I second all the comments below; it's a masterpiece of live music. I've attended several concerts of the Pat Metheny Group, but this version still moves me. Sharing 'Travels' on RUclips is a gift to the great modern music. Thanks so much!
I'm gonna leave this comment here,so that every time someone likes I can come to listen to this masterpiece and never forget this song no matter how old it gets !!! 🇩🇪
In assoluto il mio musicista preferito. Visto dal vivo almeno una decina di volte e ogni volta sempre una sorpresa e grandi emozioni. Inimitabile grazie Pat ❤
I heard these guys in 1986 at The Fox in Atlanta, their Full Circle tour I believe. It was magical. I had a couple of his (their) albums but that just prepped me for what I heard. Him, Lyle Mays, and the whole group. Those blue sweeping spotlights and the music was something I have never forgotten.
This is definetly the best version of this song !!! I saw them at "Dortmunder Westfalenhalle" and this gig will last in my memories forever. Watch out for the live version with Anna Maria Jopek, there Pat pushes the solo to the very max and Anna does a very smooth singing intro.
Are You Going With Me will always remind me of this beautiful woman I met several years ago, we rode around in my car a few hours listening to this track and others but this was her favorite tune to listen to when we were together and although we stopped seeing each a few years later it will always remind of the first time we were together. Long live Pat Metheny and his music 👍👍❤
No, it is NOT. It's a very good tune indeed, but there are thousands of so called "most perfect ever made" ones, and even Pat and Lyle made some that are much better that this.
@@Hanika-original ~ Actually, I consider their tune "Extradition" to be the most profound tune they ever did, and to be one of the most profound pure jazz tunes ever made, but I do consider their tune "Are You Going With Me" to be the best jazz rock tune ever ,made by anyone.
@@jimyost2585 That's your problem. 😅 I've been a music editor at a radio station for over 30 years (and I'm also involved in the European jazz scene). So I see things a little differently. By the way, the world has moved on since "Offramp", even if you may not have noticed... 😄
The work of a genius. Never done by anyone before or after. This high level of music composition. Beyond expectations. Genius, nothing but genius. Enjoy.
You would like the album titled "Sargasso Sea" by John Abercrombie and Ralph Towner. It used to be on RUclips but they took it off. I'll probably end up buying the CD if I can find it. But I have to agree with you that Pat's guitar work in this tune is kind of in a league all by itself.
The ambience. The journey. After all these years, I come back. I can remember the first time heard, until this post (decades). I was so young. It took and takes me away. It makes me feel, again. Each time. And the story continues...
This is the best live album ever made honest what other band could have a live album on ecm? I think that says it all the whole album is life changing.
Je me sent chanceux d'avoir vu et entendu ce morceau depuis ces début et d"avoir pu voir le PMG plusieurs fois en live! C'est toujours un grand moment pour moi d'entendre ce titre! Well done Pat and Lyle!
I saw him several times in this era - at the Landmark in Syracuse ( i think twice), at the Chance in Poughkeepsie, the Palace in Albany - whenever hs came around. Travels was the soundtrack of college for me... In those days he'd usually open up with Phase Dance - had his guitar-synth on a stand, and he'd come out and play that 5-note intro on it. Nothing like it anywhere.

I saw the PMG play this similar rendition at an OFF RAMP 1982 show in Philly. To experience this song live was even more intense moment than this still excellent Travels live rendition!

This is the best improvised guitar solo I've ever heard in my entire life.
I believe it's Lyle Mays and Pat Metheny trading solos...😉
You’ve obviously never heard let us go into the house of the lord by John McLaughlin & Carlos Santana

and the one with the metropole orchestra
cannot agree more
Gives me chills every freaking time I listen !!!. Thanks Pat❤✌️🙏 And can't forget Lyle. RIP brother✌️🙏❤️

If I would have been living in Soest then, I DEFINITELY would have been joining you mate 👍🏻 Nice soundtrack to the Soester Börde.
I agree except the last 2, 3 minutes.. 🙋♂️

RIP Nana & Lyle, two musical geniuses who left part of their virtuosity reflected on this work❤
Loved listening to this on the Walkman back in the Nav 1984 floating around.
One of the most haunting solos of all time--astounding the phrasing that comes from Metheny's mind.
There have been so many powerful Metheny solos, but this. is. special.
This is where it started for me....
This makes me cry. It’s so beautiful.

Late night jazz show on CBC radio used to sign off with this. Amazing.
Une des plus belles introductions dans l'histoire de la musique.♥️🎶🥂
