It's funny you mention that. Just saw this RUclips interview with the director who says you know I'm surprised anyone gives me money to direct anything. 🙃
So far two major things this film has going for it, in terms of Dracula lore, is that A) he is being portrayed as very animalistic and monstrous, and B) they are really showcasing one of his signature abilities as a Vampire: The power to control the weather.
I went to see it yesterday and loved it. It was atmospheric and thrilling. I love the way they portrayed Dracula as a real hideous monster and not some good looking tortured soul. I think they should do a part 2. Would definitely go to see it.
Like a reimagining of the book story would be great, imagine like a London gripped with fear and a couple new vampires born and they have to destroy all his boxes of earth
@@hoibsh21 In which case it might also be doomed to failure cause Dracula makes it back home in the book, I really would rather the new setting be London cause its dark streets feel perfect for Dracula and it makes sense that he'd choose it for new feeding grounds or even a place to breed new vampires

Amazing actors all around, cinematography, directing, the whole lot! Give this movie a chance and get ready to walk into your dark room and feel shive- *two knocks ring out behind me* Oh shit.
The voyage of the Demeter has always been an fascinating untapped part of the novel, not least because Stoker based it on a real ghost ship that run ashore in Whitby bay.
@@jonfreeman9682 I think the fact that Dracula layed low and took people one by one is exactly because he didn't want to risk this when more of them were still capable of fighting
I havent seen makeup for Dracula look this horrifying since the Gary Oldman version back in the 90's! That wasnt a guy in a cape, it was multiple forms from a dog/werewolf/bat/man hybrid to a living bat, and this is very much in that vein (no pun intended), this Dracula only resembles something human, but is tall, imposing, inhuman looking and TERRIFYING! .. But they Netflix'd it with Billy Ocean. They used this Barlow creature before on that Netflix series where the priest turns a whole island town into vampires, which I think was better btw .
Saw it last night. Completely blown away by the production design and the style of the film. It’s like universal and hammer horror mixed. Wonderful film with great performances throughout . Old fashioned film making at its best here. One of my favourite films of the year so far.
This movie was surprisingly fantastic!!! The practical sets and creature makeup/suit definitely elevated it above typical mainstream productions. Also, great behind-the-scenes featurette!!! They don't make 'em like this anymore...
I saw this movie and I’m glad I did! My partner didn’t get it cause he was expecting typical Dracula and horror. This movie is beautiful, it sucks that nobody went to theaters to see it, I went with my girlfriend the weekend it came out & I loved it, I hope they make the sequel anyway, but if not that’s ok, it works as a standalone also

I missed the days when actors work with real fire in the lanterns in front of the screen before the the actor's union demand more pay for working with actual fire, also the studios have to pay added insurance costs for the potential/possibility of a fire hazard.
Wow, imagine wanting to be paid fairly to willingly put yourself in a situation where you could catch fire and die a horrible death in front of your colleagues? -_-
haven’t seen the movie but i’ve seen clips and they made the horrible mistake of covering over Dracula face with cgi. in this video you can actually just see the guy in the suit and it looks 100 times better than the overly cgi look he has in the clips i’ve seen. i don’t understand why they insist on doing this. live in camera will always look better than any cgi effect.

This movie was great, but also not…. The visuals were fantastic BUT the storyline was never rounded. Which is why I think it was not nearly as successful as it could have been. That's how the book goes. It's a 16 page chapter from a book published in 1892. They started that journey and they all died with the captain tied to the wheel. But they could have added more action.
