  • A budget revival of a rough 6-cylinder '66 Ford Mustang, off the road since the '80s. It won't be shiny. It won't be fast. Documentation of all the fumbling around I did in 2022. This video is an edit of the first 18 episodes - 90 minutes of footage cut down to a tight 55. You can continue watching at episode 19: • The Six 19 - 1966 Must...
YEAR TWO UPDATE: • The Six: SO FAR - 1966...

I feel your pain my friend. I've restored they rust buckets for over 40 years. Not much I haven't seen. The frustration is always worth it in the end. Even when it feels like the end will never come. Keep in there. Your doing great!!!

Always have a tremendous amount of respect for people that restore classics. There may be tons of them out there but unless they're well cared for, we don't see them out as often. Rough year but so much work done. Keep it up.

My '66 Mustang is a Frankenstein. Per sn it's supposed to be a standard with 289. That'd make it 5 lug rear and front underpinnings. It's a 6 cylinder, had an automatic with 4 lug wheels. It came with headers and a two barrel carburetor conversion. After finding the clutch pedal tucked up under the carpet, I just had to convert it back to manual. Best decision ever! I can get good enough performance to beat many metric wanna be racers.

Carbs do make you fat but not as badly if they are complex. If you got away with crime in your youth, you've definitely paid your debt to society by now with all that work you did on this car. Made my 66 mustang look like a trailer queen. I feel like a lazy bum now.

I think it is great to see I'm not the only one who does the best they can and just wants a car to enjoy. Without spending 10's of thousands of dollars to make it perfect. Just get them back on the road and enjoy them. That's what it's all about in the end.

I remember in the 80s we got cars like this for $500-$750 in good running shape. If I only knew, same for the Rolex I bought in 2002 for $3800, I should have bought 3 of them, and could have sold the 2 unopened for 18k each a few years back.

12:10 I loved working on carburetors, my 1986 Honda XL 600, (In 1988) would stall on me constantly, even after bringing to Honda for service. I took the carb off, gave it a complete cleaning, and it ran like a clock after that, unfortunately 2 weeks later went through a ladies windshield and shattered my left leg 9 months in a cast, rods, one doctor even saying amputation was possible, but the advent of the EBI Bone Healer saved my leg, anyway , I digress.

I'm working on one now. No more Vermont tags though. Love the Rockauto boxes and the budget restore. I call myself a preservationist. Love fixing the things that are broken. Best video out there showing it how it is. Young people should see this and learn the pleasures of working with your hands and the satisfaction of accomplishment. I'm 65 and spent my life doing this, slowly learning the techniques. Cheers my friend.

  • @TheSchmed

That’s the problem with these old fixes, fix one thing then downstream something else is going to fail, and you go down that wormhole, all good if you expect it and have the finances. As my buddy used to say, “it’s a pain in the dick”

took me 2 years had to replace rear quarter panels, complete trunk floor, doors, hood, trunk lid etc etc. there was no area mechanical that I did not rebuild, engine, trans, differential, added disc brakes and a/c, too many items to list. my mustang is the only vehicle that I own. I still work on the car and keep upgrading items that I need to. 78,000 miles and running fantastic

Random wires that go nowhere and other half assed work. The battery wires were reversed black on pos red on neg and I didn’t notice til I had already drained all of the magic smoke fluid from the alternator.
