@@TheIvasyl Yes! Something to note though: "on" is a single vowel sound in French (it is not a "o" followed by a "n" like in the English word "dragon"). If you want to pronounce "on", you have to take the same "o" as in "not" and get the air out of your nose instead of your mouth.
Honestly, not really. Yeah, Toussaint is in a valley in the middle of mountains but "across the sea" is a lot more important as it pinpoints exactly where this princess was from, which in this case is from Skellige, rather than any other place in the continent.
tbh it's probably just that it sounds better in French (source : I'm French), and the role of a translator is not always to keep the exact sentence, but to keep the idea behind the words. The mountains have the idea of mystery because you don't know what's behind, and the limit of the map in TW3 is the Blue Mountains, we don't know what's there after that ; when I played I thought of the Elven Queen (of which I unfortunately forgot the name). I loved this game so much because I think the translation in French is perfect, it is very well written, very poetic with very good voice acting, so I think there are other moments like that where it's not exactly matching. Beside this change, I know there are a lot of other references to French culture (when you play in French) in these Toussaint cemeteries (my personal favorite is to Les Inconnus for those who know them). The translators just had fun here

Not 100% sure if it was to be False Ciri or not, but I have worked with the model files of TW3 before (as you know) and when finding Cerys's files, they are actually labelled as Becca, not Ceyrs. Not sure if Becca was False Ciri's name, an alias or perhaps Becca is just someone else entirely, but the more you know ✨
@@neros398 Becca is not a nordic / celtic name unlike the rest of the Skellige names, but rather Mediterranean like other Cintrian names so it could very well be false-Ciri's real name. It seems likely to me that the missing plot arc is that Emyr has lost the faith of the Nilfgaardian nobles because the truth about false-ciri came out (hence the whole possibility for Ciri to become Empress) and she had gone into hiding / seeking refuge among the Skellige clans (hence why Nilfgaard is readying a fleet to attack Skellige). I think in order for her to play the same role as Cerys it would have to mean that Crach is fooled by false-Ciri and thus thinks false-Ciri has a valid claim to the throne via Eist, which might be the reason it was cut since having all the Skelligens fooled in quite unrealistic.
There's a concept art somewhere in the Internet of the Skellige queen epilogue with someone who looks like Ciri in Cerys's place. Can I add links here?
When Geralt first meet Angouleme he mistakes her for Ciri for a few seconds. Later when Geralt's hansa traveled to Toussaint, Angouleme was liking it there, making friends with knights and noblemen. So when she dies in Stygga Castle maybe someone discovered the body, or even, brought her back to Toussaint to be buried and mistaken her for Ciri, but why take her to Toussaint and not Cintra in this case, very fragile theory very likely false. I think the devs just wanted to put more of an easter egg more than an actual fact. So yeah, i dont think there is much to think about this one
But it still a very beautifull theory. And i like the idea of Angoulem finding peace in the dirt of the land she loved:) (instead the fact that yeah, her grave is near of the traumatic place wich Stygga is :'(
I'll try to keep it short. Ciri is not the first "swallow", she is called like that because she descends from the "swallow" Lara Dorren. I guess that stone is not a tomb, but a Memorial for Lara Dorren. Even when there are more than one in the game (I think), the one in Toussaint fits pretty well, since her human consort was Cregennan de Lod, whose home land is not clear in the books (or I can't remember), but his name sounds a lot Toussaint'esque if you ask me. After you point it out, I went for a quick search in the books and Internet (just to be sure) soooo.... there"s no mention saying that Lara means "gull" and no mention saying Lara doesn't mean 'gull". It's clear that Tor Lara is the Tower of the Gull and Tor Zirael is the Tower of the Swallow, and I couldn't found the line where Avallach says to Ciri something like "you're Lara's blood and a swallow, like she was a gull" or "you're Lara's blood and a swallow, like her before you". Anyway... yours is a good point, maybe what I wrote is a mistake, not sure now. But take for granted that my words weren't something detrimental for the video, was just a piece of information in my head. Lara as the name is meant to be pronounced with emphasis in the first A, while Lara as the "gull" and the elven word, is meant to have emphasis in the second A. It doesn't means that Lara Dorren is not "the gull", but Tor Lara is not meant to be interpreted as the name, but as a reference to the animal. I guess it makes sense since the other tower is Zirael and not the Tower of Cirilla

I checked it, in the Polish language version: "L'Hirondelle Księżniczka z zamorskich krain", what means: "L'Hirondelle Princess from overseas". And I checked it out when I was playing only the Blood and Wine DLC, without the main story.

A while ago i finished the game and the expansions so i felt this void of not enjoying this anymore. But then i said to myselft i will be like Xletalis and fool around the game. Doing this i found silly things like the fire priest outside the temple in novigrad who sell you herbs semi legally, then i lost count of time and spend hours like this. I am just happy for not feeling bore with the game, its enjoyable beyond scope.
I'm not an expert on languages and cultures, but maybe across the mountains and across the seas is an expression used for lands that are far, far away. My country uses 'behind seven seas and behind seven hills' as such. So I could argue that in English the expression is usually said 'across seas' which culturally makes sense, as 'across mountains' make in French.
In South-East of France (Italian frontier) we have the idiom "Transalpin" (transalpine in English) meaning across and/or behind the Alpes. But it doesn't exist for the Pyrénées, the mountains frontier with Spain.
In Polish there is an idiom 'za siedmioma górami, za siedmioma morzami', which translates to 'beyond seven mountains, beyond seven seas' and it means 'somewhere very far away'. 'Zamorskie krainy' (lands overseas ) can be treated literally, but it was also used as a fairy tale-like description of foreign lands. It is a quite common way to start fairy tales in general, like 'long, long time ago, beyond the seas, beyond the mountains, a princess lived'. I think all the variations of this gravestone in different languages are meant to invoke that. Also, fun fact, in the Polish version of W3 'From a Land Far, Far Away' quest (Skelige/Ursten one) is actually called 'Za siedmioma morzami'.
For me it looks more like the actual Ciri became very old and had chosen to travel in time and die in the older Toussaint (before the vampires event makes sens).
I play in the spanish version and it says "princesa de unas tierras al otro lado de las montañas" which basically translates as princess from a land on the othe side of the mountains, and the name remains in french
This may actually be one of the most surprising discoveries, especially since I have really not seen a single (very important) easter egg which is totally dependent on the language you use, but I suppose it's somewhat logical since Toussaint is based on France and Italy To be fair, it most likely is the grave of False Ciri, it simply makes more sense (with some "background" lore), but I would also mention that "from across the sea" may in fact reference (real) Ciri's connection to Skellige, and the sea part may represent a metaphor, and not a literal reference to where she was from
I also thought about Ciri's connection with Skellige when "beyond the seas" was mentioned. It could also be a stretch because whoever carved the inscription would've had to know about it, but since Ciri is the Lady of Times and Places and has traveled across world, it's safe to assume she's crossed more than one sea. Maybe she's traveled back in time and some point and died decades later (her timeline, before Geralt arrives to Toussaint in the world's timeline), in Toussaint, after settling there. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if she settled with someone, say a few decades before events from books and games take place, and that someone outlived her and placed that grave for her, they'd probably know about her "nickname" too.

Brazilian girl here! In the Portuguese version, the name is also written in French and the line underneath it says "princesa de uma terra além das montanhas", which means "princess from a land beyond the mountains". Just the same as in French
Holy shit, i found the same grave and thought "a Princess from a distant land? Kinda sounds like Ciri". This is why learning new languages can be an extremely powerful tool when looking for knowledge.
Although it's not directly related to the topic of your video, the gravestones in Blood and Wine are always a peculiar matter. I once talked about it with Filip Ženíšek, Czech localization lead during the development of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, and he told me that initially, three gravestones in Blood and Wine mentioned totally unimportant people, so the translators were allowed to translate or rewrite them however they wanted. These gravestones were unfortunately cut later in the development, seemingly at the time when the idea to fill the graveyards with numerous references to several CDPR employees was born. But Mr. Ženíšek liked this idea so much that he decided to once again find some gravestones of unimportant people (because he didn't want to rewrite any of the CDPR references) and change them. The result? Even today they are reffering to the members of the Czech localization team. And it seems that other translators from other countries had similar ideas. So every language version of The Witcher 3 might actually contain some unique names and descriptions not available in other languages Also, maybe it was not exactly your intention, but I love the fact that we can see the showrunner of the Netflix series at the very moment during which you talk about people who never read the books... Edit: I just checked the game and it says "L'Hirondelle - Princezna ze záhoří" in the Czech version, which is the same as "Princess from beyond the mountains". The name has not changed
Hi xLetalis! I´m a huge fan of both Witcher 3 and your videos since lockdown. Anyway, I tried reading the gravestone in German, Spanish, Italian and English and there was an even spread between "beyond the mountains" and "across the seas". German, Italian and English have the epitaph say "across the seas", while Spanish and French have "from beyond the mountains". Perhaps there is an etimological context for this discrepancy in the epitaph.
In a piece of leaked cut content from TW3, false Ciri was supposed to make an appearance in Skelliege under the name of “Becca”. And Becca is the name used in the Cerys's files in TW3, they are actually labelled as Becca, not Cerys. And Cerys is a name very similar to Ciri, dont you think?! So i think this is it.
I don't know what to say about that grave... But my guts would say, and probably would love it to be like that as well, Ciri doesn't die in any of the endings: I believe that in the worst ending, Geralt thinks Ciri is dead because she never came back to meet him after defeating the White Frost, therefore he goes to hunt the last Lady of the Wood, after he defeats her and the monster attacks, Ciri comes to the rescue at the last second and save him by teleporting him to safety. OFC this is only my speculations and i hope thats how The Witcher 4 will continue with the story. I don't believe CDPR will actually end up creating a new game without first connecting it to the last entry. I also believe that we will be playing as Ciri in the 4th game.... And like we had in The Witcher 3, where we had a option to answer a few questions regarding what we did in Witcher 2, i believe we will have the same for The Witcher 4, a few questions in order to make the gameplay make sense with our playthrough from the previous game played ... I would be happy to hear that im wrong about this. But like i said... i don't think CDPR will make the 4th instalment of the series without the BIG 2 from the previous game....

The footage you roll in the background is killing me everytime! Emhyr locked false Ciri in a castle the name of I can't remember, but it was somewhere on the outskirts of Nilfgaard so people won't see her too much and forget about her. She was kidnapped and conditioned ruthlessly to love him and ended up developing a Stockholm syndrome but he did truly feel bad for her and it ultimately wasn't his fault.
the thought of her dying is heartbreaking ... l almost lost my youngest daughter ... l always relate to Geralt in this aspect. Thank you for your posts , they bring relief from the bad news of this world.
In czech version it says: "Princezna ze záhoří." wich means "Princess from beyond the mountains" when translated. It is interesting that it doesn't say same thing as polish version because polish language is lot closer to czech language than to france language.

In Traditional Chinese, the name on the gravestone is not related to Ciri or swallow, but they did have a same 1st word. (e.g. ABC vs ADE, they both have A at the very 1st of the name) Btw the description says "Princess from a land far across the seas" in Chinese

This sounds to me like either a mistake or an oversight. Perhaps they had something planned at some point, but it got cut and they forgot/were too lazy to remove the gravestone. In the case that they were too lazy they might have removed the names from all translations but the one the stone is on itself (where the people could check it itself). Whatever it is, unless something radical happens I'll forget about that...

Funny thing is that in French, there are so many French references in Mère Lachaise cimetery. Considering the French/italian inspirations for Blood&Wine, it sounds logical. But I have no clue about what they are in English or Polish. (I talked to you about it before ;-) )
Wow!!! Don't even know what to say other than well done!! Things like this in games which are left ambiguous are just so awesome and to listen you speculate and try to find an explanation, just makes the witcher experience more and more awesome.
There could be multiple explanations. One that the grave belongs to legendary character whose name was an inspiration for places and items in the area. E.g Tower of swallow was constructed before Ciri was born. Or second that Ciri went back in time and lived rest of her life in the times before the grave was placed. Sapkowski didn't really care to explain everything

Yennefer is the one who told Crach in the books. she says "Ciri's not in Nilfgaard" numerous times in her speech about how Geralt isn't gonna save Ciri and Yennefer is, so she needs a Megascope. Also Emhyr did fall for false Ciri "reasons of state be damned." why would false Ciri be buried in Toussaint? she lives all the way in the south in Nilfgaard proper. The grave is also old and lopsided so Ciri must've died a long time ago, I don't see why she eventually time hops into historic Toussaint just to dir but hey, why not? I've seen it theorized that Old Gramps recognized Ciri in LotL because he had killed other versions of Ciri traveling through time and space. Edit: I meant Forest Gramps not old gramps.
This is off topic, but I noticed a small detail recently. It's not as fancy as we see in these videos, but in the quest "Of Dairy and Darkness" Geralt usually jokingly references Vesemir and Lambert. But if you play the quest AFTER either Vesemir, Lambert or both are dead, Geralt doesn't mention them at all. Just think it's cool how CDPR accounted for something so small

Watching Ciri run around like that at the very end of your video made me think at least I'm not the only one who just runs around in circles with something chasing me.
So I have a round-around-the-edges sorta theory regarding this grave: it has to do with Ciri's Time And Space™ abilities, just like Letalis said. At some point in time prior to Geralt visiting Toussaint, Ciri visited Toussaint as well. She introduced herself to locals as The Swallow (if I'm not mistaken, the L' article is The in French), and to avoid further questions, she called herself a princess of faraway lands. She could have then helped somebody, probably poorer people (more on that later), could've killed some archespores, possibly, earned some admiration. But of course Ciri had to travel further, and after she was gone, those she helped either must've thought she died fighting something or left without saying goodbye. So people got her either a memorial or a gravestone in the poorer graveyard (Orlemurs is for poorer people, right?), which said The Swallow (but in French), a princess of faraway lands. Only that I'm not sure whether they really speak French in Toussaint, but they have the accent though.
According to the books, Ciri's status as princess could be questioned in the people of cintra followed the old way to a "t". Codringher suggested using a random girl that would pass as Ciri to afford both Geralt and the real Ciri some freedom.
I like the idea that she spent her life normally and at the end of her days, she travelled through time and space and ended her life in Toussaint. Perhaps even to look a bit at Geralt while he was alive?
Emhyr married fake Ciri, declared her empress, but sent her to live at a castle at the farthest point of the empire to basically be forgotten. They never lived together. Fake Ciri was completely content living in Darn Rowan castle with the 'governess' using Ciri's name but nothing ever came of her. Just faded away into oblivion.
So that's not 100% true, in the books the events are as follows: 1. Emhyr starts his search for Ciri. During the Slaughter of Cintra his men are supposed to pick up Ciri, but they fail, she goes missing, Cahir is imprisoned and so on. 2. Search continues, during the Thanned Coup Cahir is send again to capture Ciri, she escapes through the portal. 3. Rience and Shiriu bring Fake Ciri to Nilfgraard (1267). 4. Emhyr realises that she's not his daughter while meeting her for the first time at the audience in Loc Grim and that's when she is send off to live with Stella in Darn Rowan. 5. Search for True Ciri continues, but Emhyr occasionally visits Fake Ciri. 6. Emhyr meets True Ciri at Stygga Castle and abandons his plans for her. 7. War ends, Peace of Cintra and the wedding take place (1268). 8. ?????? 9. Emhyr dies sometime between 1290 and 1301 (Time of Contempt ch. 5), Fake Ciri dies at some point, Stella outlives them both and dies in 1331 (Lady of the Lake, ch. 10). We don't know what happened to Fake Ciri between the wedding and her death, she may as well been sent off the court, but it is mentioned that Stella was a respected figure in the court due to her connection to the empress, so I think Fake Ciri must have had some relevance there when she was still alive. But that of course cannot be reconciled with the games at all.
I normally play in English, but I just loaded a savegame in Toussaint and checked the tombstone in both German and Spanish. In both versions the "title" is still L'Hirondelle, so no translation. But the descriptions differ. In German it has the same meaning as in English (across the sea), while the Spanish description has the same meaning as in French (over the mountains). Weird, why would this be different in one set of languages for no apparent reason?
I went there too, Iam playing the game in German and it says : "Eine Prinzessin aus einem fernen Königreich jenseits der See." which means the princess from a far land across the seas. The name swallow is also in french. I don't think it is meant to be Ciri's grave maybe just an Easter egg?
When I played the game for the second time, I read this, but after searching a bit I just thought that it's a reference that I don't have or something like that, (I play in French) so it's a new secret to discover !

the grave seems old so I'd go with some time paradox theory, that I'm too bored to thing about in the moment. something like ciri dying in the future and her powers let this grave appear indicating its from a distant past. idk.

Geralt finds a sunken ship on a small island off southern Ard Skellig where he didn't recognize the crest painted on the boat (a rearing zebra on a red background). Take Geralt up the island to the high point and there is a dead body with a book on the ground to loot - the book says 2 ships were enroute to Toussaint or possibly Novigrad. The ship carried a royal and her heir (son) escaping from a far away land and they didn't speak Common. It mentioned Anna Henrietta's name in the book too. Geralt runs into her around Novigrad by the coast - in a cave and she did not speak Common at all. Could this grave be hers? Apparently, she made it to Toussaint, but died just before Geralt arrives there. Literally just did this quest yesterday. LOL

If the game was in Slovakian it would be something like "za siedmimi horami" which means behind or beyond the seven mountains but can also be translated as Far Far Away
Could it be something associated to time travelling concept? Maybe Ciri grew old, came back in time, died and hence the grave. An obscure grave in an obscure place because who at that time would believe she was actually a princess. Dunno tho, didn't read the books but kinda like the idea.
In French, "L' Hirondelle" is a swallow, a bird. It is quite special in the Witcher's Universe. Ciri's name in Elder Speech - elvish - is 'Zireael', or in Common Tongue: 'Swallow'. Then, we've got the potion and Ciri's sword - it was etched with a crooked destiny line leading to a tower hitted by lightning, an eldered symbol for chaos and destruction. Above that tower though, there is a flying swallow, the symbol for 'Hope'. And, the title of the 4th book of the saga 'The Tower of the Swallow' is an incredibly important and magical place. I just want to mention, that some species of Swallows are moving over 40.000 km a year while passing overseas, even to the Antarctic! Isn't that amazing???

It could be a tribute grave for Fake Ciri made by some people from Beauclair. It doesn't make much sense for her real grave to be in a random rundown graveyard in Toussaint, so maybe some residents made her a grave when they got news of her death. Toussaint is a vassal of Nilfgaard after all.

Not 100% sure if it was to be False Ciri or not, but I have worked with the model files of TW3 before (as you know) and when finding Cerys's files, they are actually labelled as Becca, not Ceyrs.
Not sure if Becca was False Ciri's name, an alias or perhaps Becca is just someone else entirely, but the more you know ✨

@@neros398 Becca is not a nordic / celtic name unlike the rest of the Skellige names, but rather Mediterranean like other Cintrian names so it could very well be false-Ciri's real name.
It seems likely to me that the missing plot arc is that Emyr has lost the faith of the Nilfgaardian nobles because the truth about false-ciri came out (hence the whole possibility for Ciri to become Empress) and she had gone into hiding / seeking refuge among the Skellige clans (hence why Nilfgaard is readying a fleet to attack Skellige). I think in order for her to play the same role as Cerys it would have to mean that Crach is fooled by false-Ciri and thus thinks false-Ciri has a valid claim to the throne via Eist, which might be the reason it was cut since having all the Skelligens fooled in quite unrealistic.
There's a concept art somewhere in the Internet of the Skellige queen epilogue with someone who looks like Ciri in Cerys's place. Can I add links here?

Becca is not Mediterranean, it is Hebrew.
When Geralt first meet Angouleme he mistakes her for Ciri for a few seconds. Later when Geralt's hansa traveled to Toussaint, Angouleme was liking it there, making friends with knights and noblemen. So when she dies in Stygga Castle maybe someone discovered the body, or even, brought her back to Toussaint to be buried and mistaken her for Ciri, but why take her to Toussaint and not Cintra in this case, very fragile theory very likely false. I think the devs just wanted to put more of an easter egg more than an actual fact. So yeah, i dont think there is much to think about this one

I'll try to keep it short.
Ciri is not the first "swallow", she is called like that because she descends from the "swallow" Lara Dorren. I guess that stone is not a tomb, but a Memorial for Lara Dorren. Even when there are more than one in the game (I think), the one in Toussaint fits pretty well, since her human consort was Cregennan de Lod, whose home land is not clear in the books (or I can't remember), but his name sounds a lot Toussaint'esque if you ask me.

You may have a point, because of the name. After you point it out, I went for a quick search in the books and Internet (just to be sure) soooo.... there"s no mention saying that Lara means "gull" and no mention saying Lara doesn't mean 'gull". It's clear that Tor Lara is the Tower of the Gull and Tor Zirael is the Tower of the Swallow, and I couldn't found the line where Avallach says to Ciri something like "you're Lara's blood and a swallow, like she was a gull" or "you're Lara's blood and a swallow, like her before you". Anyway... yours is a good point, maybe what I wrote is a mistake, not sure now. But take for granted that my words weren't something detrimental for the video, was just a piece of information in my head. Ok, so finally I got at least a bit of context!
Lara as the name is meant to be pronounced with emphasis in the first A, while Lara as the "gull" and the elven word, is meant to have emphasis in the second A. It doesn't means that Lara Dorren is not "the gull", but Tor Lara is not meant to be interpreted as the name, but as a reference to the animal. I guess it makes sense since the other tower is Zirael and not the Tower of Cirilla
I agree that Ciri is not the only swallow. There are also the enhanced swallow and the superior swallow.

A while ago i finished the game and the expansions so i felt this void of not enjoying this anymore. But then i said to myselft i will be like Xletalis and fool around the game. Doing this i found silly things like the fire priest outside the temple in novigrad who sell you herbs semi legally, then i lost count of time and spend hours like this. I am just happy for not feeling bore with the game, its enjoyable beyond scope.
I'm not an expert on languages and cultures, but maybe across the mountains and across the seas is an expression used for lands that are far, far away. My country uses 'behind seven seas and behind seven hills' as such. So I could argue that in English the expression is usually said 'across seas' which culturally makes sense, as 'across mountains' make in French.

In South-East of France (Italian frontier)
we have the idiom "Transalpin" (transalpine in English) meaning across and/or behind the Alpes. But it doesn't exist for the Pyrénées, the mountains frontier with Spain.
In Polish there is an idiom 'za siedmioma górami, za siedmioma morzami', which translates to 'beyond seven mountains, beyond seven seas' and it means 'somewhere very far away'. 'Zamorskie krainy' (lands overseas ) can be treated literally, but it was also used as a fairy tale-like description of foreign lands. It is a quite common way to start fairy tales in general, like 'long, long time ago, beyond the seas, beyond the mountains, a princess lived'. I think all the variations of this gravestone in different languages are meant to invoke that.
Also, fun fact, in the Polish version of W3 'From a Land Far, Far Away' quest (Skelige/Ursten one) is actually called 'Za siedmioma morzami'.

For me it looks more like the actual Ciri became very old and had chosen to travel in time and die in the older Toussaint (before the vampires event makes sens).

This may actually be one of the most surprising discoveries, especially since I have really not seen a single (very important) easter egg which is totally dependent on the language you use, but I suppose it's somewhat logical since Toussaint is based on France and Italy
To be fair, it most likely is the grave of False Ciri, it simply makes more sense (with some "background" lore), but I would also mention that "from across the sea" may in fact reference (real) Ciri's connection to Skellige, and the sea part may represent a metaphor, and not a literal reference to where she was from
I also thought about Ciri's connection with Skellige when "beyond the seas" was mentioned. It could also be a stretch because whoever carved the inscription would've had to know about it, but since Ciri is the Lady of Times and Places and has traveled across world, it's safe to assume she's crossed more than one sea. Maybe she's traveled back in time and some point and died decades later (her timeline, before Geralt arrives to Toussaint in the world's timeline), in Toussaint, after settling there. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if she settled with someone, say a few decades before events from books and games take place, and that someone outlived her and placed that grave for her, they'd probably know about her "nickname" too.

Holy shit, i found the same grave and thought "a Princess from a distant land? Kinda sounds like Ciri". This is why learning new languages can be an extremely powerful tool when looking for knowledge.
Although it's not directly related to the topic of your video, the gravestones in Blood and Wine are always a peculiar matter. I once talked about it with Filip Ženíšek, Czech localization lead during the development of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, and he told me that initially, three gravestones in Blood and Wine mentioned totally unimportant people, so the translators were allowed to translate or rewrite them however they wanted. These gravestones were unfortunately cut later in the development, seemingly at the time when the idea to fill the graveyards with numerous references to several CDPR employees was born. But Mr. Ženíšek liked this idea so much that he decided to once again find some gravestones of unimportant people (because he didn't want to rewrite any of the CDPR references) and change them. The result? Even today they are reffering to the members of the Czech localization team. And it seems that other translators from other countries had similar ideas. So every language version of The Witcher 3 might actually contain some unique names and descriptions not available in other languages
Also, maybe it was not exactly your intention, but I love the fact that we can see the showrunner of the Netflix series at the very moment during which you talk about people who never read the books...

I´m a huge fan of both Witcher 3 and your videos since lockdown.
Anyway, I tried reading the gravestone in German, Spanish, Italian and English and there was an even spread between "beyond the mountains" and "across the seas". German, Italian and English have the epitaph say "across the seas", while Spanish and French have "from beyond the mountains".
Perhaps there is an etimological context for this discrepancy in the epitaph.

In a piece of leaked cut content from TW3, false Ciri was supposed to make an appearance in Skelliege under the name of “Becca”. And Becca is the name used in the Cerys's files in TW3, they are actually labelled as Becca, not Cerys. And Cerys is a name very similar to Ciri, dont you think?! So i think this is it.
hm, that is an interesting point, the similarities of the names. Cerys is also almost a princess :)
I don't know what to say about that grave... But my guts would say, and probably would love it to be like that as well, Ciri doesn't die in any of the endings:
I believe that in the worst ending, Geralt thinks Ciri is dead because she never came back to meet him after defeating the White Frost, therefore he goes to hunt the last Lady of the Wood, after he defeats her and the monster attacks, Ciri comes to the rescue at the last second and save him by teleporting him to safety.
OFC this is only my speculations and i hope thats how The Witcher 4 will continue with the story. I don't believe CDPR will actually end up creating a new game without first connecting it to the last entry.
I also believe that we will be playing as Ciri in the 4th game.... And like we had in The Witcher 3, where we had a option to answer a few questions regarding what we did in Witcher 2, i believe we will have the same for The Witcher 4, a few questions in order to make the gameplay make sense with our playthrough from the previous game played ...
I would be happy to hear that im wrong about this. But like i said... i don't think CDPR will make the 4th instalment of the series without the BIG 2 from the previous game....

Emhyr locked false Ciri in a castle the name of I can't remember, but it was somewhere on the outskirts of Nilfgaard so people won't see her too much and forget about her. She was kidnapped and conditioned ruthlessly to love him and ended up developing a Stockholm syndrome but he did truly feel bad for her and it ultimately wasn't his fault.
the thought of her dying is heartbreaking ... l almost lost my youngest daughter ... l always relate to Geralt in this aspect. Thank you for your posts , they bring relief from the bad news of this world.
In czech version it says: "Princezna ze záhoří." wich means "Princess from beyond the mountains" when translated. It is interesting that it doesn't say same thing as polish version because polish language is lot closer to czech language than to france language.

In Traditional Chinese, the name on the gravestone is not related to Ciri or swallow, but they did have a same 1st word.

This sounds to me like either a mistake or an oversight.
Perhaps they had something planned at some point, but it got cut and they forgot/were too lazy to remove the gravestone. In the case that they were too lazy they might have removed the names from all translations but the one the stone is on itself (where the people could check it itself).
Whatever it is, unless something radical happens I'll forget about that...
This gravestone was made by Geralt and Ciri, so that Emhyr would surely believe them. 😂👍

There could be multiple explanations. One that the grave belongs to legendary character whose name was an inspiration for places and items in the area. E.g Tower of swallow was constructed before Ciri was born. Or second that Ciri went back in time and lived rest of her life in the times before the grave was placed. Sapkowski didn't really care to explain everything

Yennefer is the one who told Crach in the books. she says "Ciri's not in Nilfgaard" numerous times in her speech about how Geralt isn't gonna save Ciri and Yennefer is, so she needs a Megascope. Also Emhyr did fall for false Ciri "reasons of state be damned." why would false Ciri be buried in Toussaint? she lives all the way in the south in Nilfgaard proper. The grave is also old and lopsided so Ciri must've died a long time ago, I don't see why she eventually time hops into historic Toussaint just to dir but hey, why not? I've seen it theorized that Old Gramps recognized Ciri in LotL because he had killed other versions of Ciri traveling through time and space.

This is off topic, but I noticed a small detail recently. It's not as fancy as we see in these videos, but in the quest "Of Dairy and Darkness" Geralt usually jokingly references Vesemir and Lambert. But if you play the quest AFTER either Vesemir, Lambert or both are dead, Geralt doesn't mention them at all. Just think it's cool how CDPR accounted for something so small

Watching Ciri run around like that at the very end of your video made me think at least I'm not the only one who just runs around in circles with something chasing me.
Cut content is always interesting to look at and think about why it was cut and how it would've been in the game.
So I have a round-around-the-edges sorta theory regarding this grave: it has to do with Ciri's Time And Space™ abilities, just like Letalis said. At some point in time prior to Geralt visiting Toussaint, Ciri visited Toussaint as well. She introduced herself to locals as The Swallow (if I'm not mistaken, the L' article is The in French), and to avoid further questions, she called herself a princess of faraway lands. She could have then helped somebody, probably poorer people (more on that later), could've killed some archespores, possibly, earned some admiration. But of course Ciri had to travel further, and after she was gone, those she helped either must've thought she died fighting something or left without saying goodbye. So people got her either a memorial or a gravestone in the poorer graveyard (Orlemurs is for poorer people, right?), which said The Swallow (but in French), a princess of faraway lands. Only that I'm not sure whether they really speak French in Toussaint, but they have the accent though.
According to the books, Ciri's status as princess could be questioned in the people of cintra followed the old way to a "t".
Codringher suggested using a random girl that would pass as Ciri to afford both Geralt and the real Ciri some freedom.
Some of those head stones are funny. I love the Jim Morrison grave by Regis' hideout.
I like the idea that she spent her life normally and at the end of her days, she travelled through time and space and ended her life in Toussaint. Perhaps even to look a bit at Geralt while he was alive?
Emhyr married fake Ciri, declared her empress, but sent her to live at a castle at the farthest point of the empire to basically be forgotten. They never lived together. Fake Ciri was completely content living in Darn Rowan castle with the 'governess' using Ciri's name but nothing ever came of her. Just faded away into oblivion.
So that's not 100% true, in the books the events are as follows:
1. Emhyr starts his search for Ciri. During the Slaughter of Cintra his men are supposed to pick up Ciri, but they fail, she goes missing, Cahir is imprisoned and so on.
2. Search continues, during the Thanned Coup Cahir is send again to capture Ciri, she escapes through the portal.
3. Rience and Shiriu bring Fake Ciri to Nilfgraard (1267).
4. Emhyr realises that she's not his daughter while meeting her for the first time at the audience in Loc Grim and that's when she is send off to live with Stella in Darn Rowan.
5. Search for True Ciri continues, but Emhyr occasionally visits Fake Ciri.
6. Emhyr meets True Ciri at Stygga Castle and abandons his plans for her.
7. War ends, Peace of Cintra and the wedding take place (1268).
8. ??????
9. Emhyr dies sometime between 1290 and 1301 (Time of Contempt ch. 5), Fake Ciri dies at some point, Stella outlives them both and dies in 1331 (Lady of the Lake, ch. 10).
We don't know what happened to Fake Ciri between the wedding and her death, she may as well been sent off the court, but it is mentioned that Stella was a respected figure in the court due to her connection to the empress, so I think Fake Ciri must have had some relevance there when she was still alive. But that of course cannot be reconciled with the games at all.
I normally play in English, but I just loaded a savegame in Toussaint and checked the tombstone in both German and Spanish. In both versions the "title" is still L'Hirondelle, so no translation. But the descriptions differ. In German it has the same meaning as in English (across the sea), while the Spanish description has the same meaning as in French (over the mountains). Weird, why would this be different in one set of languages for no apparent reason?

the grave seems old so I'd go with some time paradox theory, that I'm too bored to thing about in the moment. something like ciri dying in the future and her powers let this grave appear indicating its from a distant past. idk.

Geralt finds a sunken ship on a small island off southern Ard Skellig where he didn't recognize the crest painted on the boat (a rearing zebra on a red background). Take Geralt up the island to the high point and there is a dead body with a book on the ground to loot - the book says 2 ships were enroute to Toussaint or possibly Novigrad. The ship carried a royal and her heir (son) escaping from a far away land and they didn't speak Common. It mentioned Anna Henrietta's name in the book too. Geralt runs into her around Novigrad by the coast - in a cave and she did not speak Common at all. Could this grave be hers? Apparently, she made it to Toussaint, but died just before Geralt arrives there. Literally just did this quest yesterday. LOL

Could it be something associated to time travelling concept? Maybe Ciri grew old, came back in time, died and hence the grave. An obscure grave in an obscure place because who at that time would believe she was actually a princess.

In French, "L' Hirondelle" is a swallow, a bird. It is quite special in the Witcher's Universe. Ciri's name in Elder Speech - elvish - is 'Zireael', or in Common Tongue: 'Swallow'. Then, we've got the potion and Ciri's sword - it was etched with a crooked destiny line leading to a tower hitted by lightning, an eldered symbol for chaos and destruction. Above that tower though, there is a flying swallow, the symbol for 'Hope'. And, the title of the 4th book of the saga 'The Tower of the Swallow' is an incredibly important and magical place.
I just want to mention, that some species of Swallows are moving over 40.000 km a year while passing overseas, even to the Antarctic! Isn't that amazing???

In portuguese the inscription says "Princesa de uma terra além das montanhas" which means "Princess from a land across the mountains"
interesting, so some languages say mountains and others sea... but the name appears to always be in French
so umm. in polish version it says "księżniczka z krain zamorskich" wchitch means "princess from the overseas lands" and the name is still in french

It could be a tribute grave for Fake Ciri made by some people from Beauclair. It doesn't make much sense for her real grave to be in a random rundown graveyard in Toussaint, so maybe some residents made her a grave when they got news of her death. Toussaint is a vassal of Nilfgaard after all.
