I realized I never got footage of the actual test that showed the cylinder that wasn't firing. Here's a quick summary. Matt used a test light to touch each spark plug wire while the engine was running at the distributor cap and you could hear the engine start to die on power. When removing the test light from that particular plug wire it started running normal again. This worked on all but cylinder number 4 as that was the "dead miss" aka not running cylinder. Maybe we'll be able to get this on video in the future.

That 86 also had the carburetor Bonnet stamp in the insulation in the hood but came with a fuel injected plenum

For you guys trying to locate a miss. Take a squirt bottle with a non flammable liquid. Let the vehicle run for a minute then squirt the headers. The cylinders that are firing will evaporate quickly. The cylinder that is t firing will stay wet longer. Quick easy way to narrow the cylinder.
If you suspect an injector, remove the suspect injector and swap it with one of the others. If the miss follows the injector, you know it’s the injector.

Thanks for adding that Mike. I realized we didn't catch the exact procedure we used on video, so I just dropped a comment on the test we did as well. Good to hear from you and thanks for watching.

While the upper intake was off, could have checked the torque of the lower intake to head bolts. Over time the intake gasket compresses so the bolts loose their torque.

Good video Matt. Hopefully you get the list shortened by the first day of school. I had a red 86 and it’s the only car I regret selling. ( Typical comment from a fox body guy)

LOVE the young lady’s new ride, you just can’t beat a straight, clean 86. Lower it, makers Cobra wheels, tint the windows, and ride. Sometimes simple is good, it’s the smallest things that turns it from a car, into a hot ass ride… keep up the great videos, and congrats to your young lady with her hot machine…

Always good to change the cap & rotor, wires, spark plugs, you were pretty much due anyway, as far as injectors, i repair diesel injectors, they are a different animal, but
we used to ultasonic clean gas injectors, don't anymore , it's was a dying process, the 80's & 90's gas injectors had mixed results, and new gas injectors, you didn't see
failing injectors. Yes replacing injectors was the way to go, and always better to replace as a set, for best results.

I wanted to buy that car so bad. I've been looking for the perfect 86 but only found a basketcase. The only advantage for me is it's a ttop and completely rust free. Was originally porno red with grey exterior but is not Black. I named it Mr.T and will have subtle things around it as a tribute to Mr.T. I gope ot looks as good as what's in my head.

She's gonna be a senior too, but I don't think a Fox is gonna be it, budget is around $5000 and it's hard to find a decent one at that price anymore. Pull all the injectors and clean them with wd/40 ,air pressure and a 9v battery after you check how clean the fuel tank is + look for pin holes in the fuel line bend around the frame rail front passenger side . Just saying from my own experience .
