Mine I just bought for my 68 Camaro has 2 high nuts.Seems to be A bit to far over before I install. Was going to pull the Muncie out but I will wait and do more research. Thanks a bunch for this video. Can’t wait to try this sucker out.406 sbc with 4’11 in the rear.Say goodbye to H pattern.Hope this works out.
W.R. Grace bought out Hurst and Mr Gasket in the mid to late eighties , and started combining companies. That's why you have a Mr Gasket shifter that's branded as a Hurst unit .
That "6 inch Anderson" appears to be a welded ground stud for 6" IPS tubular aluminum bus used in extra high voltage substations (345,000 volts and above)...
I have the Hurst version of the V gate II ,most fun shifter to drive everyday with ,that ring you pull up on I extended the rod so it's closer to handle so much more comfortable
I don't know when Hurst bought out Mr.Gasket, but it wasn't early 70s. I bought mine from Speedwin Automotive , (paid $80 for it), and that was 74. Interesting the V-gate 2 from Hurst is the old Mr. Gasket mechanism. It's a great powershifting shifter. Not sure what the new V-gates look like.
@@mountainsgarage You got that right. Just B4 that, I couldn't afford a Hurst or Mr. Gasket in HS, and wanted to take my 64 Dodge Polara's 3 on the tree, and put it on the floor. Had to buy a "Fox-Craft" universal shifter from Western Auto, cause it was only $39 bucks LOL. (What a POS)
Hi, I'm just learning about these V Gate shifters. You said something about mounting to a Toploader. So, does that mean the V Gate shifter itself is universal, and it just takes different mounting plate and linkage to for it to work on different transmissions? Assuming they are all 4 speed transmission, that is. Great info, thank-you for sharing.
@@mountainsgarage Interesting, thank-you. So in my search I don't have to worry about finding one for my top loader per se, just find a good unit, and then piece the rest together as needed. I appreciate the info, thank-you.
I knew someone who had one of those shifters, back in the mid 80's it was in a 1970 Nova , I that that was the best shifter , didn't understand why more people weren't using them . I found one online a couple of years ago I think they wanted $450 for it , I don't have anything to use it on , and I know it wouldn't work on my Karmann Ghia .. lol but would still be cool to have , my Nova is an automatic , and I don't plan on putting a stick in it .
I'm pretty sure there are places where you can buy rectangular punch dies for your hydraulic punch. I wonder if you could get lucky enough to find one the right size for the shifter brackets?
That might be One of two they coming to set mounts to the leg of a tower that is not grounded such as an AM Tower and the other ball would go right next to it with a certain gap and a lightning hits the tower it jumps that gap and goes to ground in an FM antenna the antenna mounts to the tower AM the antenna is the tower and I cannot be grounded to be wrong it's my guess though
John Sandahl of Tube Chassis Designz in Hanson Mass. is awesome and reasonable. Whatever the cage costs the value probably goes up twice that, his work is flawless!

Interesting! Thanks!
Here is a similar one from another manufacturer: www.sefcor.com/products/view/tees-couplers-and-misc/ehv-misc/WGSTH

IPS a common name for round electrical aluminum current carrying bus, used mostly in outdoor high voltage substations.

The Long V gate shifter that I have has a trigger handle to pull, much nicer. I was think of extending this one like you did.
I thought about doing the trigger to mine but I bought this thing it was new in the box could bring myself to modify it that much

$80 probably seemed like a lot of money in 1974!

Yes the shifter is the same, just need to change out the bracket, rods, and arms.

I have two for it, I will check tomorrow if they are close to the correct size, Thanks!

Hi Shawn,
Can I hire you build a roll cage for my modified Volvo wagon ?
Ross
Sounds like a fun project but not taking in project cars at the moment.
@@mountainsgarage okay thanks for getting back to me.

I like you to rebuild my vgate shifter
