  • Since 2014 I have been waiting for THIS film! And now today it is available for purchase in the USA and will continue to be available. In the video I showcase examples, materials and give recommendations on processing, developers and scanning. This is one of the most beautiful films ever made.
    Film is exclusively available in the USA at Freestyle Photo.

    Thanks for that review. I supported Ferranias Kickstarter project and even the rsults were different than originally planned it got me hooked on the brand. One of my favorite pics was shot on P30 alpha (first trial run). Also thanks for your developer recommandations. I have a roll of P30 in 120 now loaded in a 6x6 folder that will need developing soon.

    Appreciate your testing efforts and sharing. Your results are tonalities I look for. I’ll look to trying some in the near future.

    wonderful film, wonderful video as always. as an italian i really appreciate Ferrania's work (i live 1h from the little city where it all started). Ferrania really cared about its workers rights and free time. at minute 5:45 we can see a "DopoLavoro" (Post-Work) where workers could rest, play and drink in company. such a rare thing! only the best and most famous factory had this in those years!

      Yep! My hope is to get back to Italy next year and visit the factory if possible….

    Can’t wait to try this. Is that shot of Eve panoramic because you cropped the negative in post or because you used a panoramic camera? If it’s a cropped 2:3 negative, I’m super impressed with the resolving power of that film. Wonderful photo!

      It’s a 4:1 panoramic camera - quite amazing as is the film!

    Thanks so much for the info. Just got my first roll of P30. I was going to use Cinestill D-96 monobath to develop. Should I use Rodinal?

    Hi, a much appreciated review which has triggered my curiosity. Just a quick question: Have you tried using Xtol for developer and if so what was the result?

    • @FIGITALREVOLUTION
      @FIGITALREVOLUTION  2 года назад

      I have not tried Xtol as with a classic film I kinda like to stick to a classic developer- my understanding is that it works but is not idea…

      @@FIGITALREVOLUTION I have begun using it instead of D76. Not because I was disappointed with D76 but Xtol is cheaper and a lot more friendly to the environment 😃

    • @FIGITALREVOLUTION
      @FIGITALREVOLUTION  2 года назад

      Yes indeed- Rodinal is currently my favorite as it lasts forever and uses such a small quality. With Xtol something like 1:1 or 1:2 would be nice….

    Hi Steve, I gave up on this film a while back, having found the contrast hard to control. Maybe I was given the beta version, anyway having seen your results, I will give it another go. Do you it would work OK with 510 Pyro? Thanks Ed

    More film is always a welcome development (no pun intended). I'll be interested to see the spectral response of this - I know nothing about it, but I assume it's mostly orthochromatic given the age of the emulsion formula. I'm a big fan of Ilford Ortho 80, as I load it under a safe light for LF and into a fakmatic adapter for use in a Rollei A26. I like the look of the Ilford Ortho stock, and it sure is convenient loading the film under a safe light:)
    Steve - do you know if P30 is safe-light friendly?

      I don’t know but suspect no- it has a beautiful tonality and suspect in the coming weeks to see more information as they are really ramping up for a big fall with even more film

    • @davyboyo
      @davyboyo 2 года назад

      The Naked Photographer has a bit of info regarding spectral response on his p30 video. Nothing too in depth but it might be helpful if you're wanting to find out a bit more about the film.

    So I may be mixing apples with grapes here, but here goes. I use Adox Scala 50 regularly, and love it. I recently got my hands on 3 rolls of Ferrania P30, this is of course a re-modulation of the original P30 formula used in Italian Cinema in the 50’s and 60’s, with similar characteristics as the Adox Scala 50 - similar box speeds 50 vs 80, similar high silver content, similar clear film base. The difference sits in the way each is developed, one is a slide reversal film, the other a negative B&W film. Yet Ferrania P30 the motion picture film stock produced back in the day was also a slide reversal film, as the films seen on the big screen attest. So my question is simple, do you think I’d be able to produce reversal slides using Ferrania P30 film with the Adox reversal slide film process?

    What you don't clarify is are you usings a colour contrast filter on your lens like a yellow filter ?

    • @FIGITALREVOLUTION
      @FIGITALREVOLUTION  Год назад +1

      Ok- to clarify these is NO color filter of any kind on the lens.

    • @TangoDJAnthonyCronin
      @TangoDJAnthonyCronin Год назад +1

      @@FIGITALREVOLUTION reason I asked , I shot my first roll with a traditional yellow filter. And got terrible results ..using a Nikon f6, will try another roll without any filter

    • @FIGITALREVOLUTION
      @FIGITALREVOLUTION  Год назад +1

      I would not use a filter beyond a ND with this film- a yellow would definitely add more contrast which the film does not need and mess with the rendering which is quite nice. Whenever I try a new film I always start clean and once I am satisfied I will sometimes run a roll of the same scene so I can see the effects of a variety of different filters but on P30 I just like it natural…. Happy shooting!
