In subterrean there is often of good things I think
I like the lists, continue with them. What could be useful, is to rate all of the units in single list, so to see, which city has the most good tiered stuff.
That would be castle.
All the un-upgraded units are useful, some are very good (Angel), some are good (Cavelier, griffin, archer, pikemen) and some are decent (Monk, Swordsmen).
Upgraded the swordsmen becomes very good, and Royal griffins may be considered very good due to numbers.
Towns who actually have useless un-upgrd/upgraded units:
Tower (Gremlins)
Inferno (Imps, familiars)
Necropolis (Walking dead, Zombies, Wights)
Dungeon (Troglodyte, Infernal troglodyte)
Stronghold (Goblins)
Conflux (Pixies, Fire elemental, earth elemental, Magma elemental).
Ofcource one could argue that its ok for tier 1 units to suck past the very early game, but I kind of don't agree with that statement.
In the case of necro and conflux I guess they needed some weak points to slow them down o.O

ok, that was a surprise (to be sure but a welcome one)
I remember "that one" map, it was basically three islands, small ones on the sides, reefs preventing going around the middle one.
The middle one was massive and snow covered, no roads, neither of us two rolled pathfinding (not just picked rolled) on our mains, he had logistics, I had boots.
at some point we gave up playing against one another and through chat talked how big it is (there was a lot of winding paths and obstacles)
Over 7 turns to cross from one side to another, with expert logistics

Please do 2 tier lists of all heroes (or per town): one for main hero and other for supporting heroes.

Love these haha. You may have done it already, but which Castle is the best to defend with!? I know you hate defending haha. I've won castle defenses by just using the landmines on the Tower castle. Go genies!

is it true if u have units from another castle on your hero u get a full terrain penalty? let's say I have swamp units..it usually counts the slowest one...but with let's say one Grpyhin I still get a high terrain penalty? also lava terrain can be quite annoying a lot of obsticles
I guess, some duel format could be achieved on a water map if both players could get hat of admiral after breaking some guards :)
But heroes with navigation specialisation would be op on this map

I feel you with the flash bang terrains . Did you play Disciples 2 ? To see the abomination terrains . The clans and Legions have atrocious terrain. It hurt my eyes .

btw Rough Terrain also has The Watering Place, as well as The Magic Springs! Its very powerful and unique
what about those special/magical terrains of 4 leaf clovers and flames, evil fog etc?
What's your opinion on water maps in PVP if both players start with the admiral's hat?

You talk about lava not spawning crypts - I see. But is there any list what terrains can spawn what?

Wasn't there some kind of bug/feature that you could have 1 neutral unit in your army and still ignore terrain movement penality?

what about factions measured only by the average of their units? For example Necro has a great tier 6 and tier 4 units, solid tier 5 unit and terrible tier 2 and 7 unit. So I would index each tear with a constant and rate the overall units value. Thank you if you go for this.

While I absolutely despise water maps because boats take up 100% of your movement, water is actually pretty rewarding because there's rarely any monsters and lots of resources/artifacts. At least on all the premade maps.

Here's a question for you: Do you think it would make the inferno a bit better if the inferno was a 125 or 150% terrain while being a native for inferno?

I heard that water terrain is not used in PVP because the random map generator has problems creating maps with water. The map ends up unbalanced and 1 player has a big advantage simply because of map layout.
I'm still confused about lava terrain not having any movement penalty. In the world of HoMM3 a stroll in the grass plains is as casual as walking on the ground that's capable of melting anything

I think making fortress the most defensive faction native to swamp the hardest terrain to move through was originally intended to indirectly strengthen fortress' defensive capabilities against invaders but designers missed the fact that connecting every town to every town with roads completely negates this benefit. It would be cool if roads on maps were not continous but interrupted with surrounding terrain more often, especially on harsh terrains like snow or swamp which would also be a flavor win.

Come on. Inferno's terrain is clearly the worst. You can't even see how far unites can go in battle without killing your eyes.
