  • Anaheim Ducks forward Antoine Vermette gets called for "Abuse of Officials" which is exactly what it sounds like, as he swung his stick hitting a linesman when he wasn't looking.

    he will get 20 games for making a slash towards a linesmen but nyquist will get like 7 for slashing a guy in the face and almost hitting his eye.. yep your doing a good job nhl👏

    • @AngusArtEntertainment
      @AngusArtEntertainment 7 лет назад

      David Wall They also base suspension length on previous incidents. Did Nyquist have any previous offenses? If so, then however many he had would play into it, but if not, we'll see.
      But as far as linesman abuse goes, the lengths might be predetermined.

  • @OmegaHumphryWolf
    @OmegaHumphryWolf 7 лет назад +111

    Everyone is calling Vermette an idiot for what he did. If you actually watched this game, you would understand how absolutely terrible the refs and linesman were this game, for both teams. He gave him a pretty soft slash for dropping the puck when he wasnt even set up for the faceoff. All things considered, the officials need to be put in their place for being so horrifically awful this season

    • @BeatIoaf
      @BeatIoaf 7 лет назад +52

      I'm with okay here. Slashing an official doesn't justify for bad officiating. Doesn't matter if it's soft or not. He hit an official with his stick and you don't hit or touch an official EVER. It's a straight up dumb move that could get him suspended.

    I know people are saying "oh the officials in this game was awful" or "the refs ruined this game", but there is no excuse for what Vermette did here. Regardless of what happened before the faceoff, you can NOT slash or put your hands on an official... PERIOD. You can debate whether it's intent to injure or not, but in my book, he intentionally slashed the linesman and was dealt with appropriately by being given a game misconduct for abuse of an official. The penalty was justified and if you think it's not the right call, go read the rule book. Dumb penalty that could get him a suspension or a phone call from the NHL.

    Definitely not a Ducks fan here, but take a second look at where the puck was when Vermette swiped the ref. At ice level, with traffic blocking his line of sight, it's possible all he saw was a Wild player's stick making a play to push the puck up the ice. Vermette goes for where the puck would be had it been played up the ice. Ref just happened to be in the way. Not justifying it, but it's worth considering this scenario

  • @gregersen1926

    The linesman double-clutched on the puck drop; Vermette obviously was ready, then put his stick up. The linesman then dropped the puck. Vermette taps the linesman and probably said, "that was an awful puck drop, gosh darn it."
    Should not have done that. Terrible drop but you can't mess with officials. See you in five or six games.

    Vermette placed his stick on the ice signalling that he was ready for the faceoff. Once that happens the linesman is free to drop the puck at any time, assuming he's happy with the positioning of all players on the ice. This wasn't a bad drop, Vermette wasn't ready for the faceoff despite signalling that he was and decided to be a big-ass baby about it.

    How good or bad the officials are has absolutely, positively nothing to do with what Vermette did. You don't hit an official, ever. I'm not at all shocked that he got a 10 game suspension. The possible length of a suspension goes way up if you hit an official instead of a player... and it should. Yell at the ref, curse him out ... you don't slash him.

    Should have been ejected from the game. Not only did he hit an abuse an offical, not only was the puck out of his reach AND traveling away from him, but he swung and hit him when the officials back was turned. The players a coward.

    Worse is they exposed how to defeat the Wild. Get a lead and then play all defensively. Oh and have a goaltender playing remarkably well.
