The fact that Henry “I’ll stick around for ten seasons if they do it correctly” Cavill decided to dip out from his dream role like that tells us everything we need to know.
Dude thats never been confirmed his actions says he was after the superman role he litterally was after while he was still in witcher after that he didnt get the supermam role since they went after a younger version after when he heard that was right after his announcment to leave the witcher that he said that he would leave if things change to much during season 1 doesnt mean its what he actual did hes just after roles that give more money like all actors hes not any diffrent... Everyone works to earn money the more money the better and henry is no exception best to just accept it then be like a fangirl who doesnt wanna see the fact for instance these youtubers they dont care about to everything to get viewers to earn money thats what they want they are basicly just actors but instead paid by movie paid by viewers but still same..... Never wondered why they usually cast less known actors for series and more known for movies? Series earn alot less money....
@@bionic3500 That’s BS, he could’ve done both. He was doing Mission Impossible AND Night Hunter at the same time while filming the first season of the Witcher. He wasn’t “after” the Superman role, he already was Superman during that time. The Witcher was a role he actively pursued more than any other. His actions do say what happened, and it’s not like we couldn’t see his frustration during interviews having to explain crazy concepts like why they shouldn’t be laughing over a dead horse in the show.
Is almost funny in a sad way the fact that he cared so much about it compared to the actual writers, I've never been the biggest Henry Cavill fan but after this I definitely respect him and appreciate him a lot more than before
What do you mean according to sources the writers of the show openly hated the source material and insulted Henry Cavill for being dedicated to the source material. The writers should have been fired when they openly should disgust for the source material and when they insulted Henry Cavill. Had I been in charge first I would have read the books and even played the games. So when the writers deviated from the source material, I would demand a explanation. Fact is Netflix and Amazon are so woke they can't be fixed.

Nah that's not really how TV works, is it? You still gotta trim, restructure, merge characters and maybe change internalisation/inner monologue to actions that reveals the same things about the respective character. It _is_ a vastly different medium. Doesn't mean they didn't fuck up, just that I wouldn't discredit screenwriting like that. But then again, I haven't read the books. Maybe each of them are already perfectly structured for a 12-episode season, idk..
@@NorthernRealmJackal In the case of the Witcher, they're basically a step-by-step guide. They would've hardly needed to change anything. They fawked everything up royally, even the bits that don't require the slightest sense of creativity, like the casting of the vast majority of characters.
Netflix had the gold mine of the decade. A literal step by step guide, well established fan base, and tons of money to grow that franchise into a billion dollar diamond.
@stlawstlaw7585 from what I've heard, that was less HBO and more specifically Dave and Dan. HBO and George R.R. Martin were fine with them taking way more season than they did to finish it, but they specifically wanted to finish it by season 8 after like 15 episodes so they could move on to the star wars project they had lined up, while also fighting against them just stepping away as show runner and lead writers.
It went from everyone signing “toss a coin to your Witcher” to Cavill quitting, to the show being universally lambasted. My how the mighty have fallen.
@@keatedean That first season was a shock to my system. I had zero expectations except for it to be awful. I thought they missed the mark with Cavill. I was pleasantly surprised and very happy after season one. And then it just slowly devolved. SUCH a shame.
If you couldn't tell what was going to happen during season one, then you might not be the most observant. They barely managed to make things work following a book with perfect bite sized stories to be adapted for TV while pushing penis-helmets and introducing diversity into Polish folklore. Cavill was clearly the only thing somewhat keeping it together at all.
It's been painfully obvious from the beginning that the show's gonna be utter crap just by looking at the casts. You know damn well the showrunners give zero fucks about accuracy and quality.
Well, it did kinda end the way GoT ended. With a massive disappointment due to writer error/arrogance. To think I actually started my Netflix sub back then so I could watch The Witcher S1... I cancelled it recently after they raised the price.
Yeah, really sad. I liked the first season. But then it went downhill very fast. And when Ciri meets the Rats in season 3 - and they glorified it - that was really the nail in the coffin for me. I liked the Ciri storyline in the books because it really had a deeper meaning and showed some really toxic relationship that form when you are desperate. But in the series Ciri just saves herself and is this big hero - this is not empowerment for me, this is brushing off that people go through hard times and maybe go into the wrong direction because they need something to hold on to, and then after they experience and learn, then they get strength and learn to fight for themselves - but not right from the beginning. And the episode with Ciri in the desert - it was so good in the books. And sooo horrible / hard to watch in the series. It was very cringe - not because of the actress - but because of the writing. I could not believe how bad it was.
Netflix screwed up The Witcher so freaking much! Edit: Us Witcher fans would have CHAMPIONED this series IF they had simply FOLLOW the books & faithful to the lore!
Plus just decent scripts. their scripts in terms of pure storytelling (independent of the lore I mean) were horrendous. But yeah who wasn´t originally excited about the project!!!!
egomaniacs get into those positions so they can piggyback off another IP's success and sate their egos by pretending to be writers not to actually do those series justice and make a proper adaptation.

It's astonishing that TV show creators choose to adapt popular books and games, only to significantly rewrite the original material. Why do they do this? "The Lord of the Rings" closely followed its source material, and while not perfect, it stayed true to the essence of the books, contributing to its immense popularity. Here's a hint for these creators: the original authors have already done the hard work.
Because of marketing ... they just do it for the attention the brand name has. So it is very easy to get people to watch and I assume to get it greenlit by a studio...
Their goal is to try and destroy every good thing society has ever had. They've been doing it for a while now. Star Wars, The Witcher, pretty much anything Disney-related, ect.
They are just buying the brand, the popularity. They don't care about the source material. They want to write their own slop but with an already existent audience.
LOTR movies even made some alterations that worked for the better. Aragorn got "Narsil" in the third movie. In the books he gets the sword as they leave Rivendell. This made much more sense storywise...At the Climax of the movie, a very loved characters gets the "object" that marks him as what he's always tried to avoid.. A king.
Blame falls way more over Sapkowski's uncontrollable greed than anything else, that because he is alive... The DMG here, though, doesn't come close to Amazon's "Rings of Girl-Powah", which was made over Tolkien's corpse, waaaay more aggravating
The "why" is actually super-simple to explain: These show-runners, executives and writers genuinely think they are smarter, more creative, and better writers than anyone else. They saw this opportunity to shepherd an IP as a chance to show everyone everywhere just how much better they are. This is modern entertainment's cancer: zero respect for the source material, authors, and fans and a certainty that they can improve on anything and everything to such an extent that their changes will be embraced as the new canon.
@@AL-lh2htwell i do remember reading somewhere that the showrunners though they could write a better story in somepoint and that was a bit of what cause the creator to leave the proyect
I don't understand why Netflix STILL doesn't understand that screwing over the whole universe set in stone WILL cause the show to die. Every single time some director kills the entire thing and then Netflix cancels it. Idk how Netflix hasn't fired these idiots yet.
Oh and the showrunner and the writers said the show died because of hardcore HENRY CAVILL FANS! Not because they butchered the story and promised even more fan fiction! They’re total morons. These production companies need to better screen who they hire for book to screen adaptations.
Cavill and the first season WAS the only reasons I wanted to get into the books. Thankfully my imagination is far better than the writers/show runners that I'll be able to do it more justice than they could.
I never knew how bad it was. I went to it blind when it came out. I literally skipped over the scenes with yenefer and other characters. I love the games which made me read the book. and just seeing it twisted into something unrecognizable in some parts was just jarring.
they had gold.......pure gold in their hands. and it just took a few writers, a keyboard and an ego the size of the moon to fuck it all up. I truly would slow clap, but just like Henry, I'm too jaded to even bother.
The Last Airbender will get 2 more seasons to finish the story. Season 1 was fine ( for a life action version ) and the same people will also make the other seasons.
@@sayuas4293 Hopefully in indie projects now. It takes a special kind of stupid to screw up (the kind that thinks they could write the books better) The Witcher. The novels needed an adaptation, not a rewrite. And that's the problem.
This will be the new future of cinematography though. The writers strike causes woke/left wing extremists to infiltrate the industry now forcing their ideology into it. If you ask me, people should stay away from the big 10 hollywood studios when it comes to movies or series, especially disney, amazon and netflix. The money you might make from selling your rights to them isnt worth the destruction of your work
Why did writers do this. So stupid. What’s point of being different when books are loved. Sounds like a Disney move. Don’t think you’re smarter than the writers and original stories. Just make the same.
Thank God it’s finally over. Netflix never should’ve been given the rights to make this show. I’ve read the books numerous times since playing the games and watching the show hurt me to my core.
@MyActualThoughts Cyberpunk was still a good game but it sucked at release in a technical way and that CDProject wanted to release the game for as many platforms as possible, even old consoles and they didnt delayed the game one year.
@@MyActualThoughts Basing that opinion on absolutely nothing I see. They have new witcher games in the oven and Thronebreaker was still excellent, we have nothing to worry about.
The showrunners had one job: make a show that followed the books. Instead they got it in their heads that they could make something better than the story's author and what came out was sheer garbage. The Witcher (like many destroyed IPs) could've been a money-printing machine, but they managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Well played, fools.
Not really IMO. They hate the original stories and wanted to mold them to their liking. They will view this as a draw and try again on whatever else to destroy. If anything, they find it funny you don't like what they made and it only motivates them further to destroy something else.
Same thing happened to night watch. Mangled a perfectly good Terry Pratchett story, several in fact. It was like someone went onto Goodreads and inserted quotes into random patches of dialogue where it lost all impact of the context that built up to it. It's gotta be a studio decision to use popular novels and hope they can tap into an existing market and just hire fan fiction writers.
A lot of showrunners are incompetent hacks that somehow fail upwards. Constant disdain for the source material they're adapting and thinking they're better than both the original writer and the fanbase, as if the source material they're adapting somehow got popular by a fluke.
@@nixi7688 If they hired fan fiction writers, they would get better results. Those people have respect for the source material and some of them are better writers than the screenwriters from Hollywood. There has been a book of Witcher fan stories selected by (I think) Sapkowski. It's called "Andrzej Sapkowski przedstawia: Szpony i kły. Wiedźmin". They were written in Polish and I don't know if the book ever got translated, but some of these stories were very fun to read and did not completely disregard the source material. My translation of the title would be "Andrzej Sapkowski presents: Claws and fangs. Witcher". I'd love if one of those stories about Cain found its way into the Witcher games. The Witcher games stand before a hard choice of a new main character and that story is an interesting story suplementing the books.
It is a money-printing machine lol, just not in Netflix's hands. CDPR should have done what they did with Cyberpunk Edgerunners and make the Witcher show animated and from a Japanese or American studio.

I wonder if they do another Witcher show (correctly this time) if they could get Henry back. I didn't know about The Witcher before the show, and Henry's passion and charm has gotten me invested in the games too (I'm even planning on buying the books).
He got his other dream job. He's now spearheading the amazon prime "Warhammer 40k" live action series. He's explained this was a life long, childhood dream to him. As someone who loves 40k, and kinda sees myself in cavil, because he's the biggest nerd on the planet. This makes me both happy and hopeful that we'll get something worth the watch. I think more likely if another company gets the rights "Charlie Hunnam" (Jax taylor) Would be a better cast, lookswise (Not actor wise, but we're not getting Cavil back).
I wonder if there'll ever be another book adaptation with a lead actor who: - is a skilled, fairly versatile actor - is popular with the same fans who like the IP - can look exactly how people imagine the main character with little effort - is a huge fan of the IP - knows the source material so well they can quote specific sections on set - is liked by the author to the point that they imagine the main character with that actor's voice now
Cavill's passion for the role made him a good casting, but he looks basically nothing like how Geralt is described in the book. They cast who people consider to be one of the most handsome men in the world to play a character who is basically supposed to be ugly.
@@grottphd9090 Yeah a lot of people forget that Geralt actually looks like an unsettling, pale, sickly and veiny abomination to people in the books. Even more inhuman looking than other Witchers. They made him more handsome in the second game and one of the most handsome characters in gaming in the third game (trust coming from a fangirl). They even made him very muscular and gave his skin a lot more color than he's supposed to have. All this to the point Geralt in TW3 doesn't even resemble the character in the books very much at all beyond the white hair. I think that's why people think Cavill is a good fit. Don't get me wrong I picture TW3 Geralt when I read the books now, I like the look, it's just not accurate.
Cavil didn't know the source material that well, he was just a fan of the games but had never read the books before he got involved with the Netflix series. The series was supposed to be about the story in the books though, not the game. If there is another book adaptation, any other actor could read the books, too, and would habe the same level of knowledge than Cavil.
Modern hollywood specifically looks for ppl who are NOT fans of the original IP. They want to tell their own stories, no one gives a crap about the source material.
it's amazing Henry is powerful enough to quit whjile he was ahead. a lot of productions like to drag their actors down the dirt when they turn bad. kudos to him for that and respecting the source material like a true fan!
The directors and writers had just about every advantage possible, and they just chose to put their pride and politics before success, fame, and fortune. It'd be funny if it wasn't so pathetic
It WAS the next Game of Thrones. Only difference is that it screwed up out the gate, not five seasons in. No, people, season one was NOT good. You'd know that if if you actually read the books or played more than the third game.

The "official" reason behind Nilfgaard's absurd aesthetic of that weird wrinkly armor and oddly elongated helmets was to make it look "alien" and "made on the march". Rumors say the real reason was to use phallic imagery to make Nilfgaard look like "the evil patriarchy". And considering how insane the twitter profiles of the Netflix Witcher's lead writers are, I believe it.

I was so annoyed Netflix decided to greenlight ‘The Rats’ and yet refused to greenlight the Six of Crows spin-off. The Six of Crows was a far more popular and far superior option as it already had two books worth of content to adapt (along with existing plot lines to tie up from the S&B show which was cancelled…) Not to mention The Six of Crows had six perfectly casted actors. No Witcher fan wanted The Rats to get their own spin-off. I don’t why Netflix was so insistent on making a Witcher-Verse when they couldn’t even manage to find reliable success in their main show. It’s mind-boggling because you have this wonderful book series, and on top of that, a game trilogy wherein the most recent game won the literal Game of The Year, and you still mucked up the adaption? People wanted to love this show so bad, and they literally had all the lore and plot lines written for them… and yet.
My theory about why they wanted to do a spin-off about the Rats is making Ciri into a LGBTQ character. Saw a few W3 streamers, who were like: "I play Ciri as a lesbian", when she was written as a bisexual. Which I don't mind... the developers gave that choice to customize some parts of the story, while not influencing the whole narrative. And I am all for that. But some of those streamers don't know, misread, or FULLY ignore the part, where Ciri's relationship was really not healthy. Intentionally. And yes, the Rats were the most annoying plotline of the books. I can fully imagine how the showrunners would totally ignore Ciri was forcefully taken advantage of, roped into drugs, by brats, who wanted to "stick it to the MAN", and make them into rebels against conventions, banished because of their ideologies, and all in all fully positive characters whose last action is protecting Ciri. And we know... WE KNOW, the Rats would've abandon Ciri to save themselves.
@@madmanarrivednow Oh that would be horrendous: Mistle raped Ciri in the first night at them. Displaying that could only get wrong, als toxic or rewritten as romantic. it is just - nope, not a good pairing

I don't know what flora these producers were imbibing but Ciri in the books was being m***sted by one of the dudes, "saved" and then promptly r***d by the one female member in the Rats. I'm really afraid they're just going to whitewash that scene to serve an agenda.
This is about netflix losing faith on the IP more than the actors performance tbh. The IP has lose soo much trust among the audience it seems illogical to throw more money into it.

Screaming, crying, throwing up. Edited to add, I am not going to watch the new anime although I didn’t hate the Vesemir one. The thing is, A Little Sacrifice is my favorite of the short stories except for A Shard of Ice. I love Little Eye, I love Dandelion and I love Geralt’s characterization in this story. The ending absolutely gutted me. I also enjoyed how it just barely touched on the underwater war - the world Geralt lives in is vast and complex and so much more is going on than anything in just the Continent. To expand on it and make Geralt almost certainly a central figure in it, in my opinion, cheapens it. It’s cool because he is NOT a part of it, yet it is happening.
Oh no. As a final fuck you to Witcher fans they are gonna turn Little sacrifice into another Aquaman movie. I truly hoped that at least the fishpeople are gonna be spared.
Episode 1 of Season 2 told me everything I needed to know about the show going forward. Everyone acting stupid and irresponsible and the messed up messaging. Netflix never cared about the source material even Andzrej Sapkowski said in a interview that they just didn't listen to him. I'm gald to see it die. A lot of people liked the 1st season but even it was horrible, so many amazing stories were either watered down or cut out entirely. On top of that that added useless scenes which are barely mentioned not to mention how they butchered the timeline as well as the most characters.
I never watched much of the series. I'm almost finished with the third book. I knew there was some sketchy stuff with yen wanting to sacrifice ciri or something because I saw one of these videos in the past. Just wait till you finish the books - you’ll see how truly disrespectful the show has been to Sapkowski’s original story and intended journeys for the characters to go on.
Dandelion being gay or bi didn’t bother me at all, he likes sleeping around and I think he never expressed disliking gay relationships in the books, so why not. The show fucked up pretty much everything else, but this is one of the few points which I viewed in a neutral way. I have to say, I didn’t watch the third season because the second one was enough for me, so I don’t know how they portrayed bi/gay Dandelion.

In a way, I feel sorry for Liam Hemsworth. Cavill had a much stable career in the industry, when he picked up the part and even that choice was criticized by fans at the early stages. Even with his traction he had to prove his worth. Now that everyone and their grandma loved Cavill in the role, this could mean a career crash for the guy. I know, the season will suck ass, but but I don't want any of the actors to suffer for that, especially when it's an actor who has to work under two shades (his brother, and now his predecessor). Cavill is pretty much the gentleman who tries to soften the blow on the guy, by showing him in a positive light.
@@madmanarrivednowLiam is a decent actor and does not deserve the hate. I really liked his performance in the Independence Day. To be honest he seems to fit Geralt quite well (in my opinion better than Henry based on the face only). I think the last two or three episode of the third season were pretty book accurate tbh.. but they were also the worst part of the book for me(the rats I hate them)
I remember back in 2006 when the Eragon movie came out. I was a huge fan of the novels and I was extremely excited for the movie. Needless to say I was devastated by how bad it was. However I remember thinking that there's at least one positive thing to come out of it. That one thing being that the writers will have learned from their mistakes when it comes to adapting fantasy novels. Now nearly 20 years later it's still happening. Why don't these people learn from the past? Look at Harry Potter, those films were mostly faithful to the books and they were a huge success.
As a massive Witcher fan, glad the nightmare is nearing its end. I dipped out after like the first two episodes of season 2, the writers of the show have never heard of subtlety and can't help but change every single character for the worse. The actors were carrying the show but now the horrendous writing crushed them too.
In the hopefully not-so-distant future, I do hope that HBO gets the chance to give us an adaptation of The Witcher. No made up stories, no side characters getting so much attention, and the plot stays the same. Just pure Canon Witcher stories. Been a fan of the series in general since 2012, and was absolutely gutted with what they did and will continue to do with it. I just hope it all ends soon and someone else gets the chance to give this insane story a good adaptation.
Honestly, I think this is a golden mine. We are all so frustrated with Netflix that if HBO decided to run the show following the lores and cast Henry Cavill, it would be very well received. The bar is very low now.

I swear every time anyone talks about the Netflix Witcher there's always something new that's just jaw-droppingly awful in the mix. This time it's the romance between Dandelion (aged 40) and Radovid (aged ~13 in the books) - Netflix are never beating the pedo allegations! Also very glad this Rats spin-off is part of the time-honoured tradition of Netflix ordering a new show and then unceremoniously cancelling it! PS what is that golden armour in 3:30 cos it is gorgeous and I don't believe I've seen it before!

I hope the next rights holders for the live-action, animated adaptation will be much more respectful of the original source material... Netflix showed us what not to do with live-action adaptation of Witcher books (or even games) and this is to some extent good and it showed how some decisions of a certain person can affect the entire universe and kill it in its infancy.
By the way, there is an older movie about Geralt made in Polish. It's a bit low budget but it's wayyy better than the show. Can't remember the name sadly Edit: I found it, it's called "Wiedzmin". However, I don't know if anyone ever bothered to make an Englisch translation.
The Witcher book series has two types of stories, both of which are a piece of cake to adapt to screen: 1. Short stories focus on either monster / curse of the week or a specific main character that will develop a bond with Geralt 2. From ToC onward books take a more political tone with many different POVs, just like a political fantasy show (ala GOT) would do. There are some gaps in the books and some issues, but apart from pacing and the order the chapters appear in across the books, majority of it is just perfect to directly adapt. That is especially true when one considers lack of long monologues or thoughts of characters in the story, apart from that one part with Triss in BoE.
I fully agree. The long monologues and thoughts of characters were almost exclusively presented in the dialogue of Dandelion and Geralt. Dandelion was the one person who knew Geralt the most, he also was the one person that Geralt respected and appreciated his company. The screenwriters could not catch that. The character of Jaskier in the show is an abomination. Geralt addresses him like he's a pest. Jaskier doesn't even have a horse to ride next to Geralt. Just one example of how the 1st point - characters developing bonds with Geralt - has never been noticed by the screenwriters. They failed to pull a single relationship between Geralt and another character to then put it in the show. And they were all there in the books - in the actions of the characters and in the dialogue. They skipped over the most important short story for the saga (Brokilon - "The Sword of Destiny", the TITULAR short story, as if Sapkowski hasn't made this clear enough that this is THE most important one!). Unfortunately, I feel like Hollywood really lacks smart writers nowadays. These books might have gone over their literally-processing american heads.

When you first said, they were gonna cancel the final two seasons I thought, they were gonna scrap season 4 and 5 since I already heard the news. But that is wishful thinking on my part...
Netflix gave me two terms to fear about serial adaptations: "getting Witchered" and "getting Cowboy Beboped;" the former refers to an adaptation that _seems_ to start out fine only to get butchered down the road, while the latter means something that looks dead on arrival. For example, Avatar: The Last Airbender seems to have avoided getting Cowboy Beboped, at least from what I've heard because I still haven't watched it for fear of it getting Witchered.
@@crypto66 No, there was a live action movie of Avatar The Last Airbender a while back. It was widely loathed. The Netflix series is unrelated to it and has certainly done a far better job, although I still wouldn't say there is any need for it to exist either.

I'm still stuck on the scrotum armor from Season 1. What the HELL was that? Who approved that, what happened there?
Oy vey.

RIGHT i'm really curious as to why the hell they are so obsessed with The Witcher considering no one f*cking likes it. the Six of Crows spin off not happening is such a shame...

But when I heard "Radovid and Dandelion are lovers" I almost spat out my drink. Wtf have they done with the source material.

In the hopefully not-so-distant future, I do hope that HBO gets the chance to give us an adaptation of The Witcher. No made up stories, no side characters getting so much attention, and the plot stays the same. Just pure Canon Witcher stories.

The nightmare is finally over!
Nightmare of the Wolf: ❌
Nightmare of the Jew: ☑️
Thank Goodness! You are spot on - they had a book series primed for television show and the writer’s egos got in the way and butchered it.
The Witcher book series has two types of stories, both of which are a piece of cake to adapt to screen:
1. Short stories focus on either monster / curse of the week or a specific main character that will develop a bond with Geralt
FINALLY! Should have ended with Season 1.
My thoughts exactly.
The last scene with Sapkowski was golden. Thanks for the laugh 😃
