I was always mad no one ever used him to his full potential.
I think it was shown to be too effective and every problem would have ended with him taking care of it with surgical precision.
If you look back on many episodes you'll see richard could of ended it too quick and easy.
One example, Nucky & Owen are planning Masseria's assassination while Richard is in the background washing dishes.
I know historically it wouldn't make sence but ive always thought it was funny that instead of using the battle hardened sniper, they use Owen, who is a great character also, but lets be honest, hes no soldier.
In reality he would be seen as more of a terrorist in his country, blowing up government buildings and such.

But, Harrow always had this underlying humanity to him that separated him from the rest. I liked the scene where the hobo says “These woods are for living. Understand me?” I like how there are multiple reasonable interpretations of what the hobo said, but the obvious one is “Don’t kill yourself around here.”
I think the other meaning is that these hobos have all had hard lives, and they help each other. They don’t want police snooping around making their lives harder, and they don’t want to see any more tragedy than they already have. These men just want food, shelter and friends in their little haven they’ve made for themselves.

More painful than all the shrapnel in my back and legs or the lead from their rifles, trapped in my shoulder.. The pain and turbulence a man feels when he leaves behind himself as a killer! Venturing into an unknown world of emotion, feelings, and guilt! Many ancient texts say the dead spirits attach to ours when we free them for they are tormented just like myself! The last time I felt peace was right before my soul came back into my body after a nde! I saw the other side, i felt it...it was beautifull, peaceful, magical, and serene! I fear I wont be allowed to return tho for much has taken place since then!

Hey man, from one Vet to another, I understand your pain. I have come to understand that it's not the bad that we do that keeps us from that place of peace you mentioned nor the good that we do that brings us there. It's grace man...free and undeserved to all that believe on Christ. King David was a warrior from the days of his youth. The fact that he was a man of violence kept God from allowing him to build the temple, a house of peace. That did not take away from the fact that he was called a man after God's own heart by God himself and was assured that in the life to come that he would see God. According to the Lord's prayer we must forgive to have this forgiveness and that includes forgiving ourselves sometimes. Don't hold on to things that God has taken away.

One of the most heartbreaking characters on TV ever!!!! He was such a good hearted guy who loved and lived for his family, his sister, Jimmy and Angela and then Julia and Paul and especially the love of his life Tommy!!! But he was a soldier and War absolutely fucks people up to the point they don’t even know who they are anymore, he thought he was a monster, but he wasn’t, if only they had therapy back then for those WW1 soldiers, a lot more of them would have lived fruitful lives!! RIP Richard Harrow!!!!

    • @Briselance
      @Briselance 3 года назад +1

"he thought he was a monster"
And he became one the very moment he fired the sawn-off double-barreled shotgun and the trembling early teenager. The boy was shaking from everywhere on his body. He could barely keep the revolver in his hands, let alone load and cock it.
He even raised his hands. Yet, Richard shot him dead.
That one was far what made him a monster, and he knew it.
I haven't watched any of the series.
But I think that he willingly put himself in danger when he was killed in the crossfire, between the two black mobsters. He wanted the misery, the nightmares to end.

well that is the point right. They were both ww1 survivours suffering their wounds, society viewed Harrow as a monster yet he suffered his wound fighting for them. Same situation with Jimmy. They understand the pointless war... and having the only 2 people who actually accepted Harrow; Jimmy and his wife die... just made him realise he isn't the monster.... there are even bigger monsters out there and that Jimmys son must be protected from
Ulimately he represents the underclass of the period, the men who had to suffer so we can watch the lavish rich lives of the bootlegging as the openly mock serving in ww1 as a back step. He is a brilliant character because every single one of us can understand his pain and suffering.... he lives in a society that couldnt care less that he sacrificed his face to protect them.
