These videos have been great. A couple of channels (White Collar Advice for one) talk in general terms about the very low success rate of defence lawyers in Federal cases (cases that go to trial are very well researched by the prosecution in advance and they have huge resources), and the high fees for defence which make it seem you must be getting something amazing for your money when really there is a limit to what they actually achieve. I think film and TV make cases seem a lot closer and back and forth than they really are - usually the prosecution starts winning and continues to win

She (and the others) may have spent hours with the prosecutors but SBF and the other defence witnesses will have had a similar opportunity to prepare the defence side! To be fair, the defense really doesn't have a real defense. The evidence that this whole thing was a scam. The proof is overwhelming. U make a complaint out the prosecutors very good lawyering. Its called witness preparation! Sometimes when ur wrong ur just wrong. This the case here. All the persons seems very nice, but it what greed does to people often. Sad. But I dont see how they get out of this, because it is clear as day the lied to customers, stole their funds and lost their money. That is the crime and that is what they did!!!!

@@WizardOfAILand His lavish spending doesn’t exceed $100m. They definitely made $100m in profit from so much daily trading volume. The other $7.99 Billion was spent on investments and the market crash. Sam couldn’t help the market crash. He could help the $3Bn that he invested. That he shouldn’t have done. But that was a bad mistake, not him having a great time… Anthropic also just came off, so those investments are no longer bad, in fact profitable.

This is the crime, I don't think u or most persons commenting understand, what is the law. He used customer funds which is prohibited by the customer agreement. He then lost the money. Market crash or not. None of what u mentioned is relevant as pertains to the law or a valid defense. How is any of that a mistake. $100m dollars in not lavish spending. What world do u live in? Tell that to the persons who have lost millions to him, that he took their money and bought 100m in properties for himself!!! It's even worse that he spent these monies knowing that the companies were insolvent at the same time. I'm not against Sam but u guys sure aren't helping him. Maybe Ill post if wanted a real defense that he may have. I dont see anyone advocating for saying anything sensible in his defense.

The impression I get is these 3 knew all along they were doing things that were really bad. They were all greedy with other people's money. Sam was the greediest and none of the other 3 would have come up with something like this. But with so much money involved, they got into it also hoping they would all be rich. At first, it must have been all so exciting.
I agree, and I dont think it will be fair as I think Caroline will get a very lenient punishment, first for being a female, 2nd for cozying up to the prosecution. To those that dont agree that females get less punishment compared to males for the same crimes, check the stats.

Whomever gave Alameda money to invest was reckless,but the people who trusted their money in ftx trusted that it was in a bank so to speak. Anyone who participated in taking it out and using it , is committing criminal behavior. They have a fudiciary responsibility, in all the education they received, this should have been drilled into them.

I don’t know exactly what his parents told him. His dad appears to have been more involved in the company than his mom was but they both had a house in the Bahamas at one point that alameda apparently bought for them.
They stood near me in line to enter the courthouse last week and his mom was visibly fighting back tears while resting her head on the dad’s shoulders. Not sure if there was something specific that had happened to make her upset or if it was just general stress over the situation

How many people can fit in the viewing gallery for the trial ? I’d imagine with this large a trial all the reporters from all the networks and newspapers would fill a gallery pretty fast. I’m just wondering on the logistics | if it’s like going to the Supreme Court ~ how would you be sure to always find a seat 😊
SO:
- the big news outlets (AP, NYT, etc) have reporters who cover this courthouse specifically and so they have their own special press room where they’re allowed to have electronics which means they can actually tweet stuff out live
- the rest of us are split between the main courtroom (I think maybe 30 journalists/the public fit in there) and then there are overflow rooms where you watch the trial on screens!
Question do you use InShot it sounds like you’re having issues with your software as well I updated my iPad for the very first time and I have the same problem it likes to just shift all of the audio it’s super annoying..
Tough to be defense counsel when your client is being nailed to the wall guilty by repeated prosecution witnesses. Sam is going to jail for a long time.

Well, it seems rather easy to reconcile Caroline's apparent conflicting statement about the account money. Bankman in fact did not know that money was still going into the account, and *neither did she.* When she realized that this was still happening, she let him know that this was occurring and that they needed to resolve it. 😁
“Ambitious” is vague because it requires context. Ambitious to be recognized as a person who helped the world is different from ambitious to be a top corporate executive in control of huge funds. Sam’s public interviews show that he had to force Caroline to take the CEO job.
I love the Effective Altruism angle. This is something you interest yourself in when you have made more money than you will ever spend. Until you get to that point you’re just another bullshit artist.
If Sam is a sociopath, it’s textbook to find people who are naturally loyal and to pull their strings like puppets. Sociopaths will set you up to take the fall and skillfully minimize evidence of their directives.

Of course the prosecutor's witnesses meet with the prosecutor and are prepared by them to answer their questions. The defense is allowed to bring in their witnesses as well ...

Sam made the decision to use Customer funds. But, Caroline should have put her foot down. Not her nature to do so, complicated by her on again and off again relationship. Spare a tear for the real investors but not the big whales who invest other people's money. Big whales do no analysis or due diligence before investing.
