The recent resignation of Robert Morris, the well-known megachurch pastor, amid serious allegations of sexual assault and inappropriate behavior, has significantly impacted the landscape of modern evangelicalism, raising numerous concerns about the integrity of church leadership and the effectiveness of existing accountability mechanisms. Morris, who founded Gateway Church in 2000, built a substantial following with his dynamic preaching and focus on practical theology, quickly becoming a prominent figure in the evangelical community. Gateway Church flourished under his leadership, expanding to multiple campuses and attracting tens of thousands of members. Morris also authored several best-selling books and was a frequent speaker at national conferences and on Christian television networks, making him a household name among evangelicals. However, the recent accusations have cast a long shadow over his ministry and have raised critical questions about the internal culture and governance of megachurches.
The allegations, brought forth by several women, claim that Morris engaged in sexual assault and inappropriate behavior over several years. These claims, corroborated by multiple sources, suggest a pattern of misconduct that went unchecked for a significant period. The initial shock and disbelief within Gateway Church have given way to a more profound sense of betrayal and disillusionment among its members. Trust, a fundamental cornerstone of any religious institution, has been severely undermined, leading to a crisis of confidence within the congregation. This erosion of trust is likely to have several immediate and long-term consequences for the church.

From CC’s own account the Matt 18 process was implemented when RM’s sins /crimes were exposed, CC’s parents made a decision not to report the sexual assaults to the police and a then 16 year old CC also chose not to file a police report. The leadership in the church(s) complied with the parents and CC’s decisions not to notify the police.
RM submitted to the church leaderships discipline/correction and CC and her parents approved of the process and according to CC, both she and her parents forgave RM.
This deal was ‘saucered and blowed’ by all the principal parties decades ago.
But it seems CC had her fingers crossed, behind her back, and now it’s all nullified.
RM has lots of money…now and he has to pay: $25,000.00 or $50,00.00 or $2,000,000.00 or whatever a jury decides. If CC had just reported it to the police when was a 16 year old young woman, then RM would have been found guilty and sentenced to prisión and CC would have the justice she claims she is due…a pound of flesh,…but no cash.
If RM deliberately deceived Gateway leadership when he was being considered for pulpit meister, or subsequently, then he is accountable to them and the congregation. He has to confess, repent and ask forgiveness and make restitution as they determine.
CC is free to pursue a civil suit and I hope she does and I hope RM refuses an out of court settlement and opts for a trial before a jury. Then we will have all the available facts and we can reach an informed conclusion based on the established facts.

Cindy, I think you are the most horrible person 35 years later. How you could do this to such a reform ed man. God will get you back. You are descbrible.

Everyone has sinned, but what he did was a crime that is punishable by law, except the time has expired to do that. He was not truthful about what he did to a CHILD. He referred to Cindy as a young lady. SHE WAS A LITTLE GIRL!!! Even though he repented, he should not have been in ministry after that, EVER!!!, He is a pedophile and should be named as such for life. Your response to a VICTIM, is outrageous! If he would have destroyed your life at 12 years old and continued the abuse for over 4 years, your life would have been destroyed like Cindy's life has been. Dr. Phil says abuse changes who you are. You need to apologize to Cindy for your outrageous judgment of her. Abuse is a life long sentence, especially for a child who will never get over what he did to her for his own sick gratification. Mr. Morris is the PERPETRATOR!

      Questions for your further consideration:
Would you feel the same level of unwavering support and find it as easily to shame the victim if Robert Morris had done this to a 12 year old CHILD that you love for 4 1/2 years?
Would you have still followed him as a moral and spiritual authority had you known long ago that his indiscretion was in fact with a child, and not an affair with a young woman?
No one is celebrating his fall. It is a tragedy that has long reaching effects. This coming out has nothing to do with God’s grace or His forgiveness. However, this was a CRIME against a CHILD... A CHILD. There are consequences for such crimes. Most men go to prison.
The response by many Christians is similar to yours, is having devastating effects on Christianity. Perhaps it’s easy to dismiss his crimes and exclusively recite God’s forgiveness while berating the victim, when you didn’t know the child and Robert’s crimes didn’t affect you personally. I worry that this Christian church-wide denial and victim shaming will have the greatest negative effect on the Christian Church as a whole.
