Hi there is it okay closing off other radiators in the same floor just to save time filling up I've done it a few times but just a second opinion if okay to do this method without coursing issues. It's worked fine with this method
Dude you've saved me some money and I learnt a new skill. I followed your instructions to the letter and managed to isolate and cap a rad from my bathroom .... This was a first for me so I really appreciate your tutorial 👍🏾
I have been watching your vids while replacing my entire bathroom.. the rad is my next job, I had lost some confidence recently, but you have got me back in the groove.. thanks mate!!!
Thank you for talking so fast! I love it because we can get through it without tons of pauses--getting to the information! Thanks!
Cheers for taking the time to make this video! Helped me out massively, had a radiator to remove in our downstairs living room and followed your video. No issues or leaks. Also followed your "adding inhibitor" one too whilst i was at it, but used a syringe as opposed to your patented contraption :) Cheers for you help!
Mate thanks for doing this video, I'm doing DIY at home, followed everything you said and everything's done, saved me a lot of money, cheers pal 😎
Hi Thank you for all your plumb vids it has helped me out with plumbing issues
Stay safe 👍
Glad you mentioned the inserts. I am constantly amazed how many people seem to leave such a basic step out and then wonder why they get leaks.
Inserts really aren’t needed. Never used them for over 10 years on thousands of fittings. Not one leak.
Use them if you want.
You've saved me so much money with these videos. If you're ever in Ireland I'll buy you a beer 😊 (I'm about to do this job except I've got copper pipe sticking out of concrete 😠)
Great video as ever. Had to do this last week and thankfully nothing went wrong, but still learnt some cheeky skills watching this! Thanks for such an awesome channel, you rock!
Excellent video James! These are my favourites as well as plumbing disasters. My boiler was loosing pressure a few weeks back, lucky it was down to a leaky blanking plug at the top of the rad.
I would have snatched that job live :-) Nice to see you doing some proper plumbing, J. Thanks
woodbine66 I
Love your videos educational and funny.😂
Very helpful indeed, thanks.
yeah james quick question i can only find tesco's own tortillas not old el paso? is that going to be an issue or am i just over-thinking this one? on a serious note - love the videos, you've helped me fix pretty much every plumbing element in me 'ouse...
Top video again jimmy
your a life saver!!! :)
BEFORE YOU SAY plastic caps aren't the best solution....but they are part of it! You can use compression ends on plastic pipes.
Got those beers by the way!
If as you did cap both the feedwater pipe to the radiator and outlet water pipe from the radiator, effectively you have cut off the water feed to the next radiator in the loop. Am I making sense
@@jackjill3205 no its perfectly fine, I personally loop them together if I have room but this way is also fine.
Great video 👍 I learned something new
Thanks mate!
Thanks. It does not seem to be too much of a task.
Hey, Wouldn't it be better and less hassle to just isolate the radiator by just turning off both the valves ?
That way if there is ever a very cold spell the owner still has the option to put the radiator back on in the room instead of having to have it refitted again.
Great vids BTW - Keep em coming!
I swear this was Bradley Cooper in the thumbnail
Hi love the video. I was wondering is it safe on a combi boiler to drain the water out and then not refill? Basically I want to drain the system and remove all the downstairs plumbing. I didn’t know if a combi boiler being sat for months without water in the system would damage it in some way?
hi, so when you are undoing the nuts is it always from the left that the
nut goes down to the floor and the right hand side goes up to undo,
thanks, mark.
This may be a silly question I have capt off a radiator the pipework was the pipe was above the floor so I just followed you down till he went underground and cut it and kept it off did the same with the other one so does this mean but the Circuit of the radiators has now been cut will the others still get hot
Fantastic job
Cheers dude!
arnt you creating 2 dead legs with the capped pipes what problems can that create?
Hi! We’re hoping to remove our radiator but we’re in a lower ground floor flat and have a concrete screed below our engineered timber flooring. Is it still possible to remove the radiator with a concrete screed? Don’t think we’d be able to do the part of the job where you get under the floor boards. Thanks!
+plumberparts
hi james many thanks for the vids - i'm a motor mechanic.
i want to blank off a small rad in the loft (conversion) of my bungalow - it's connected by hep.'
would it be possible to do it _without draining the system?_ - that is close both rad valves & "quickly" cut (the way you suggested) & blank - hope that's not a knobo question - thanks
Brilliant
Love how he put the "insert" in.
Good vid James good attitude to life Northern Ireland could do with a new first minister so if you would like to take a cut in your living standards i think you would be the very man all the best mate been with you from the start from the failed joiner LOL
Is it the same principle for a single pipe circuit?
Hi. I removed radiator as u demonstrated and capped it off above the floorboards but left hand side where temperature dial was is leaking at pipe just under the cap. How do I stop this. Kind regards
my radiators have soft flexible tubing that comes out of the wall, how do i cap those off?
Can i use this method with pvc pipes coming out of the wall, chisel away till find the pipe then cap it then replaster. What comprression caps or inserts are better,
Do I need to drain every radiator on a combo system to remove a radiator on the ground floor in my lounge?
Hi, i have a question, I permanently removed radiator and cut bit of copper pipe and ended them is it ok if i just leave those pipes as they are or do i need to find the circuit, what will happen now when heating on. I would send a picture of pipes to make better understanding. Thanks
hi have you got a video on taking radiator of dot and dab walls and how to cap off pipes in the wall as this is what I have and it looks like a nightmare to cap pipes.....love your videos very informative regards Kevin.
Most likey the same deal as this vid. Apart from cuting the tails as close as you can to the wall then smashing them back in the wall so you can plaster over them.
Cheers fella for answering this!
Are all heaters in parallel or series?
Quick question, is it possible that capping off like this will stop the feed to another radiator in the house, if they run in sequence, so to speak. Without knowing whether this is the case, is it OK to join the 2 pipes together rather than capping them off. Thanks.
I'm wondering the exact same thing
I wanna remove a rad while I brick up a bay window.. My boiler is the ideal 15 pressurised system.. do I just shut of the loop valves to remove and then refill by opening the loop valves ?
Ghostly orb moves across your leg at 11.48 , no really it does lol , hold tight! good job btw.
Can I ask, why didn’t you join pipes together under the floor?
Do you have to drain the water if you have plastic pipes can you cap off without draining?
Hi mate can i take 2 rads of my house permanently I got a combi system cheers
ABSERLUTLY BRILLIANT, WHAT A CHARACTER. 😁😅🤣😂👍
ONLY POINT, WHY DRAIN DOWN ALL THE SYSTEM WHEN THE RADIATOR UP STAIRS IS EMPTY AND TURNED OFF.🤔👍
Do you have a video which has instructions on the opposite of this? Adding a radiator back kn thats been capped off?
Please can you do videos on
Changing a mid position valve, pump and zone valve all on open systems
And how to drain it no drain off!
what he said
Could you share what pipe plugs you were using? Do they work for both gas and water?
No they are for water only. They will not be safe to use for gas
When you cut a square patch out of the floor, hold the cutting tool at an angle so the piece can sit on something when you replace it rather than dropping straight through. Do this on two opposing edges, no need to do all four.
Is the process the same with the pipes that come out of the wall? They have the sealed triangle on the back? I believe it's 10 mm pipe?
Bump
Hi this might be a silly question but if I cap both pipes would this not create problems for system with the water blocked halfway round the system.
that’s what I came here for. we have a new apartment with no radiator. Both sides of the pipes capped off. Does that not ruin the flow of water back to the boiler? we have loud banging non stop
I have a radiator in the kitchen that I want to remove, now where the pipes go up the wall and Into the ceiling the 2 radiator pipes have stop valves on them ,can i turn those valves off then drain the kitchen radiator then disconnect the radiator, or do I still need to turn off the boiler and empty system first...cheers
Bump
I'm about tot take the radiator in my hall off the wall, to decorate. I turned the valves off on either side. Then undid the nuts and drained it. When I topped up the boiler afterwards water came out the pipes on either side of the radiator. Why?
What is the best way to drain the system when there is no drain off valves?
keep for the old memory bank :-o :-o your good ;-)
Not worried about dead-legs? I'd have cut the pipes further back, close to the tee as poss. Other than that tiny thing, great vid, as ever
I’m a little puzzled by this video. Haven’t you cut off the flow to continue to the next radiator, or am I missing something here.
I want to know the same hunting for a 2 pipe system removal of a radiator and closing the loop
I'm no plumber, but I think radiators are plumbed so each one draws separately from a hot water loop (and discharges separately back to return loop to the boiler) so removing any one radiator should be fine. I recently removed one and didn't have a problem with other radiators.
You're missing something, the point he capped these pipes were at a point where these pipes are only feeding this single radiator. You'll find these pipes are tee'd off the flow loop and return loop further back. If you capped it there you're correct, you would then potentially cap the flow to radiators further in the system.
Top tip:
When cutting squares out of the floor hold the cutting tool at an angle away from the cut so when the piece goes back it sits in position rather than falling thru. No need to do this on all four sides, just two opposing sides.
What ppe trousers do you wear? I would never be able to sit like that in my scruffs.
Jobman mate....they're amazing!
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jobman-2812-FASTDRY-HOLSTER-water-repellent-black-work-trousers-all-sizes-/112086725382?var=&hash=item1a18e3b306:m:mdN1ez_gm2wAHxgt_4Jpiwg
Are these the ones? Are they comfortable and light weight? Wanting some new ones for the summer.
I want to remove my radiator but the pipes run directly through into the wall rather than down into the floor. Would you still use the same process for removing the radiator in this case? And how would you patch up the hole in the wall at the end. Very new to DIY and I have no clue haha, any help would be appreciated.
Bump
Now then cocker! Got me sen a bit of a problem. Removed a rad downstairs just capped it off. Problem is my rads up stairs are all nice a warm and no air locks. Downstairs stone cold but just pi## water out when I bleed them 🤔 What school boy error have I done?
Oh yeah your vids have saved me £300!! Doing work me sen 👌🏻
What about with concrete floors, also back in the day you just switched em of and remove it, refit it when done. Why does it have to be so complicated these days, guess the old wallpaper stays behind the radiator.
Hi, we have a radiator in the conservatory with pipes set in the concrete screed. A plumber is coming to remove it and cut the pipes to the floor on Friday. He told us we just fill the exposed holes with grout... is this wrong (it sounds it to me)? The radiator is at the end of a chain. The previous radiator will be re-piped. The connecting pipe will this be left in the floor (with water in it)... thanks for any advice.
plumberparts
If as you did cap both the feed water pipe to the radiator and outlet water pipe from the radiator, effectively you have cut off the water feed run to the next radiator in the loop. Am I making sense
Only on single pipe systems, most in the UK are two pipe and therefore it won't affect other radiators.
Wow!!! you should get paid for immediate response ... You have my vote when you run for next prime minister of UK. So, do you have a video capping radiator on single pipe system ... I know I am asking for much on a Sunday afternoon ... hey you got my vote
Hi I removed my radiator from the wall and now my water is running yellow/brown... can you tell me what’s happened
Random question but how long do those end caps last under constant pressure? Surely there's a more permanent solution?
But of a late reply, but you can still use brass compression caps on the plastic pipe for a more reassuringly permanent method.
My radiators have plastic pipes coming out of the wall. Can I cut them back, cap them and plaster them into the wall?
Bump
Any reason why you can't just cap off on the radiator tails, and drop them through the holes into the floow void rather than pulling the floor up?
Wouldnt this cause Legionella?
"So then cretins" that wasn't very nice! I'll be filing an official complaint with The Big G! :-)
If your disconnecting a rad why do you not have to reconnect the flow and return so it completes the chain??
andrewjakeways153 two separate pipes. The flow is a loop and the return is another loop.
At points in the loop the flow tees off and basically terminates into a radiator. The exit is basically a tee into the return. So if you cap one of those tees off it effectively becomes a lay-by where a small amount of water parks up but can’t go further.
Proper name for the lay-by is a dead leg.
Hope that’s as clear I I intended haha
Can I do this by just cutting the live pipe and popping the cap on?
I wouldn't recommend that. When you cut the pipe you will get a gallon of maybe dirty water out and mostly over you and the walls before you manage to get a cap on.
Hi, I've just moved into a new house (well new to me, not a new build). I did the usual checks on the boiler, water pressure etc... but the one thing I've discovered is that the shower has no pressure. It's a hose off the combined shower/bath taps. I've replaced the hose and rose but it's just trickling out.
What can I do to improve this?
have you got a combi boiler or a hot water cylinder?
Hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard.
Which washer do you mean? I've replaced the washers in the shower hose at both ends when I changed the hose.
Salamander pump on the hot side.
Good to see you're helping each other!
I think if you have plastic pipe like this it better to push the copper tails in to the floor space and cap them in case you want to reinstall.
the pressure of my boiler keeps dropping way below 1 bar nearly zero. what could be the reason?
zir786 expansion tank or a leak
Leak
It may have been fitted upside down
Call a plumber!! 😂
Have a look here mate: ruclips.net/video/4meZgMAUecw/видео.html That's our video on it!
How much harder is this to do if the rad is downstairs with pipes coming out of the concrete?
Ryan Hammond much!
Mike Tyson before prison hard.
Did I miss the bit about putting in the inhibitor in the system????
Yes Iain - I didn’t film it. Thanks for your comment though! 🙏
Why did you drain the whole system from the rad downstairs bellow the boiler why not drain it through the PRV to save you the time off waiting for all the downstairs rads to drain??
And what should I do if I've absolutely fallen in love with the plumber?? lol
Tell him!
Now he knows mate ;) hahaha
and what a happy drain off
Indeed!
Alright James hold tight. I was speaking with you on the live stream other day. I got a few pics I wanna share with u. I don't do Facebook lol. where can I send them to see what u think.?? cheers m8
❤❤
I'll have to get me some el passo tortillas to keep in my tool bag ")
how can I get 1 of those t shirts

Dead leg - best practice question: I have carefully chiseled out just enough of the cement floor around the two copper pipes where the old radiator used to be and have capped off the ends with compression fittings within the cement floor. As these are now "dead legs" and the central heating water can no longer loop through and circulate through these legs. what will eventually happen to them over time? Will they not eventually "rot" / corrode and cause my CH water to start leaking into the flat below? Is what I have done standard practice or do I need to trace the pipes back to the source and cap them off closer to the boiler? Can anyone offer any sound advice on this question. Don't particularly want to chop up the rest of the floor but will do whats best.
No they'll be fine, just remember to tape them up to protect from the effects of cement corrosion.
Brilliant thanks - Denso tape & gloves all the way!
Compression caps for this job, not push fit.
Why didn't you reconnect the pipe work under the floor afterwards dude . Mate
You’re like the Nigella Lawson of plumbing. Sincerely though, enjoyable vid. How often can cretins say that about a plumbing tutorial?
Shutting off a header tank is beyond a DIYer is it?? Have a word!!
Sometimes just going up in the loft is....believe me I've seen it!
Mates rates, also known as doing it for nothing 😂
So you’ve got to drain ALL RADIATORS in the entire world just to remove ONE radiator on the ground floor???
talks to fast but good
Algorithms
I wouldn't follow this video. At 8:21 when he says 'I'm just going to put the insert in' he covers up and fast forwards to placing the cap on afterwards. Show the insert going in, or delete the video mate!
😂😂😂😂
This guy is a complete joke and hasn’t got a clue on any plumbing jobs... get him off RUclips
Poloo Palwaan and onto your mum!
And onto yours toooooo
