This is a quick tour of Shintaro Koi Farm in Mushigame.
He is famous for Sanke but also produces some amazing Kohaku and Showa. Shintaro Koi Farm have Koi ranging from 4 inches all the way up to 92cm. He has some amazing Koi.
We have a lot of Koi at this farm which belong to clients and are being grown over in Japan. These will be harvested in October.
A great family who I have known for 20 plus years.
Masaru Saito is still in charge but he is looking to hand down to his son Kosuke in the future. A new Koi House being built this year... maybe even a new variety in the future...

The growth is crazy how they yield that much in such a short time I tried to get those results when I had my 7000 gallon pond and even though I didn't have the clay ponds they pride for them in warmer days I used it in homemade food and saw about a 1-3 inch difference per year growth wise vs without it . Those are pretty fish nonetheless happy journeys bud

Hi mate brill vid. Just a question u said some of the mother koi arnt the prettiest of fish but they can produce enough eggs thats all that matters. Doesn't offspring take genes from both parents? So a good example of a male sanke n a less pretty female sanke wud produce a lesser sanke than two gorgeous parents. Not a dig just made me wonder what u mean?
From what I understand, and I am by far an expert on Koi breeding. It’s nothing to do with the looks of the Koi, they could be the best show winners in the world, it’s down to the amount of eggs they produce. If they produce for example, less than 400,000 eggs they are no good because the percentages are too low of getting high class Koi. Over 500,000 is good... 800,000 is perfect!
@@TimWaddington Cheers for ur response. So its all about a high number of eggs. Sounds like even two good parents can have poor offspring n high quality offspring are down to chance. Higher number of eggs higher chance of getting some good offspring from them 👍
They still have to have a good bloodline, or the correct bloodline they use. Definitely they can have poor offspring, all koi do. It’s a numbers game.

@@TimWaddington you're correct on the numbers cause genes can be there but you still need the yield odds in order to get the prize ideally the more eggs equal better odds to get the top fish of the lots ! I was stationed out in Japan and always loved going to the breeders and some would even let me help out , keep up the great material m8 💙
