that would be RGB 240p, however, the purest form is a straight up digital mod, like the PS1Digital, that thing bypasses the analog RGB, it gives you a straight digital signal.
Hey man! I'm not a beginner and I really want the RAD2X as my solution for my Genesis on my HDTV. Looking forward to it! This will make a lot of people happy, not just retro beginners.
I agree. I don’t just think it’s a solution for “beginners”. It Insinuates that if you’re serious you need an ossc or a framemeister. I think it’s just a good solution full-stop, switch on and play. No worrying about various different profiles for different consoles etc. I’ve preordered a load which will then go through an HDMI matrix to 2 TVs meaning when I have friends round we can play 2 different consoles at the same time. You couldn’t do that with an ossc, well not cost effectively anyway.
You can get an ossc but it may not work with your tv. If you get a new TV it may not work. It has compatibility issues, resolutions on the same set if memory serves too. Everything other solution aside from buying another console that I know of has lag. If you get another console it won't be a 100% reproduction.

I'm hoping to get the RAD2X for my Genesis once they're in stock, as, like you said, the composite out is extremely fuzzy. The only thing composite has over the RAD2X it seems is that it blurs transparency properly, but that's it.

This is probably a dumb question, but do you know where I could find a battery door cover for a CDX? Somehow, over the years, mine fell off and has been lost to the void of time...
you could theoretically use a rad2x for genesis model 2 on a model one genesis if you mod your model one by: removing the rf modulator , adding a genesis 2 av out port and adding a triple bypass mod chip that uses stereo out and the rgb signal is bypassed at the model 2 av out port.

This has kind of been done with the RetroTINK 2X + OSSC. You can put the HDMI from the RetroTINK into an HDMI to VGA converter, then put the VGA into an OSSC to upscale the rest of the way. Since the RAD-2X is basically a RetroTINK 2X in a plug and play package, it would work with the RAD-2X. Obviously, this isn't ideal budget-wise, but it works very well from what I've heard.
@@kali_muon Yeah I've considered that option, but I'm not into the idea of converting to analogue then back again for no reason. If the OSSC had an HDMI in, it would make a lot more sense.
@@DrLilo The idea seems off-putting, but the signal shouldn't lose any quality. The "cable run" for analog is very short, VGA preserves the picture quality, and the OSSC is great at upscaling. Hi. Used a few BlackMagic capture devices, and they're EXTREMELY particular regarding video signal and precise frame frequency. Anything that deviates slightly hasn't worked for me in the past. Unless you can dial in the PRECISE signal your console is outputting in Media Express, then forget about it.
@@coderkind Thanks for responding! I knew I wasn't the only one to use/have access to BM capture cards! Also also which PCI-E capture card do you recommend that plays nice with the Retrotink 2x and SNES/SFC era signal? macOS compatibility would be nice.
No and No. I think you two are misunderstanding the purpose of this: Both the Xbox and Dreamcast can connect to a modern TV with just a cheap, lagless VGA to HDMI converter.
Also so you're saying that it's indeed my IP4k's pickiness with the sync that's causing my issues? How would I dial in the precise frequency in ME? Also also which PCI-E capture card do you recommend that plays nice with the Retrotink 2x and SNES/SFC era signal? macOS compatibility would be nice.
Good review!
Would the HAS from RGB on Arcade Projects forum be one of those superguns this *should* work with? If so that makes this 10000x cooler!
No, because that uses an 8-Pin MiniDIN, not 9-pin. Maybe Rob will release an 8-pin version though?
@@RetroRGB Oh ok makes sense. Thanks!
Why did the price go up ? I swear a few month back they where cheaper like 30 euros, now they are 47 euros
The price has never changed.
30 Euros! that wouldn't cover the cost of the PCB Assembly!
Nice Rust in Peace Flying V in the back!
Thank you!!! It's fully customized.
Does this work on a 32X plugged into the Genesis?
This is one of the very first things I show in the video. You should try watching it ;p :)
Can you use this on a Omega MVS, it has the same style plug??
No, the Omega MVS doesn’t use a standard Genesis 2 output.
@@RetroRGB Thanku
Component vs RAD2X... Which is better?
Component video through the RetroTINK 5x is better. But a lot more expensive.
Hey Bob, how did you get the RAD2x connected to the trinitron?
Via an HDMI to component converter...and it's a monitor that can handle 480p.
@@RetroRGB cool and so simple
I have a couple bvm with sdi and hd-sdi input and use a hdmi to sdi converter but didn't think of that for 31kHz
Cheers
It would be a great device to use on a sega Saturn or ps1 then run into a ossc and avoid the 240p and 480i sync issues.
I show this in the RAD2x PlayStation review at 4:10: ruclips.net/video/a0Ksk9Zru_A/видео.html
Will there eventually be a version available for the original XBox?
Hopefully, but there needs to be one for Dreamcast as well.
No and No. I think you two are misunderstanding the purpose of this: Both the Xbox and Dreamcast can connect to a modern TV with just a cheap, lagless VGA to HDMI converter. These are for consoles that output signals most modern displays don't know what to do with. Please see the original RAD2x video for more details.
@@RetroRGB Ah, fair enough. But both PS2 and Gamecube are supported with RAD2X so it would make people think it could had been for those other consoles as well. Plus it would had also been good for capture cards as most capture cards particularly newer ones mainly do HDMI.
@@RetroRGB Also, wait, how do you connect an OG Xbox to a VGA to HDMI converter? OG Xbox's best output is component unless there is a mod for VGA on Xbox that I'm missing. Sadly not all Dreamcast games support VGA(I own some that don't). I do understand that this is meant for 240p consoles as it's meant to line double them to 480p, but Dreamcast did have some 240p games as well.
mitu123Copper you took all (every single one) the words right out of my mouth. I second what you say. @RetroRGB I watched the original video very closely when you released it however the info provided in that still lead me to ask the question I asked to begin this convo. Keep up the great work with your videos. They’re always extremely informative and helpful.
Nice
Master System! YES!!!
Cool
Where can I find this item
www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/RAD2X-CABLES. They are out of stock currently, though they hope to have more in stock sometime within the first 3 months of 2021. Except slower production runs due to covid.
Do we have a release date yet?
@Nobody You Know - Worse time of the year to be arriving around XMAS time.
Quote from Retro Gaming Cables Limited: "at the end of the month"
Radx not available in USA??
No, only one distributor.
This or retrovision cables?
Totally different use cases. This is for HD TV’s. The HD Retrovision are either for CRT’s, or to connect to a scaler like a RetroTINK.
Is that 32x spacer a 3D print?
Yes, links are in the main post - Check the description.
RetroRGB cheers
I love the intro song
Thank you! I wrote that a few years ago for a band I was in.
@@RetroRGB whatd you use to mix it?
Hello,
I get lost with all these videos ... what is best for me? I have a genesis 2 and an N64.
If we're not talking about price, what's the best thing about RAD2x cable or buying an OSSC?
RAD2x is more efficient or equal to an OSSC?
Thank you for your reply
All of your questions are answered and demonstrated in these videos. Please try again and maybe watch the original, as suggested: ruclips.net/video/DyE85OFGQpM/видео.html
Looks good, not like you can get them though =(
So the struggle in my head as I purchase all of these things is....I have a Mega SG and it looks and sounds amazing and it's always what I wind up playing lol. Yet I still keep chasing the pixels.
If you already have a Mega Sg, that will look better than this. These are just designed to be cheap (but good!) ways to play the original consoles.
why is american mega drives called sega genesis?
I never knew the answer to that. Good question!
ps1 ???

I spread disease like a dog! Your guitar is very distracting. Oh ya I want a rad2x
Discharge my payload, a mile high...
@@RetroRGB have you checked out the song child Saint by child Saint. You might recognize it.
Let me be a douche for a second.. there was no genesis in pal regions ... We toads over the ocean grew up with a 'MegaDrive' .... 🤓
Didn't I say "Genesis and Mega Drive"? I refuse to put annoying jump cuts in my videos, so I end up doing a bunch of takes and pick the best. Maybe I used the wrong one?
@@RetroRGB dear Bob, the video was awesome! I always enjoy your videos! i said it for laughs of course. I deeply apologize if it heard otherwise! Its really doesn't matter... I Love and appreciate and acknowledge the time and effort you put on each and every video , and it shows. And above all, thanks!!!
