It's honestly not that impressive. He put up better hitting numbers in 2023 WHILE also being an ace level pitcher. If you don't believe me, look up his hitting stats from 2023, higher OBP, SLUG, and OPS. And this was with Micky Moniak hitting behind him. He lapped the entire MLB in WAR before he got injured. The gap between his WAR and the 2nd highest WAR was greater than the gap between the 2nd highest WAR and 10th highest WAR in MLB. You haven't seen anything yet. Wait till he comes back and pitches like Glasnow and Yamamoto.

Currently on pace for 50 home runs, 200 hits, 117 RBIs, 130 runs, 42 doubles, 38 steals, and .315 BA. These ANNIHILATE his 2023 stats. Hell, he almost has the same offensive WAR already as he did all of last season. For an injured pitcher, that is incredible.
In my opinion I would rather have Othani become our closer pitch less innings so he avoids risking an injury that can cause him from not hitting. If I was the dodgers I would tell him to just concentrate on hitting and closing. We have enough money to buy pitchers or trade for them. Remember Othani is here for the long run. If we would of signed him for 3 to 4 years. Then yeah let him start and DH.
He will become an even better hitter when he gets back to pitching. Pitching helps him as a hitter because he can figure out what the opposing pitcher is thinking. That's what he said in an interview back in 2021. We have not yet seen peak Ohtani.

We need his offense foe the next 10 years. I care less if he's a starter. We have enough money to get big name pitchers or we can trade for them.

I don't buy the narrative that he is only good because he is focusing on hitting. In 2023, he had a .304/.412/.654/1.064 slash line. In 2024, he is hitting "just" .315/.401/.638/1.037. He had a better OBP, Slugging, and OPS in 2023 than this year WHILE pitching. Not only that, but he had Micky Moniak protecting him on the Angels in 2023 as Trout was out most of the season. With that said, Evan Phillips with another dud today. I don't trust anyone in that bullpen in a big spot against the Phillies or Yankees in the playoffs.

Has he ramped up to throwing upper 90's yet? With Evan Phillips faltering, he will need to come in from the bullpen for some key saves in October.
