Leon has so much soul, it's ridiculous. This dude was an artist. He swings on the simplest songs. His piano grooves, and song intros , just kick me in the guts (in a great way) every single time. Thanks so much for this video.
Living in a theater commune in Memphis summer of '73. Down at the performance space early one morning walking across the parking lot behind to the workshop hungover, nearly run over by Leon and Nix in Russell's Rolls. Fond memory.
I just have to thank God first for giving us this great American music phenomenon Leon Russell, who for me was one of the best singers in the state of Tulsa and in the entire world.
I remember this show came on several times on PBS... '71, '72, etc. and each time I dropped everything to watch/listen to it. Going to see Leon in an intimate setting in October; can't wait. Last time he was at his zenith ('72)....
This is amazing. It brings back so many memories. So glade I lived through this period. Saw Leon and the MDogs, several times wow. And the backup singers-what a force of nature.
I've been searching for this video since it aired on PBS in 1971. It was called Full Circle and also featured a segment with Cat Stevens. If the whole show is ever available on DVD I'd buy it in a heartbeat!
Ron, here's the link to Leon Russell & Friends: ruclips.net/video/8MniVvDJ2MY/видео.html. And here's the link to the Cat Stevens portion of Full Circle: ruclips.net/video/9koLKSyjm8M/видео.html. Enjoy, my brother.
He was beautiful, wasn't he? My best friend and I saw Mad Dogs & Englishmen when we were kids and she fell in love with his beautiful long fingers. She passed away 5 years ago, and it's really too bad that she was never able to watch these videos on youtube.
Leon needs to be in the RRHOF in his lifetime. Even if he doesn't get in, he is in it in his fan's hearts. I hope he knows how thankful people are for his music.
Beautiful is the word for Leon. There's just something magnetic about him. I had never heard of him before seeing this so long ago, but it made a life-long fan out of me. If I come across finding it on DVD I will be sure to post.
Thank you for posting this. I saw Leon for the first time last year, but I've been listening to him since the 70's. Seeing him only made me hunger for more.
Great song and great performance. I just find out, how Leon is awesome. It ´s crazy, that some "older" musicians can make fainted a young girls like me :-))

Thanks so much for this video. You GDead bashing fools are pathetic. The Dead also did this song up right in the late 60's and early 70's when Pigpen sang it.. He was a great Jimmy Reed fan.
Sorry to say but when this first aired my first real girlfriend left me because she found me with another girl and I watch this show with guilt and tears in my eyes...Sorry and loved you Jody
Big boss man, can't you hear me when I call? Big boss man, can't you hear me when I call? Can't you hear me when I call? Well you ain't so big, you know you're just tall that's all.
Leon oozed talent and soul. One of the most underappreciated musicians of our time.
O yeah brownie!
No, he was an in demand session player. Was even on a Sinatra album.
I totally agree!
I agree with you!
This is one of my favorite performances from Leon Russell & Friends. The simplicity, the effortlessness...He's just the epitome of cool.

Leon looks like he's really having a good time here.

Bad recording for such a great son. I guess it was the times. Wish it could be cleaned up.
Yep.
Genius
Classic!
Too bad Leon and Joe didn't get along. They needed each other for the best music.
Mad dogs tour proved this.
Sorry to say but when this first aired my first real girlfriend left me because she found me with another girl and I watch this show with guilt and tears in my eyes...Sorry and loved you Jody
SHAME ON YOU ...'LOL
Better late than never. C'mon, forgive him, Jody. :)
She's dead now ~ But the guilt is still there ~ Her parachute didn't open ~
I also have that same disease.
Yeah, Watch Out!
Great song If It Wasn't for Bad on youtube now, for his album the Union with Elton

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ace!
harmonica solo stunk. but i like how he thows his hands up pritty mutch cuz it was the rong key. got it at the end though
@DeluxeKC And he had already done Mad Dogs and Englishmen AND the Concert for Bangladesh!
It was called Homewood Tonight when it aired here. Many guests, but no Cat Stevens on this episode.
This is from Dec 1970
I like how he says to the harmonica player "play this one for Jimmy Reed"
The harmonica player is Don Nix.
the harmonica player looks like dickie betts?
sure does
Don Nix ,not Dickie Betts!! Don is a Memphis legend,he wrote Going Down.
bill izatt I thought the exact same thing
Joyce Rosic Smith g
The harmonica player has fuzzy hair.Dickey doesn't have fuzzy hair but his face is a lot like Dickey.
Steve Miller did this too. Very good. A bit different.
So did Elvis!
Don Nix
I don't know what it is...but i have the same disease!
Yeeehaaahw Almost as good as Pigpen
RIP PIGPEN.....Is that Papa John Phillips on harp?
Is that Don Nix playing the harmonica?
Who's that on the mouth harp? That's always been a staple of mine, but this guy looks familiar...
Is Furry there? Can't remember if I was or not, LOL! It was focking Memphis in 1971, y'all!
He sings “Good Mornin Jury” during this session. He can also be seen holding a baby sitting in a rocking chair too.
You just talk that's all...
Somebody take that buzz out of the background audio!!!!
@thesatanas666....obviously you know diddly squat about music,so what are you even doin` on this videos site !!!!!!!!
Leon does an astounding job with this song but that harp player just sucks big time. That shit was pitiful...
RIP
