@@optimisticoutreach1236 It's pleasing when you're standing on stage and have sung the same song hundreds/thousands of time and the foreign audience sings along it is validating, reassuring that they are having a party with you.
Really thinking back on the first show when sheep opened for them, these people were ecstatic to be their and hear the music grew up with. Sheep wrote a song called time machine tour that, from what I was able to pull from the Japanese lyrics, was basically about how you don't walk into a store and hear them playing this music. They had wished they could go back to the nostalgic good old days for a bit and that's what this concert was. No one could guarantee another show in Japan.
Enjoying the music we all remember and love. Music that made us move and groove in our youth. Timeless classic tunes. Thanks Pilot, you all know how to fly.
Pilot's music always makes me smile, and it epitomizes everything I love about the pop music of that era. And if there's ever been a more compelling lead singer than David Paton, I haven't seen him. Pure joy, there.
Absolutely. It got under my skin the first time I heard it when it came out. To this day it's sounds so fresh and happy. It lifts my spirits every time. So many songs in the '70's songs were like that. Pilot was a very good band, especially for the young fans. Innocent, catchy fun tunes.
I'm 83 and just became a real fan 2 years ago. It's possible to live your life in music and sometimes paths just don't cross. No one has experienced all the music.
New fan...can't stop started with that Ozambic commercial and thought "I love Magic lemme finally hear the whole song" got sucked in now I'm at the bottom of the rabbit whole and I'm not climbing up
I was 10 when January was released. I didn't know it at the time...but the beautifully crafted melodic & harmonic qualities of this song would be forever engraved into my musical DNA. I can only dream of writing such great music...thank-you so much David for your gift to the world! Best wishes from Australia!
@ 6:43, I always think of this riff when I hear the ending solo of Keyakizaka46's "Silent Majority". I love how the creative spirit travels through time and cultures, always inspiring the next generation. In recent times, I've observed that many songs produced by Japan's Idol groups pay homage to the signature sounds of music I grew up with in the 1960's, 70's, and 80's. My hat is off to the songwriters and their encyclopedic knowledge of such long forgotten inspirations as Hammond B3 organs, Captain and Tennille, and yes, even Pilot to name but a few; those grooves hit just as hard in today's songs as when I first heard them!
Hi David. Your Album of the Same Name was the first record album I ever bought in 74 or 75! Believe it or not I still have it and still play it! Always transports me back to when I was about 13 and the 70s. I know it still surprises you but some of your songs are going to live forever!! Good luck and best wishes.
I’m having a David Paton Day today and enjoying every minute of it! Great music from a great musician. Thank you for continuing to share your gift David 😊
Listening to Pilot each time, is like listening to them for the very first time! Great Music, Great Band! I've Loved Pilot since I was a very young boy.......Magic!! :-)
Thanks David, for the songs that made my university years. Always used to play them on the jukebox when we took a late night jaunt out to the motorway cafe on the A2, just outside Canterbury in the 70's. Great times, great music and a pleasure to be able to say so here.
I came home from work this afternoon with your song "Magic" in my mind's ear, so I pulled it up on RUclips and listened, and remembered so much from those days (I was a sophomore in high school in 1974). It makes me very happy to see that you were still doing what you love to do when this video was made, and I earnestly hope you are still playing and singing. I hope you still have that cool old Rickenbacher bass too. :) God bless!
David, I had the 45 single of Magic and wore the grooves out. I do not know how I ever missed the single January on the airwaves but I did. I watched the video of Magic and saw all of the other tunes. I have had January in my head for 2 days now. How did I miss this great song?? I have spent the last 2 evenings listening to all the Pilot songs on RUclips. I am sorry but I thought Pilot was a one hit wonder. Several of your songs could have been HUGE hits here in the states. Alan Parsons Project is one of my favorite bands. I had no clue that Pilot became the Alan Parsons Project!! I purchased all of the Pilot cds and I am going to purchase all of your solo work as well. What a talent you are, and you seem like such a cool great guy!! Pilot and Paton will be the only music on my system for a long time! Thank you for all the WONDERFUL music you have recorded
Still sounding and looking good, David. Thank you and your bandmates for the great music. You got me through my awkward middle school years. Magic was Magical. RIP Billy.
I'll tell ya David this brings me to tears...real tears. Chokes me up a lot. I mean as a song writer/musician, pop devote and melody fanatic, hearing the audience sing like this with you......it's just so beautiful and life affirming. We met in Glasgow in 2009 I think when I was with Brian Wilson. NB
Every time I hear PILOT and the voice of David I start to shiver. My young days are coming back. And it doesn't matter that now David's voise is a bit deeper. At last it is the way of the compositions, the melody, the sound and my memories that makes me saying thank you David. What about a concert in germany? Somewhere near cologne?
Thank you for your answer. And I'll gonna try to come to the concert. Hope to find out when and where. I'll gonna keep my eyes open....with Albert Hammond? Whow, another big favorite musician of mine. And a great composer as well.....
Hey David my name is Alec, I'm a young musician myself, 20, and watching you smile as everyone in the crowd is belting your tune(It's Magic) 30+ years later is nothing short of a musicians greatest accomplishments, you've reached legendary status my man and im about to learn all the parts to that song and teach it to my buddies and force them to play it with me😂 Godspeed!
How I do recall all this magical ages to date far away I was 17 in 1975 , my father with 48 years my mum with 35 years , my school first share who is fadeaway from me 40 years ago. Now I am 60 with a lovely grandsons and granddaughters Thank you
Just came across this. Still two of the greatest pop songs ever. Great to see how appreciative the crowd are of you and you of the crowd. Thanks for the memories.
Wow you still sound so great David!!! It'd be a dream to see Pilot for me. But living in the states that would be hard. Too bad Morin Heights was not released here.....it would have done really well I think and perhaps things would be different. I love you guys and glad you're still making great music. Thank you for many years of inspiration and love.
Great songs still hit you the same way they did, when you first heard them and transport you back to that place, that time and those people again; both of these pop beauties do that for me,every time-wonder if she still feels the same!
Rest in peace Ian Bairnson of Pilot. Today a friend has left us.
Bring back memories of 70's School days.....and a better time.
It must be an amazing feeling to hear the audience of another culture and language sing the chorus to your song. It must be incredible,

Must be a rush when the crowd chimes in with the chorus of Magic like that...complete with the proper handclaps!
If you were there watching Top Of The Pops in the 70's, I bet this makes you feel years younger!
Thank you poster.
Classic song. Great memories.
