As an owner, I've had trouble booking even my home resort and busy times of the year. These vacation rental companies know exactly what they're doing. They should be shut down immediately and all reservations cancelled. There are no innocents in the vacation point rental industry. Cheaters are gonna cheat cheat cheat cheat.

Ooooh. I never thought of that, that people use this for profit. I genuinely thought those confirmed reservations were people whose schedules changed and had no choice but to sell them.

Especially in private groups, there are a lot of confirmed reservations listed for peak travel times that are so far out, there would be absolutely no penalty for the owners to cancel the reservation and bank the points for another year.

I rent DVC points all the time and honestly the amount per point I pay vs what points cost to buy plus maintenance fees I doubt many are making a profit and are most likely just breaking even. My guess is Disney wants more empty DVC rooms to sell at rack rates.

As someone who has been renting points for the last 4 years, I can see your point….I didn’t think of how it would limit availability for actual members

I think that's a point it doesn't or shouldn't but this gets too out of control, maybe Disney would downgrade the amount of points they give out just so they get a bigger piece of pie and it's not to have this negatively affecting them as much as you.

Members are absolutely allowed to rent out their points.

So far, my family has only gone on Disney vacations when my parents have paid for it. They're DVC members, so we know some of how the membership works. I was thinking about renting points to go to stay at a DVC resort with just my wife and kids; thank you for letting me know about the possibility of coming across point rentals that might be advertised in breach of DVC contract. It definitely makes me more likely to rent points at resorts that haven't had enough time to hit the resale market in large droves (Disneyland Hotel, Cabins at Fort Wilderness Lodge, etc.).

beautiful tree/ Are the DVC rental prices comparable to the Carabean beach resort?

Great video. I have never rented points. Have thought about it because disney does lack availability when booking at times. But i agree with you. Not fair to ppl who are paying for their time share.

Disney is the biggest renter of points so I don't see them trying to restrict renting. All the points that they haven't sold yet they rent out year after year. I'm not really understanding what it is you were trying to say.

They won't try to restrict renting points - what they're trying to restrict is the rental of confirmed reservations, people who book out rooms they never intend on staying in, usually at peak travel times, and then list the full reservation for someone else to rent those exact dates from them. This restricts BOTH other owners ability to rent those rooms for their own trips, AND Disney's ability to offer up unused points for their own rentals.
