Hard to imagine how one tiny wire could cause all those problems. I don't think I would have the patience to try and figure it out. I have a 2003 Solara convertible and just love that car. But we paid $4000 for it, not $500. You got a really good deal.
I really liked the Solara's. But in 2008 it was my wife's turn to buy a car, she wanted to replace her Camry with another. I almost had her talked into the Solara, but the salesmen gave her the heads up that they would probably be discontinued. Still got the 08 Camry, got rid of the wife. But dang I really luv'd that red Solara.
Well I did one better I purchased a 2003 for 400 bucks. I put a head gasket on it because it was leaking antifreeze. I installed new head bolts and replace the battery replaced the tires and put a starter on it plus a window regulator. I drive this everyday. Great car.
Well if I was in the market for a Solara type car I would not hesitate buying this one from you. Watched the whole thing. You patience is admirable especially these days when everything seems to be modular replacement, ,even the car. My hat is off to you.
Thank you for the comment. It was quite the challenge, but the car turned out nice and I sold it to a close friend for his 16 year old daughter within days of being it being finished. I'm sure it will make them a great car.
I was an injured veteran now I'm starting to walk again had a Ford Van that I had the put 4 new tires on and the oil changed done then I thought i'd get the antifreeze relaced They used such high section pressure to suck out the antifreeze for so long they blew their head gaskets on the truck. So I've been stuck in the house for the last 6 months. But I found the Toyota Camry Solara. Is the car that I've been interested in buying? Because I wanted two door car I don't want to four door car. I don't need 4 doors and it seems like it's a very good car. I'd like to get to one with the V6, the SLE model I think the 2008 or 2009. I'll get one of the better years for the car, and the price is won't be that high. So that's what I plan on doing and I appreciate all of your expertise and explaining exactly what was going on? I've always been able to work on calls myself. And it seems as if it's a very reliable car even if I did get it in a convertible. I'm getting older now, I've always had high performance calls. I had GTO I had a nineteen seventy chevelle super sport With the LS6 motor I also had a nineteen seventy LT1 motion corvette No, it's for the day's getting up. It's Sunday morning change the plugs Setting the dual point distributor with the book of matches Putting an aviation fuel Go to New York national Speedway. Those were the days
My Solara is having, I think, the exact same issue. It shuts off when slowing down or stopped. Usually it will start up, run for awhile and then shut down again. The car has been at the shop many times. I’m told it’s fixed but it never is. For months it has been doing this. I guess I will wiggle some wires
I remember watching your video when you first posted it I'm glad everything worked out for you i still have my solara that i got for 300 bucks same generation as yours except mine is the v6 1mzfe engine it's been a good car so far but it's always had an issue turning back on after i shut it off. it turns back on but kinda struggles I've put a new starter in it but seems to do the same i wonder what's up with it
Hey buddy I have a Toyota just like that I mean same everything and this car been good to me,but I'm having a problem that has me puzzled my battery keep going dead the alternator is new I've been told it could be the throttle body might need cleaning so I haven't started the car in a few day so when I did I can hear air coming from around the back of the motor near the throttle body....could u please help me with what it might sounds like to u??????by the way great video
The issue is called "parasitic draw". I cannot see any way the throttle body is the issue. Most of the time it's a light that isn't going off, maybe the glovebox door, trunk light, etc.
I got a 04 solara my car turns on (dash) but doesn’t crank battery checked it’s good could it be a bad starter? I hard a small tickin noise when trying to turn it #pleasehelp #subscribed
I have a 2000 Solara with the 3.3 engine that I just had a new alternator done but their is a bleed somewhere has anyone else ever had such a problem? I also got a new battery and the alternator is still not charging up like it should.
i just bought a 2000 toyota solara and at idle theres a ticking sound in the engine and it goes away when driveing but comes back at idle can someone tell me why its doing that
Dude , that thing is F ing clean inside, I’d be willing to drop $1500 on a paint job from a Maaco on it, get a few things that’s missing from junkyard. Omg.
I have a Toyota Camry Solar 2003 . No body damage . When my mom passed away it was given to me . I drove it home and it has been parked for two years the car ran perfect when I drove it here . Since then I haven't drove it it's been parked in my driveway. It's tired are flat battery is gone. No problems if you can just answer what should I do I don't have money to put into it. Some money but not really ???
I’m in PA, but I’d like to talk to you about buying it. I bought an 02 for my grandson a little over 2 years ago, and we love it. How can I contact you email-wise? I don’t do Facebook or Instagram or any of that other stuff. Thanks!

Thanks. It really had me stumped for a while. I was just about to set fire to it, lol.
Glad to see a Toyota back on the road!
Still running strong from what I hear.

Like most Toyota vehicles, the Solar is hard to beat.

Maybe a timing issue? Look for issues related to "Hot Start" on the Google machine. That should point you in the right direction.

Most likely it's the starter

I've seen brand new alternators cause a current draw. May double check it. It's really hard to find "new" parts that actually work.
What year and engine is your solara, any rust? How much are you selling it for.
It sold shortly after this video was made, just about a year ago.
i just bought a 2000 toyota solara and at idle theres a ticking sound in the engine and it goes away when driveing but comes back at idle can someone tell me why its doing that
I would start by verifying oil pressure at idle.

Yeah, it was a nice car. Sold it to a buddy for his daughter.

Turned out to be a single chaffed ground wire. Fixed it a long time ago. Been great since then.
I need your advice .
Okay, whatcha got?

Pretty much - Pinched/chaffed wire.
