it's just the fact that he is working so hard, I love him so much.
It mainly because he's not a tenor. His comfortable range is lower than the rest of exo. He shines in his solo album because he knows his range.
Remember, two of three exo's main vocalists complimented his voice and one of them even wanted to do a duet with him.
@@mellisalake7490 You can tell by how many times he re-records his parts, even though it sounds fine.
@@mellisalake7490Damn I didn't know he was so hard on himself, hope he realizes how great he is already is and improving comes with mistake and misteps
Taeil was on his worst during resonance era, doyoung surpassed him but Taeil regained his strength at sticker era
But Doyoung was never at the same level as jae,sf he was always above him
@@hvcb270Technique wise no, him and Jae were arguably on the same tier but I’d give the edge to Jaehyun since his mixed was better at the time and that’s where they operate the most.

Taemin to me has always vocally been what Jimin could be if he got some help lmao, they’re both amazing dancers and they even have similar looks.
With Jimin, I am starting to get angry. If he got more help? If he wants help, he could get it. SM refused to accommodate Baekhyun, so he PAID for continued vocal lessons himself. Jimin should demand the proper treatment, if he really wants it that is.

Wheein needs to keep going. Not many singers have their tone and none of them are at her potential.
So proud of Taemin. He’s so hard working in all he does it’s so inspiring! ❤
The Taemin/jimin comparison was perfect, one is the underdeveloped version of the other vocally(with all due respect ofc)
Así es como sonaría Jimin si tuviera el entrenamiento adecuado, el esfuerzo y talento.
I was there
And they were just praising taemin
and one of them said that Taemin at his peak was around Baek tier
The subscribers of this channel who are always criticizing the idols' vocal abilities started saying that Kai wasn't a good vocalist and then exol started to insult taemin even in this video they continue to attacking Kai and they are not fans of Taemin, what if they are from another fandom.
@@monique2939 Taemin's fans should be directly called out for their immaturity. If you want me I can literally quote some of their actual replies regarding Kai.First of all, It was simply an appreciation comment this commenter( who is the main commenter there) posted , The Taemin fans simply could have said, " yeah we are proud of him" Remember this is an Exo-l, praising your favs too, then how hard for you guys to be cordial and if you don’t want to praise other artists, then how hard it is to ignore rather than insult the other idol? but instead they went other way, Mockingly replied " Kai?", another said," It’s a insult to name Kai and Taemin together". But have the audacity to say Taemin was on the same level with Baekhyun. It was Taemin fans who insulted Kai, brought the Baekhyun comparison and you guys expect us not to call you out.
@@SadiaIslamShouki Look at the comment again and check his previous comments that person who said first KAI?? Always comment about other idols too, he has even commented on this video pointing out about Taemin's regression saying he actually regressed and lack vocal support blah blah
so I don't understand why to claim that all those who started to discredit kai are taemin fans
then other people joined in the comment to talk about exo .
They are subscribers of this channel, they are always commenting and criticizing idols' vocal abilities,
Yes, at the end of the comment Taemin's fans started to reply because Exol insulting him.
About Baek comparison I don't know about vocal technique but I know that previously there was an account of a vocal coach who made a "TIER LIST" and put Taemin behind Baek both were at "above average vocalist" tier .
Taemin was better than now and I guess they use that comparison to "highlight" how much he improved in the past .
