  • When the opportunity to pick up the Bakeneko65 CNC brought with it a momentary pause. Did I really want a Bakeneko65? I toyed with the idea but never really pulled the trigger because, while the board has a certain target demographic is serves well, I generally didn't see myself as part of the demo. For the past year I've mostly enjoyed the ever popular POM plate, PE foam, and Poron laden sound profile that has engrossed a good bit of the community but recently I've been deviating from that norm. So yeah, I needed a Bakeneko65. Pull up a chair, couch, or cooler and join me on this adventure today, won't you?

    Interesting board and glad I finally got one to dig into. I look forward to trying to refine the sound. How would you have built it differently to get a nice deep clack? Let me know in the comments!

    bakeneko is such a good board and its definitely a clack machine for sure, i think it still holds up in late 2022 because there's still not that many options with regards to gummy o ring boards unlike gasket mount

    I built a cast Bakeneko65 for a gaming buddy of mine. I did it completely foam free, and put Glorious Panda's in it. Overall it sounded really nice, and it was a more involved build process than anything I'd done to that point. I really enjoyed putting it together and he's liking it so far. I'd definitely recommend this board to someone who wanted a unique 65% build!

    With the cast Bakeneko60, I like enough polyfill just to fully cover across inside the case when stretched out thinly into a gauze. With that amount, I think it doesn't alter the overall character too much but makes the switches sound louder - my JWICK Blacks also sound deeper for it (nylon) - and pretty much removes excess ping. It doesn't affect the feel. If you don't mind getting a little farther from the original sound, you can add more. I don't know if this would differ with the CNC 65 with the internal weight.

      Extras are pre-order typically. You'll need to check with your specific vendor to determine ship times.

      Definitely check out some EU vendors and see what's available. Might also check to see how much shipping is from China direct.

    Hi great video! Just curious, is the bakeneko65 CNC still good for thocc sounds instead of clacky? If not, are there any easy mods I can add to make it a little more thoccier?

    • @punkshoo

      Sure is! My buddy who sent me the board had a really solid deep sounding build with a POM plate and loaded down with foams. Sounded really good. You should check it out! ruclips.net/video/hLNsOKMM1Xk/видео.html

    did you have any issues popping the switches into the plate? I cant seem to get mine to go into the plate flush so often times when I'm typing they pop right out and no matter how hard I push them in they wont snap!!!

    • @punkshoo
      @punkshoo  Год назад +1

      I did not. When assembling be sure to pull the plate up to the correct height on the switch. Softer plates can be like that sometimes and need extra help. If you're having a hard time of it you can use a switch pull to grab the slots around the switch you're trying to level and pull up on the plate. Hope this helps!

    I just built mine this past weekend. I think I went in the wrong direction...I went QK65, TofuJr, Bakeneko65 lol
    SUPER easy build and definitely clacky. I would like to get a PC/POM plate (personal preference) but I had purchased an extra foam kit with my TofuJr and took this opportunity to at least pad the bottom of the case with the case foam and slotted PE foam between the PCB and plate. It definitely came out less clacky. I also have some pretty "clacky switches" in there as just an initial build, so I'm anticipating once I get some of my preferred lubed switches in there and maybe swap out the keycaps (currently using DCX), I might get it to be a little bit deeper. Not a lot, but at least not a major clack machine.
    Great little board all things considered though and I think it's great for beginners. I just wish that maybe it was... slightly cheaper? We're seeing some of these new budget entry boards around the $100 mark now. At $150, I think this is a little...overpriced. I know I know, the cult following will tear me to pieces, but for like $19-39 more, you could have bought a QK65 or TofuJr during the pre-order/GB runs
