    One of my favorite reels. But my paw cap just broke and now I need to find a new one. Speaking of which you did not clean the level wind gear and paw. They get real dirty too.

      Thanks for the note. That cap is definitely the weak point of the reel. You are correct, that pawl and gear should be cleaned. My omission - Dennis

    Do you ever notice when you go fishing , that there is an older fisherman fishing with quality equipment 20 to 30 years old that works like new , his secret , cleaning after use and servicing .

      Yes - and I have also noticed folks with very expensive "new" reels that lay them on the beach when unhooking a fish or taking a break. I will see those in for repair soon enough. Care is key - thanks for the note - Dennis

    Dennis, should i buy a zeebas or a van stahl? Assuming you know of each..

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  6 лет назад +1

      I am somewhat familiar with both. The answer is always, it depends. To start with, much of the engineering and design are the same. It is my understanding the the lead designer for the Van Staal reel is now the engineer for the Zeebas reels. Van Staal was purchased by the WC Bradley company, which is a conglomerate that manufactures Zebco, Quantum, Fin-Nor and Van Staal reels. Both are high quality and high priced spinning reels. Both have excellent reputations. So, it is all about the feel and the fishing you do.. How do the reels compare side by side? How do they feel in your hand. What are the ergonomics, how much does it weigh and how is the balance for the pole you will use it on? How do the crank, handle, etc. "feel". Which fits you best? I believe you will be happy with either. You need to try them out to make the final call.

    Thank you for video. I was cleaning my Corsair 400cs and theright side plate opening that holds the roller cluth inner tube is loose. The anti reverse bearing sits in this part. I cant figure out why this part is loose and how to tighten. Any suggestions. Appreciate your help

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  3 года назад

      The clutch can slide in and out of the side plate sleeve. It is not pressed in, so if it is loose, that should not be an issue. I can't imagine how that would be damaged. As long as the clutch does not spin in the case, in other words, the case is holding it in position, then you will be fine. - Dennis

      @@2ndChanceTackle Thank you dennis for your reply. I reassembled and the sleeve between star drag and side plate is loose so small wiggle when reeling. Probably a defect as no way to tighten the sleeve to the side plate. I appreciate and enjoy watching your videos

    I noticed you gave no attention to the worm gear was that intentional and when you do do you recommend oil or grease?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  6 лет назад

      I generally add just a drop of oil to the worm gear and pawl. I don't use grease as it is an exposed area that gets a lot of water on it. If it is salt water, the grease deteriorates quickly and the salt remains once evaporated. This one was turning fine, so I left out the step. - Dennis

      Yes - I would start by replacing the drag washers before I looked at anything else.

    I have a Corsair 301 that the anti reverse misses on occasion. any ideas on a quick fix for that? it does it on every cast.

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  4 года назад

      I believe your corsair has the roller clutch anti reverse system. These usually fail if there is a lot of dirt/grease build up on the inner ferrel. Try taking off the star adjuster and remove the tension washers then the ferrel. Clean it and insert if back in to see if that improves the performance. If not, then the roller clutch would be the next thing to check. They rarely fail, but you may have one that is dirty and acting poorly. The best thing to go there is to remove the side plate and flood the roller clutch with several blasts of a penetrating oil, like WD40 in order to try and clean out any debris. If that doesn't work, then it would probably need to be replaced.
      If by chance you have an older model with the anti-reverse pawl, then you would need to replace that part. If you can send me a picture of the inside of the reel, I can confirm. Send the picture to me at 2ndchancetackle@gmail.com
