The key to an amazing dunk is when someone who's considerably shorter and smaller (180-215 lbs, 6'1 - 6'7) dunks with incredible power on and through someone who's considerably taller and larger (225-315 lbs 6'9-7'3). Add context like playoffs/champioonships, rivalry's, go-ahead baskets..etc makes for incredible moments.

The regulation height of a basketball hoop is 10ft (3.048 meters). Shaq (24 foot man as you called him which he might as well have been because he was that unstoppable) is 7’1 and his weight fluctuates a bit in the different clips but the one of him in the Lakers clip (yellow jersey if you did not know) is him in his prime at a ridiculous weight of 325lbs (147.418kg). Also the average NBA player height is 6’5 which means to reach the basket they need a 24 inch vertical and to effectively dunk it they need a 30 inch vertical. If there are any other people here in these comments that aren’t well versed in the NBA reply to this comment and I’ll be more than happy to explain any of the shown clips or anything else related to the NBA.

"If I could do that, I'd be doing it all the time"
I feel that! So when I was in high school I was a great dunker (I know weird flex right?).. Anyway, I'm 30 now and haven't played basketball in almost 10 years, I'm fat and out of shape. All of my old injuries make my body feel stiff as a board every time I get off a chair, everything pops and cracks. But even to this day I sometimes have dreams at night of me throwing down a nasty dunk. There isn't any better feeling in the game of basketball. One time I dunked the ball so hard that I shattered the backboard, glass went everywhere. My first thought was "I'm the man" and then my second thought was "are there any girls watching" and then my final thought was "shit I'm gonna have to pay for this basketball hoop." These thoughts all happened within about a 5 second period of time 😂

another thing about this video is that you appreciate it more when you know who the players are. the name of the players dunking and getting dunked on. its part of the history. like Tmac dunking on Yao Ming who was over 7 foot tall

thats a nice highlight reel and all but its missing a lot of Vince Carter who is arguably one of the best "in-game" dunkers in the NBA...he was the first guy on the clip in the USA jersey when he dunked over a 7 footer Frederic Weiss of France in the Sydney Olympics.

A dunk is worth two points and a layup is worth two points- no big deal. Also, I love how they celebrate the dunk as if it is the winning shot, but you look at the scoreboard and they are losing the game.

@@hellcat1962 buddy, have you heard of a thing called momentum? Any professional athlete will tell you it means a fuckton. Yeah they count for the same, but when the entire stadium watches you shove your nuts in someone’s mouth while scoring, it’s a MASSIVE momentum swing.
Just because it shows up the same on the scoreboard doesn’t mean it has the same effect on the game. But good try trying to sound smart
