    Sorry for the long post. Thanks for taking the time to explain the differences in these shifters. I have a 68 GTO with a factory Hurst dual gate unit which (after 30 years ownership!) I have just stripped out of my car for a rebuild. It has the t shape hefty mech similar to your 67 but there are some differences. It has never worked properly. Would not select first nor put the box (TH400) fully into park, probably due to wear or an incorrect length cable, or both, and reverse was in there - somewhere.
    In "His" the lever never stopped at the detent as I now discover it doesn't have the tab on the side of stick to hit it. Also the pivot pin for the shift lever is a few degrees out of true so the stick is twisted away from the detents at all times which I think is poor manufacturing. The electrical switch is similar but on the outside and easier to get at and there's less mounting hardware, just one two bolt bracket to fix it and the console to the trans tunnel and three short bolts on top of the tunnel under the chrome cover which just clips on.
    I hope this helps someone.

      Sorry, I meant 3 bolts through the top of the console.

    Thanks for the informative video. I'm planning on installing a Dual Gate in my 80' Trans am which has an LT1+ 4l60e. I saw shiftworks has the kit to use a dual gate with the 4l60e. Are the dimenons of the shifters fairly similar? Do you think an olds or 4-speed dual gate would fit if I used the 70-81 f-body faceplate?

      As far as I've seen, the 1970 -1979 Olds Dual gates are physically the same as the kits Hurst used to sell for the Camaro/Trans Am in the late 70's and 80's. Those kits (or parts of them) still pop up on ebay from time to time.

    Great video. Thanks for taking the time to make this. I see you haven't made videos in a while. By any chance would you be able to make a video showing how to disassemble and rebuild a Dual Gate shifter (Specifically Dual Gate 2 or Olds)? Shifterdr has a parts kit for $56 but no instruction. They want $175 to rebuild a shifter which is a bit insulting.

      Thanks for watching! Yes, I can take a Dual Gate apart and make a video of it sometime soon. Give me a little time and I'll try get a video of it done

      @@olzkng Awesome! I know they sell a rebuild kit for $55 that comes with new slide plate, return spring, main roll pin, nuetral stop block, 2nd to 3rd gear block plate spring, main spring housing bushing and retaining clip for shift control pivot. They make it seem like it's not an easy task but a visual would be me rebuild a Dual Gate 2 I just picked up.

    Do you know where I can get the clevis pins to attach the neutral safety switch and the clutch cable for my 1970 442?

    • @olzkng
      @olzkng  4 года назад

      If they're just regular clevis pins you should be able to get them at McMaster-Carr.com I'd think. If they're special pins I'm sure someone on the 442 or Olds Facebook groups would have them. I think H&H Classic Auto specializes in console restoration so they might have them or know a source for them

    I have a dual gate but I need to adapt a neutral safety reverse switch. Where did you say to get it ?

    • @olzkng
      @olzkng  5 лет назад

      I don't know which style you have but the 1967 and 68 GTO style shifter is set up for a switch at the rear. That switch is reproduced by The Parts Place and was $69 when I last checked. The 1970 Olds style had a metal link to a push-pull type switch which has just been reproduced and is also carried by (I think) The Parts Place and other vendors. I've seen aftermarket universal style Dual Gates with a small switch mounted about 3/4 of the way back on the driver's side. It looks like it's just a on-off contact switch though so I don't think it does Park/Neutral and reverse lights, just one or the other. I haven't had one in my hands to mess with it I've just seen pics online. I want to say after 1971 Most manufacturers went a column mounted P/N/Reverse light switch so there was less need for a switch on the shifter. You may have to get creative to make it work like you need. Thanks so much for watching my video!

      If you're looking for stock style Olds Park/neutral switch brackets Mike Siedlik should have them. His web site is www.thegoodoldsdays.com/realoldsmobile.asp

    What was the name of that website again? I’m trying to order a new shifter for my cutlass it’s rusted all over

      I’m not sure which site you’re referring to. If you’re looking for dual gate parts you could try www.shifterdoc.com/productcart/pc/Dual-Gate-Shifter-AND-Vertical-Gate-Race-Shifter-Parts-c78.htm. I’ve never used them but they seem to have a lot of stuff.
      I bought shifter parts from Mike Siedlik and his site was www.thegoodoldsdays.com or something like that but I think he may be out of business. If you want a whole shifter you could try www.thepartsplace.com. I’m not sure who else reproduces them.

    Hello and thankyou so much for this video. It really gives prospective on how each one works. I have 72 olds cutlass with 700r4 and wanted to know where to get the true 4 speed dual gate from instead of using shift works like I have on my regular shifter.

      I didn't see any 4 speed dual gates on ebay. Any other ideas or places to check?

    • @olzkng
      @olzkng  2 года назад +1

      I think the Parts Place is reproducing them so you could check with them. The 4 speed Dual gate was made for the 82-92 Camaro/Firebird I believe so you might try searching that way on Ebay. I just found this one if it helps www.ebay.com/itm/82-92-Camaro-Z28-Firebird-Hurst-Dual-Gate-2-Shifter-TH700-R4-Complete-2920000-/331615641264?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0
